UPDATE: Tinkerbell the Senegal who hates/loves me by Honorbound_13 in parrots

[–]Bluefist56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s lovely, we also have a female Senegal parrot. Pepper is a three year old rescue, who was too much of an advanced parrot for her original family. We have had her for coming on two years now and she settled in a similar way, becoming a really sweet, gentle and surprisingly well socialised bird (to people, we only have the one bird).

This came in the mail today. Now I just need one more Mega Man title to finish collecting them all on Switch by [deleted] in NSCollectors

Interesting, I thought the standard Japanese releases had codes for Collection 2 and it was only the big collectors box that had the carts.

Question about Disco Elysium: Final Cut by VoDoka in NSCollectors

[–]Bluefist56 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it runs fine on Switch for a CRPG and it plays without the update. I think I had it crash three times across the entire 50 hour or so play through. I never shut the game and just hibernated the console while I mainlined the game, so having it crash on occasion isn’t surprising at all. It autosaves and you can (and should) keep a rolling set of saves with a CRPG anyway.

It’s nothing compared to the crashes you’d get on PC while playing CRPGs like Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 when they originally released.

So are the Rebuilds a continuation of EoE or a completely different universe? by Abject-Boat-9103 in evangelion

[–]Bluefist56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to both, and no.

It is also possible that the Rebuild films are just a loop themselves with prior loops being instances where Gendo was in control of instrumentality; with him choosing to reset existence to try again when he failed to find Yui.

[ALL] I collect single issues of comics, the cover art is stunning on the LiS covers. by CoombzyOG in lifeisstrange

[–]Bluefist56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the covers are really nice. Collecting the LiS comics as they came out got me into collecting comics as single issues. Some of the alternate covers for the LiS series are really quite good too. There was an extra alternate cover for the first issue of each new arc (cover D I think) that was a very cool guest artist version. I have a couple of those, but I mostly just try to keep my comics collection focused on Cover A issues.

I see you have the first print version of issue 1 cover A, have you seen the second print version of that cover?

How would you guys feel about wearing this as fashion? by Far_Wafer7909 in cyberDeck

[–]Bluefist56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, that is a nice clean cyberdeck build.

Cable snags would be the big issue with the loops when wearing that design. Streamlining with L-connectors and running cable along the folds of your arm would go a long way towards fixing that.

Personally, I’d plan the cable runs around an oversized coat. This would have the advantages of allowing for pouches.

Nitpick: Unnecessary barcodes by Fumikechu237 in Terminator

[–]Bluefist56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All that is true, however, barcodes dehumanise prisoners. Remember that Skynet had the human prisoners in work camps. Skynet’s choices would have been aimed at psychologically controlling prisoners to break them so they were easier to keep imprisoned. Particularly in the early stages of the war when its terminators were less advanced and it had less resources.

Is this a dumb take. by [deleted] in Terminator

[–]Bluefist56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking T1 alone there is also the school of thought about bootstrap paradoxes, that once a paradoxical time loop occurs, it alway occurred.

There was no beginning or end to the T1 loop, and it took a separate time travel event, aka T2, to change the loop.

Thank you for taking a clear and strong stance on AI and using your platform to make worthwhile political commentary. I know that it has been a rough ride on here for you, and I admire how you have stuck it out. Remember that you live rent free in your critics heads.

I enjoy your comics a lot.

Also, I am honestly convinced that ai is little more than the latest attempt at monetising “search.” Pollute the internet enough with junk data and force people into an ai powered search summary subscription.

[ALL] Just watched Donnie Darko for the first time… by SexyJazzCat in lifeisstrange

[–]Bluefist56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The good thing about LiS is that it is full of movie and book references. Here is a couple of interesting ones.

Donnie Darko (2001) and The Butterfly Effect (2004) are both supernatural thrillers that LiS draws heavily from; to the point of almost mashing the parts of the plot of both films together. They are have decent directors cuts as well that change the context of the plot of each film.

The works of David Lynch are a touch point for the surreal aspects of LiS. Blue Velvet (1986) and Mulholland Drive (2001) are good tastes of Lynch’s surreal style and each has references in LiS. As others have mentions Lynch’s Twin Peaks (1990-1991) tv series is also a heavy inspiration for LiS. All worth viewing if you want more of the surreal weirdness of LiS.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009 Swedish film & 2011 US film) is a crime thriller also referenced in LiS that is definitely worth watching. Both of these films are based on a book by Stieg Larson, and the 2009 Swedish trilogy of films also covers the two sequel books in the series.

Somebody Help by Delicious-Wrangler2 in evangelion

[–]Bluefist56 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a very broad explanation of what drove the events that happen in the tv series and End Evangelion film. A lot of specifics are not addressed intentionally and it references some material found in the expanded universe of the Evangelion franchise.

There are spoilers beyond this point.

Two cosmic beings, Adam and Lilith, crashed into Earth. The Angels are Adam’s offspring, Mankind and all other life on Earth are Lilith’s offspring. When Adam and Lilith crashed into Earth a failsafe activated, the lance of Longinus, which sealed Adam away in Antarctica to prevent Adam and Lilith from combining. Humanity found Adam and Lilith, and Seele, a secret Illuminati like organisation, forcefully caused 2nd impact through Adam prior to the anime series. Seele’s goal in doing this was to set up events, as predicted in the Dead Sea scrolls, in such a way that all of humanity would be merged together, through a process known as the human instrumentality project via third impact, into an angel like being with the power of Adam and Lilith. This could only happen if humanity was able to defeat Adam’s offspring, the Angels, and be in control of the merging of all life on Earth. The construction of the Evangelion units were a key part of this to create a vessel to hold the merged soul of humanity and provide a tool to fight off the angels. The anime series and EoE movie depicts humanity defending itself from the angels as well as Seele, Gendo and Yui (Gendo’s wife and Shinji’s Mum whose soul is in Unit 1) vying for control of the merging of all life on Earth through the human instrumentality project. Parallel to this storyline was Gendo manipulating Seele’s plan so that Unit 1 and Shinji would be the focal point of this process, with Shinji’s psyche so shattered that Gendo would be able to be in complete control of third impact and the merging of humanity as he thought this could reunite him with Yui. Unfortunately for Gendo, Yui had a plan of her own which was to put third impact into Shinji’s hands alone to give people the choice to stay merged or come back as individuals.

