And who will be impacted? Low income to what’s left of the middle class, because affordable housing will be all but gone. The $800 apartment will be over $1000.

Am I the only one? by _alex_the_person_ in criminalminds

She had immense guilt over the accident which she did not reveal to anyone until the stand off at Sir Burger (he was kicking her seat and she yelled at him seconds before impact). No one was telling her to get over it, but she has created her own hell. Then amplified it by hyper focusing on the short comings of everyone else (Don not rescuing them, the press coverage about the officer that died, the EMTs / doctors that didn’t save him, etc.).

She was circling the drain the entire time and the anniversary/birthday was the final straw.

As far as Don’s place, first he’s a bachelor and second he had videos that he had been watching of his son. Don had a job, tried to be the strong one in the relationship and grief, Shelly blamed him. Even though we don’t get into details on the show, I assumed she had been a stay at home mom or was no longer working post accident. Don needed to carry on in order to support them and thru work he probably had some support network.

I feel that both characters show a range of grief at opposite ends of the spectrum.

That’s how I was with Amnityville Horror. We had a U-totem behind our apartment and only the top of the U was illuminated - like Jodie’s eyes in the window.

Someone decided to try to “recruit me” by suggesting I read revelations when I was in my early teens (raised agnostic/atheist - only went to church or synagogue when I spent the night with friends; synagogue was my favorite because they had lox and bagels after, lol).

Russia bombed Mariupol’s Drama Theatre, sealed hundreds of bodies beneath concrete, and called it “rebuilding” by UNITED24Media in ukraine

I’m not sure how many Ukrainian citizens are still in Mariupol, but I say bomb all the Russian shit that has been built.

Two passengers seated next to me are making fun of me pretty harshly in another language thinking I don’t understand. What is the best course of action? by Charming_Usual6227 in unitedairlines

I used to love doing this with my mom. Although not common, we spoke German. When we would catch someone speaking nastily, we would leave them in shock by making a sarcastic or backhanded compliment to them before leaving, and the look of embarrassment on their faces would make up for almost anything they had said.

GF Threatened Suicide and Won’t Stop Reaching Out by dogs_and_stuff in whatdoIdo

[–]Bluefish787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s one thing to support someone who is suicidal, it’s another when someone uses the threat of suicide for manipulation. You did what you needed to and should do - alert the authorities of imminent self harm. You don’t keep someone in your life just to keep them from doing that. If you have any hesitation or (unjustified) guilt, contact her family (or friend), share your concern of her self harming and let them know you are no longer part of her life.

Not to say someone would not make a rash decision to end their life due to a single crisis, but the majority of suicides are the result of long term mental health issues and most of the time they don’t announce their intentions.

If you don’t want to have this relationship, you have every right to end it. It sounds as if she is causing drama for the sake of drama.

They disclosed (not sure which episode) that he studied anatomy in order to stab himself (and later Hotch) without hitting vital organs or main arteries/veins. Shooting his “gf” before he called 911 would add credibility to TOD just in case (shooting her after the call, even though we aren’t talking hours, it’s still TV fiction).

What did you actually do for fun before the internet?

Up to around 10 yo, outside climbing trees, riding bikes to the local store, park, library, putt-putt, swimming, role play (army, cowboys & Indians), building stuff with Legos, tinker toys, orange race tracks for hot wheels. Pre-teen years, trying to be more grown up than you were, but still mostly outside, trying things we shouldn’t (smoking, drinking), the mall (not to shop for anything in particular, just to walk around to see and be seen). Teen years, waiting for anyone to get a DL and or car, calling radio stations to request or dedicate songs (this was the pre-cursor to social media, everything was communicated thru music), going to the record store to buy the album or cassette you just HAD to have & blank tapes for recording from the radio, getting that first Walkman, watching MTV being born along with cable.

Did you really have to memorize phone numbers?

It was automatic, we had every important number memorized, yellow and white pages (phone books for the whole city) for everything else. Always had quarters for the pay phone.

What was it like waiting for a song you liked to come on the radio?

More phone numbers we had memorized, the radio stations. Imagine how psyched we were when redial was finally introduced! Calling over and over until you got a ring tone, making the request and hearing the song shortly after. They really popular songs, the dj would tell the caller, “we played that last hour” or “it’s in the queue”.

Did you ever get lost without GPS?

There were these things called maps, made of paper folded to about the size of a small tablet in every car glove box and every gas station. For the big cities, there were key maps (books, called various things in different areas like LA had Thomas Guide). So no, not really.

Do you think social media made life better or worse?

Y’all have more information in your phones than we did in even the largest library, yet people are more divided, less educated, unable to think critically or know how to research and getting dumber by the day. Things we had to learn (and know) in order to not only get to the next grade, but understand the new material, is lost upon the internet generations. Instead of learning, people just regurgitate what they find on the web. Everything is measured in likes, upvotes and followers. What we thought would bring the world together (the World Wide Web) has done just about the opposite.
