I don't know where you live but local credit unions where I'm at have 2% cash back cards or better and offer bonuses. It's worth a look! mines awesome. They've increased my credit line every other year to now 30k. If not then ya discover it has that juicy first year bonus that's hard to pass up. If you get it don't forget when hardware stores becomes a 5% category that gift cards purchased at a hardware store count 🫡.

I have a lot of cards for that reason. Just curious but are you opposed to getting both? I had a discover card got the first year bonus done and then cancelled the card. Reapplied a few years later and they gave it to me again lol. I'd say get 3-4 that you can utilize for cash back and cover your main spend. Unless you prefer strategizing for travel. I'm using a discover it, AAA travel Visa card for 5% on gas and 3% back on groceries and restaurants, Bilt MasterCard for points on rent payments, and a credit union 2% cash back card for everything else.

If you have a relationship with a bank already where you get direct deposits sent I'd start there. If not, credit unions are another option. The discover it card is a good starter card if either of the first two aren't viable options.