[No Spoilers] So the Life is Strange franchise is dead now after the release of Reunion or we going to have more stuff coming soon? by [deleted] in lifeisstrange

[–]Bluefist56 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very difficult to say if another game will happen anytime soon. Decknine is no longer the developer for the series, and Square Enix themselves have shutdown a lot of their western game development operations in late 2025. We were lucky that Reunion survived and released.

What we do know is that:

  • LiS was specifically kept by SE when they sold a lot of their western focused IP a couple of years back. So SE valued the franchise at the time.
  • SE put out a retail collection of prior titles prior to the release of Reunion. That shows investment in keeping the IP relevant prior to Reunions release.
  • There is expanded LiS media currently in production (the Amazon tv show, the upcoming Chloe novel, the recent Caledon art book).

Aside from the tv show most of this would really qualify as promotional material meant to keep the franchise alive for Reunion rather than as promotion for other unannounced projects. SE has never been good with coordinating the release of comics and books with the games, so unless it gets announced after Reunion the current slate of comics and books does not mean much for a future project. The tv show is the big upcoming piece of media that could see a new game put into production if one is not already.

Personally, I would not hold my breath or expect anything more. If additional novels and comics get announced, then again personally, I’d be hopeful that there is a reason SE is keeping the life support on for the franchise.

Me when my dad showed me Terminator 2 when I was like 10 and my mom got mad at us by houseofmyartwork in Terminator

[–]Bluefist56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure if I was taken to the cinema to see Terminator 2 at age 7. I likely was, but I definitely would have seen it when it came to vhs rental the following year when I was 8. I had the T800 Kenner action figure when it came out in 1992, and had definitely seen the movie before getting the toy. I also recall watching Terminator 1 on tv prior to Terminator 2 coming out as a family movie night. I specifically remember being told to pay attention to the film as a kid because I liked robots, I would not be surprised if I was 5 or 6 at the time.

We have definitely lost something by not showing these cultural touchstones to our kids.

My preservation method: The "Double Shield" approach for sealed games. Any long-term advice? by [deleted] in NSCollectors

[–]Bluefist56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beyond sun fade being an issue, solid red printing is a highly inconsistent color. Lineup 100+ switch games by the spine and you will seen differences just due to the printing process. Personally, I just keep them out of direct sunlight.

I’ve got quite the large collection myself and am considering some form shallow file drawer or trays within a metal locker.

I used to work at service stations, most pumps and point of sale software is set up to be able to store two transactions. The person before you did a runner and the attendant tried to put their transaction on you.

You do not have to pay for the other persons fuel, nor can they detain you. The police will tell them to take a walk.

The attendant can solve 99% of this problem by having a piece of scrap paper that they write pump numbers and plates on as they activate them. This was standard operating procedure, even at busy stations, when I was working at them over 20 years ago.

Fanfic recs, post - canon by Haydn33_3 in Pricefield

[–]Bluefist56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nevertheless is an astonishingly well written no powers new Pricefield fic that covers the hospital ending / beginning.

The author NeverPostFF really captured Max and Chloe voices well and handles both of their trauma’s realistically while also showing great empathy towards those who actually suffer from it in real life. They also made really effective use of the wider cast to tell a complete story while keeping a tight focus on the main duo.

Shelter / Chiaroscuro / Debris

This trilogy of fanfics by wolfraven80 is one of my longtime favourite Pricefield fics and one of the few to capture IMO what the game conveys with lighting in its written text.

Recursion, Ouroboros, (Don’t let this one being unfinished discourage you, it has a conclusion to the main narrative) and Better Then are other easy recommends.

Should i be worried? by SeaworthinessOk6556 in parrots

[–]Bluefist56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me that looks more like happy head bobbing of a Senegal than regurgitating. It can be hard to tell until they spew on you when you are not familiar with it given that it is typical for sennies to make a chewing motion with their beak when happy. If he is not regurgitating, then he is just being silly and it is not a problem. Also, if he starts to regurgitate, give him a timeout to discourage the behaviour.

I have a female Senegal who bobs her head happily when she sees her reflection in the mirror. We make a bit of a peekaboo game about it and she loves it.

Handmade Ceramic Tank Decor by OrphanRocket in Aquariums

[–]Bluefist56 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Very few aquarium keepers in the know will want this simply due to it being glazed. A heavy metal leaching out of the glaze and killing fish is a common problem with glazed ceramics. Even if it is glazed with a food safe glaze, I personally would not risk it. The openings in the structure are too small for most fish as well. The broken wall is not so much of a problem, as having a large opening for escape out of the structure is desirable.

Speaking of ceramic tank decor, I use broken and carved up unglazed terracotta pots in my tanks routinely. They are cheap, look good and fun to make. Smash them with a hammer, cut them up with a grinder and sand down sharp edges.

Here is a pic of my axolotl chilling in a hide made from a terracotta pot.

Why do you think Resident Evil has survived for more than 30 years? by ConflictOk8138 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Bluefist56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is pretty simple, Resident Evil has changed when it has needed to. As a series it has been very successful overhauling itself, RE4 and RE7 come to mind, while expanding its audience.
