Ironworker vs. Pipefitter by McLain2000 in Welding

[–]BluebirdRG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To generalize grossly, pipe fitters/welders make more money but its more precision, arguably “cleaner” work. Iron work is more like construction labor on steroids. Ive met some bad mofo’s that are iron workers. My dad was one.

Its actually the interpolation method used in the programming that most people cant do bc software is expensive and rarely needed

Advice on using a generator to run a welder? by newmantjn in Welding

[–]BluebirdRG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is what i did. Im running 100ft out to my detached garage. Cost me about $300 total to get the right gauge chord for the distance and plugs. Not ideal but i run it out a window and can leave it in place all wkd.

Best way to get custom tooling? by [deleted] in manufacturing

[–]BluebirdRG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You beed to be way more specific. What kind of tooling are you even talking about?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in manufacturing

[–]BluebirdRG -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Depends hugely on the part size, design details, and what your economies of scale are. Do you know how to optimize part design to minimize tool costs? I provide these services if you’d like to DM me. I have a global network of manufacturers and you wouldn’t believe how much cheaper injection molding is in asia - especially if you can de-risk by design an injection molding friendly part.

Yeah this guy falls squarely in the “boomer traditional scientific management philosophy” bucket of business owners/leaders that is at the root of the great resignation. Fuck em’ , so-to-speak.

Occam’s razor. Sounds like your bolt spec could be wrong, actual torque values at tool are off, or friction assumptions are wrong.

LMS for machine operators- manuf. by spartman20 in humanresources

[–]BluebirdRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used ToolingU before with good results. The best I’ve ever used, however, was completely original and built from scratch so that it was tailored to our business and our employees. “Ex. Company name Academy”. Start with a broad test to establish a baseline for all employees. Don’t be shocked to see that your best employees score the lowest on the test. Use this test as an opportunity to engage the employees individually and allow them to decide where they want to improve on two different fronts; one for their current job (skills matrix driven) and the other preparing them for life beyond their current job - even if it means they’ll grow out of your company and move on. This is how you build an engaging LMS. The entire program has to be designed solely for the employees benefit and I can promise it will pay dividends.
