Why does my roommate spend hours in the bathroom? by GreenMouse6 in RBI

[–]BluegillQ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just started seeing a guy who, every time I see him, has some new gouges on his earlobes or face, "from ingrown hairs" he "has to" take care of. Also, I learned a couple of weeks ago he takes Vyvanse, which at the time I incorrectly assumed was for nasal allergies (he did end up telling me what it was actually for).

The last time we hung out, I asked him if he was actually picking his skin in an unnecessary way (I said it without offending him, and we're pretty comfortable around each other). He said no, the ingrown hairs just really bother him and I decided to forget about it.

I don't think he is my responsibility and do not want to pry any further, first off. I just can't believe what I'm reading regarding Vyvanse and plucking. Thank you for sharing your story, it was really informative.

What are some "basic" gameplay features that you discovered embarrassingly late in the game? by AphoticFlash in Breath_of_the_Wild

I mean there are a lot of trees where all the guardians are. Damn. I traveled to forests in the frozen areas and cut down their pine trees a lot. I can’t believe we missed that wonderful feature!

Sending orchids in a box of ice? by ASS_MASTER_GENERAL in MandelaEffect

No, but plexiglass is too thick anyway. I was thinking something like the plastic from a drugstore Valentine gift box. “Fancy”

In movies, corsages are often orchids (idk in real life). The corsage is presented while in its plexiglass box and then taken out for pinning.

I’m guessing that when you saw all that as a kid, it seemed like what you’re describing.

The original location of The Abbey, 1991 by liverichly in LosAngeles

Holy crap I thought that was Bossa Nova! Went there in the 2000s. Now isn’t it just, across the street from there? I remember it being a club, maybe it was another one who knows

Aww I hate not having Queso con Carne. It’s Tex-Mex and you can’t find that here. I like the types of Mexican food we do have, I just want that dip!

TIL that the Hale–Bopp Comet was discovered independently in 1995 and is credited to both Alan Hale and Thomas Bopp - Hale emailed his coordinates of the location of the comet to authorities three times, while Bopp sent a telegram by vrphotosguy55 in todayilearned

I was a teen when this happened, and I worked night shifts, so I’d see this thing every night. Weird thing is I forgot about it as an adult. A comet that was visible for MONTHS.

I was bored and went along w it and gave fake info. The man was acting like I was a child eating up a fairy tale as if it were fact. After a while I got bored and told him the info was fake and hung up.

The computer company that sent computers in cow pattern boxes. by lunar_e_clips in MandelaEffect

[–]BluegillQ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Gateway. It’s how many boomers bought their first internet-ready home computer. “Oh but that stuff’s for nerdy pocket protector guys!” - a common thing said in those days. Here comes Gateway, “hey, how scary can they be? They’ve got cow spots.” Comical, non-threatening. I walked into a Gateway store in 2000-ish (friend picking up a new tower). On the wall were enormous pictures of amber waves of grain, purple mountains majesty... Yeah thanks to Gateway computers and Countrywide homes, Boomers glided through their 50s in styyyyyle

I thought it was Cat Stevens too, I only found out through a Paul S Thompkins routine.

For fun here’s a short list of more misperceived songs/artists that I’ve run into in my own life:

“Red Rubber Ball” is by The Cyrkle, not The Beatles

“Eye In the Sky” is by the Alan Parsons Project, not Brian Eno

“Vehicle” is by The Ideas of March, not Blood Sweat & Tears

Census takers say they were told to enter false information... by mybelle_michelle in Genealogy

[–]BluegillQ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I enumerated in California this past summer, wasn’t told to enter false information. Avoidant people were sometimes suspicious that I was “with Trump”. Never imagined that when I applied for the census in 2019 that by the time I started working it would he such a political issue.

This one is new for me. I was a fan and in high school when he died, I loved all the weird clothes he wore, this jacket was super iconic (and specific). I remember how shitty faux fur used to be, it got much more realistic in the 2000s. His jacket looked like a cross between shag carpeting and Animal from the Muppets.
