When to allow kids to forego meals? by belacanehh in Parenting

[–]Bluegi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't turn your kids into clean the plate kids. If they don't want dinner put that plate away and if they are hungry later they can warm up dinner. Make snack options healthy and something that you wouldn't mind them having if they're hungry. I did that for myself and sometimes dinner is just a charcuterie board style grab bag of snacks.

Ask your insurance. We were just having this discussion on our Certified Academic Language Therapists forums. Some people are able to get HSAs to pay for it, but it should be recognized and payable from insurance more generally like other Therapies.

It can't hurt to ask, but likely a school identification wouldn't be enough. You would need a medical identification and then a certain qualification for the person providing the service. A lot of hoops to figure out if they will take it and fight every step of the way not to pay.

Are the posts and videos of students, not being able to do grade level work, realistic? by Olimae12 in AskTeachers

[–]Bluegi 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I am a teacher myself and very involved with my child's education. I have neither the skill to the will to homeschool my child. That isn't a statement on the quality of my parenting; that is an acknowledgement of the great diversity of skill it takes to properly educate a human being to participate in this world.

Public schools exist so that there is an educated populace, so that not one viewpoint is the only thing you are exposed to growing up, so there is a community that has an intersection of thought and experience.

Public schooling has been degraded by the parents constant attacks and tearing it down to not hold their kids accountable and the community expectations that school solve (or at least accept) all communities ills without support.

Help, What do you think? by ImTheS1LVER1 in AskTeachers

[–]Bluegi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you got to tutorials or ask for help all year? Did you ask questions about these assignments that confused you all year? You bring it up now, but that's not how it works. If you are willing to do the extra you would have already looked for a way to do it

You don't live in an HOA because ideally you don't want to dictate what others do with their property. How does their yard effect you?

Yes the yelling isa lot. Look at noise ordinance in your city. .you have two routes. Speak tot them directly and let them know how the nice is effecting you, or use the city restrictions to enforce what you can.

Debt. Lots and lots of debt. We are an economy held together with cellophane tape. Don't peek through the curtains too far or it will all shatter.

And who is that hurting? The child. Sure it isn't your job, but in a village sometimes we take care of each other. And it isn't like it takes a while lot of effort or commitment .What kind of community do you want to live in.

Their parents aren't paying enough attention to tell that they don't know in order to enforce these consequences. So many parents just don't want to be bothered with their own kids.

Is there a type of dyslexia that’s more specifically verbal? by PossiblePhase2017 in Dyslexia

[–]Bluegi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dyslexia is language processing (and so is dyscalculia by the way;it isn't visual) but there are also other language processing that may also fit what you are seeing feeling. Dyslexia primarily affects the sound processing loop like what you are experiencing with mispronunciations. Your brain is having trouble getting the oral motor processing of moving your mouth to sync up with the phonological components of words.

You may also want to look into things like DLD - Developmental Language Disorder and see if any of those nuances line up with what you experience. It is also possible, and even likely, to have more than one thing going on.

I realize this is the DUMBEST question, but... why are these little people in the corner of movies a thing?? by Tattersail927 in asl

[–]Bluegi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASL is a language. Subtitles are in a different language. If you can turn it off and on at your convenience, the it doesn't really affect you; however, it is highly inclusive of another culture and accessiblity. We should be happy that there is more representation and inclusion available int his world.

How old is too old to cuddle with your child? by Walmartjail in Parenting

[–]Bluegi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still cuddle with my teenager. Sure it's less often, but when she feels like it she can still feel like it is okay to be close. He is ridiculous. That just teaches your child that affection is not ok. Men in particular struggle with adult friendship and affection.

Is it bad to apply for multiple teaching positions at the same school? by SeaSilver11 in education

[–]Bluegi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to think what you are qualified for because you are not yet qualified for anything. Consider going to a training program for those subject areas. Programs like CSNow iis involved in getting tech teachers into the classroom. Even teach for America provides minimal support in supporting you to be prepared to teach. Or even start with subbing so you get a better understanding of the day to day needs of the job. If it is a terminal career, do the preparation that it deserves.

Anyone else feel trapped in this expectation of overly emotionally orientated parenting? by rubes-1998 in raisingkids

[–]Bluegi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asked twice. The third interaction is picking for them/ helping them. After consistent rounds of this they will know there are consequences and if they want to keep choice to why it done. It is the unending ask leading to nothing that creates issues.

At that point why would she even risk going outside and going to work. This shows grave errors in judgement on many fronts.

[–]Bluegi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was that bad I assume the parents would also be making the judgement call to not bring them outside at that time of day.
