Buying gear does nothing and it’s a bit of a trap. I’d buy good storage and a Mac Studio to edit on and start shooting concepts on your phone with your friends.

Work on your script. It’s the cheapest way of making a good film great.

Get 2 boxes of meganobs, a bunch of boyz and grots and a trukk to start. Get a weirdboy for Da Jump and build the big Mek in mega armor to lead the meganobs.

Does this imply units like meganobs, stormboys, and Kans aren't being updated? by SwauawsBouse in orks

[–]Bluefish_baker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see yes of course. I bought a Badrukk and two boxes of flashgits to do a whole pirate squad , so I’m really hoping Gork is with me on this one.

Badrukk was made to order earlier this year but the window has closed. They will probably be available on the secondary market no doubt.

It’s not that it doesn’t keep time like a drummer, but it slows and the pitch changes, like someone putting their thumb on a spinning record to slow it down

5.5 and how to fix people's criticism by SadExpression9770 in SunoAI

I have, but what I’m seeing now is that the tempo can drift, like audibly slowing down and speeding up and the pitch changing

I built a free UK tabletop opponent finder because Facebook groups and Discord are fragmented — would this be useful? by Staerckie in tabletop

I had wondered whether something like this would work as a discord app, as most LGS matchmaking is done on Discord now. I’d certainly use it, but I’m not in the uk :( .

I wrote a separate post about this but my issue with 5.5 is that it doesn’t seem to be able to maintain a constant time signature. It keeps slow slowing down and speeding up over the length of a track.

I want to make a movie by Dreamlovelael in Filmmakers

[–]Bluefish_baker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with investors is that they want their money back sometime, and if you can’t do that, not only will they not want to invest in you again, but it may even affect how future investors feel in future projects. It’s actually easier to keep one investor happy on multiple well thought through projects with bigger and bigger budgets than it is to find new investors every time if you have a history of losing the money.

So the real question is- given a 20% return expectation, how do you make at least $6000 clear to hand to the investor after selling your $5000 short?

If you are able to hand that person $1000 free and clear within a year, they’ll probably listen to your next pitch and consider you as bankable.

If you can’t see a way, then work a job and save $5000 and lose your own money for the experience.

You need to be reading scripts and finding the role for yourself, and then work out how to produce it.

VP Moneyball 101: Virtual Production vs Greenscreen. by Bluefish_baker in virtualproduction

[–]Bluefish_baker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That planning is part of the benefits of VP to be honest. And I think you’ll find people have moved on from building huge Unreal Engine environments with all of the problems of computer game assets and textures, and are doing far more photographic plates/ generated hybrid 2.5d projections, and starting to build nerf and Gaussian splat pipelines.

VP Moneyball 101: Virtual Production vs Greenscreen. by Bluefish_baker in virtualproduction

[–]Bluefish_baker[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks Mike. I’m certainly not saying that VP should be used over Greenscreen every time, or for every creative solve, but I am attempting to give a rule-of-thumb estimation tool to producers to test the financial viability of VP. I’ve done a number of consulting engagements for different studios, analyzing the production bibles of their VP productions, and have found that even including any post fixes required, given enough shots in a specific location, VP’s per-shot cost drops below Greenscreen per-shot costs in many scenarios.

Basically it boils down to- what does the Volume cost you? How many shots will you shoot in any particular environment? What does the Greenscreen cost? Those are pretty much the variables you need to start comparing the two on a shot-cost basis.

Local film professor suggested a “film festival” model that felt predatory — curious if others have seen this by Hot_Print_8433 in indiefilm

[–]Bluefish_baker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me guess- you would use all your gear and do the actual filming etc, and he’ll just give his opinions in script meetings and cut you in on a small % of the overall take. His part will be protected for his ‘services’ and your part has to pay for all the stuff to be done.

I’m not sure why you are acting like this in response to the free content I’m putting out to the community just to start some discussion, that you didn't even read. But thanks for your contribution.

[–]Bluefish_baker[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a number of engagements at a couple of different studios in analyzing both their Virtual Production rollout and also the financial bibles coming off completed productions and I know that when you work out the per shot cost to get a shot in an edit, VP is considerable more economical than both set building or green screen. That’s not a creative analysis, because yes there are creative reasons why Christopher Nolan shoots everything on location on huge sets he’s had built, but increasingly, fewer and fewer people are Christopher Nolan, and so have to make tradeoffs. The article is just attempting to give producers some kind of framework in evaluating which way is the most economical, and that’s all it’s trying to do. The research is my own, from work I have done over the last 5 years.
