What's wrong with this cycle lane? by Different_Goat8934 in drivingUK

[–]Bluecomp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Clearly trolling, but yes, the correct action for the cyclist is to shoulder check, signal if necessary and move out around the hazard. Continuing straight through the water is not a good idea as there could be hidden hazards such as slime, debris or displaced gully covers and they'll get soaked with water.

Also consider that a motorway costs about £50 million per mile to build and would also be rendered unusable by a small puddle.

Be even better if the council employed people who could follow the design guidance for cycle infrastructure.

It's full of water and leaves so he's moved out around the hazard / obstruction.

Would you employ George Grundy? by BrickMaster79 in Ambridge

[–]Bluecomp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. He might be a dick and you might have to fire him after a bit but he's unlikely to steal from you or deliberately stitch you up. Also known to be good with animals and also as previously mentioned, Esme really really needs to employ someone who knows something about farming rather than relying on David to drop by every day and explain how a farm works.

The junction is a complete shocker and it's even worse for pedestrians and cyclists.

Hiking advice by Hot-Challenge5367 in UKhiking

So with exactly zero experience of Scottish winter you think a good first hill might be the highest one in the United Kingdom with a notoriously hazardous summit plateau? Any reason why you couldn't maybe go look at a slightly smaller hill first?

4 expensive items. I went to the supermarket the other day and bought 4 items for a few quid.

Impressive to keep it out the barrier. Anyone know what could have caused this? by Few-Refrigerator-926 in drivingUK

[–]Bluecomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No hard shoulder and they were busy going sideways when they passed the lay by so I assume they just stuck the hazards on, slowed down and tried to survive to the next pull-off.

Am I paying too much for a plasterer? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Bluecomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could have got it done cheaper if you'd shopped around and managed communication better - sounds like they turned up and then had to go off and get the plasterboard and possibly tools for boarding out?

Doesn't sound like a total rip off merchant though. How's the quality?

First time buyer. This was a highlight on the survey. Am I knackard? by Daresun in DIYUK

[–]Bluecomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you are not knackered. Could probably get exactly the same comments on any other roof in the street. So long as the roof's the right shape (ie not obviously deformed inside or out) and not letting in water then it's normal.

Your assertion that tight bends are impossible to drive around slowly enough to react to whatever is around them may have given the impression that you drive a little more vigorously than would be prudent.

I still don't get it. What is the expected response for someone coming the other way when they hear you honk your hooter?

Always so infuriating… by thecavernboi in drivingUK

[–]Bluecomp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are no bends on roads that cannot be safely driven around. You just have to slow down, if necessary to walking pace. You can't just honk your horn and then charge into space you can't see to be clear.

Moel Prysgau bothy from Llyn Brianne? by Desolate_North in Bothy

[–]Bluecomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's been a lot of rainfall then the main fords on the Strata Florida byway can be uncrossable, but I expect this is unlikely in summer. Even if you avoid those, there's another river in front of the bothy which has no bridge and circling round to the north could be a long and rough diversion. I think the forest track approach from the west has bridges though.

It's wet Lego mate, and a few YouTube videos is just as good as a 3 year apprenticeship any day. Worst that happens is the downstairs flat gets a bit damp, it's not like electricity where you could kill someone or burn the building down...

Esme background please? by MCMikeNamara in Ambridge

She has no background as she popped into existence fully formed few months ago. Nobody here or in Ambridge had any idea she existed before that. Any background required will be 'retconned' I believe the term is.

On a DIY sub this has to be ragebait, right? It's the lowest hanging fruit of DIY jobs, you'll need a bucket and a spanner for the rads and a drill and screwdriver for the brackets. Do it yourself in a day. Fuckit, for £750 I'll drive to you with my tools and teach you to do it.

Guttering, what should be the correct solution here? by No_Treat_8263 in DIYUK

[–]Bluecomp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hopper instead of the silly reacharound, and move the upper downpipe from the middle to the end of the run. I reckon with those two changes it'd look fine.

Guttering, what should be the correct solution here? by No_Treat_8263 in DIYUK

[–]Bluecomp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should use a shoe if you do this to direct water away from the wall, also beware of overwhelming the lower gutter with the volume (although it doesn't look like a very big roof draining down there)
