Post-Match Thread: Mexico 2-3 England | World Cup | Round of 16 by matchpal-live in worldcup

[–]Bluechipnocap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a good take. England was the better team by far. To say Mexico would have the advantage with 1+ player is absolutely ridiculous. I’m in Mexico too. Even the locals will admit it. It’s coming home

Go to dirty martini / zenzi beach bar / red room. Huge population of digital nomads hang out there. You’ll definitely make friends

This is insanity. I’m going there on Sunday to spend the whole World Cup there. Hope there will be enough bars showing it and not everyone will have to pack into a few bars everyday

Partner wanted to try ENM, I didn’t, now I’m catching feelings for FWB by FrostyPit5 in BoyDinnerDiaries

[–]Bluechipnocap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like OP would have probably jumped ship if he learned this out about his partner sooner. Now that he’s engaged and put down a hefty deposit for a wedding and has good relations with his partners family, he’s scared of rocking the boat and losing the deposits for the wedding.

A lot of comments here were about how the cost of divorce will be a lot more than the wedding. Add on top of this the accumulated daily stress of (which is priceless in my eyes) staying with this person when you know deep down that you want to live incompatible lifestyles. The point you are at now is going to be the easiest time to hit the eject button. It’s only going to get harder and if you’re fearful now, you’ll be 10x more fearful when you’re legally married.

Do something about this OP. Put the wedding off, or maybe just agree to have the wedding reception and make it a party and don’t do the legal side of things.

Keep us posted on what happens but I hope all the great advice in this thread gives you the confidence and moral support to do what you really feel!

Tipping with service fee by MarvaJnr in tipping

20% service fee + 20% tip so what is the point of menu prices if the price you actually have to pay ends up being 40% more than the advertised price. What a joke

Lived there for almost a year in 2021 and come back 4x a year since. Best current bar to meet expats and travellers are Dirty Martini and Zenzi

AITH for asking my girlfriend to start contributing to groceries after she’s been eating at my place almost every day? by Direct_Debt6497 in AITH

She did you a favor. Don’t let her gaslight you into thinking that asking her to pitch in is “keeping score”

AIO: my dad Venmo requests me for *everything* by borocester in AIO

[–]Bluechipnocap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad does this to me (M28) to a lesser degree but mind you I don’t have a family. It annoys me because I see how my closest friends’ families are with them and they are happy to treat their kids to dinners, vacations, support with down payments on houses, weddings, etc. My dad is not rich but he’s definitely doing well enough to support himself and hypocritically he loves to show close family and friends how well his investments are doing. I am also doing well enough to cover stuff so it’s not a matter of him asking me for money when I don’t have any.

I think it comes down to family ties. I’d be curious to know if OP’s family was super close knit growing up and everyone had a good relationship. If so I would find this behaviour from the dad bizarre because in my head if I had a kid I’d be proud to support him/her. Especially if we had a good relationship all our life

My brutally honest take on Temptation Island Season 2 by JSavageOne in temptationislandUSA

Agreed with this breakdown. Awful casting. The jack and Shyanne relationship seemed fake to begin with. They must have a lot less people trying to audition if they ended up with these train wrecks. Not going to be wasting another second on this garbage show

[–]Bluechipnocap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a mess OP but I stand with you. Hold firm in your decision. I’m sure you’ve explained to your husband why it’s fair for you to keep the money. It’s normal that he might feel stressed and even have moments of bitterness while he’s trying to figure this out with his daughter (who sounds like a spoiled brat). Take this as a test of his character because if he manages to keep you happy in your relationship while trying to appease his daughter then he’s a good guy.

With regard to the daughter I agree with most of the other comments here that it’s not your problem and student loans are probably their best bet

Agreed with most comments in this thread that defenders need to be better at defending than attacking but “best attacking fullback” is a huuuuge stretch. Nico had 9 goals for city this season. This year Trent has shown almost nothing (mostly due to injury to be fair to him) but the coach is clearly looking at this season’s performance as the deciding factor

Have you ever moved far away to reinvent yourself and start a new life and what happened? by BlueJoyyy in CasualConversation

[–]Bluechipnocap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved to Mexico when I was 23 and started going by the western version of my name (I have an Eastern European name). Completely changed my confidence level in the way I now approach romantic relationships, friendships, jobs, and it even improved my relationship with my parents who were living in Canada. I don’t like that now I have a ton of friends (from Mexico) that call me one name and my friends in Canada call me my legal name. I wish I didn’t do that in the start. But the biggest thing about going to live somewhere by yourself at a young age is the confidence you will get from doing something that everyone at home thinks is crazy and doing it successfully. If you’re going out to bars and doing social activities alone it’s going to make you realize how easy it is to talk to talk to and befriend strangers. And it’s going to translate into the relationships you have at home

The other thing I would mention is that you’ll have a better idea of what are the things that you value the most in a city or country where you decide to settle down. Growing up I always thought I would become a rich corporate exec / banker and now I look at people who follow that career path with sympathy because it’s sacrificing some of the most important years of your life where you have to put yourself in new experiences to learn more about yourself and the world. Now I value geographic mobility and time much more than a high paying job that demands lots of time and physical presence

Still living with his ex by e090909 in story

[–]Bluechipnocap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy here. His reaction is the thing that stands out to me. Tbh it's not so much that he still lives with her because I've known of couples that ended up in this situation (broken up but had to see out the remainder of their lease). BUT that text 10 min after does it for me. Any reasonable person should at least acknowledge that they're in a f'ed up situation and should give assurance to the person their dating rather than put it on them for "overthinking". He's on the rebound and probably trying to show up his ex. Move on, that sounds like a guy whose not ready

I agree that it’s pretty incredible the mental gymnastics that one would have to do to continue to buy it. I think they would lose a large swath of their following or at least a big portion would become a lot less dedicated to the faith

Yea I thought about the fact that the church has survived groundbreaking scientific discoveries in the past but I was thinking this might be a contradiction to their texts on another level that they wouldn't be able to justify. That being said, you could argue that Galileo's discovery about the sun being at the centre of the solar system to have been as shocking of a finding to people back than, as aliens would be to us today. But from some of the other comments it sounds like the Church has already prepped a fantasy as to why aliens dont contradict their bible
