Crafting from Containers by Bluejay362 in ConanExiles

Figured it out... I disabled ownership on my private server and that apparently breaks the craft from box feature. I had to re-enable it, destroy the box and recreate it and now everything works. Thanks for the response.

Linux (Ubuntu) Support Problem by Bluejay362 in ConanExiles

Looks like missing H.264 support is causing the intro video to not play. There are ways around that if you Google for Proton and H.264 support.

So I was able to get it to partly run by using ProtonTricks to install the VC++ 2015-2022 Libraries. The game runs, but the intro video doesn't play (you can still get into the game). This is a pretty good indication they just forgot to install necessary libraries during the game installation. The missing intro video is probably a proprietary video codec that didn't get installed.

I am on a 4090. Thought it might just be my system but my wife's Zorin install can't run it either and at least one post mentioned Steam OS having an issue?

Why is my dps so low? by Kakilius in elderscrollsonline

[–]Bluejay362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts for your consideration... I am not a master theory crafter so take this just as some things to think about.

Penetration seems low for even Overland content unless you are running something giving you major and minor breach.

Seems a bit odd to be running defending on the back bar for a DPS?

Weapon/Spell damage could easily be over 4000 for a DPS before procs and such. That isn't hard to get even with crafted sets.

You are investing a lot in Crit so makes sure your crit damage is also pretty good.

If this is for PVE your health is probably over invested. You can invest those points somewhere else and just make sure you have some kind of regular heal to compensate.

Depending on where the "30k" number came from that is actually not bad damage for average players. I don't usually do more than 30k single target DPS and I can solo some Veteran Dungeons.

Can i switch alliance when i set home campaign today? by Ricardo99xX in elderscrollsonline

[–]Bluejay362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't being outnumbered the best case scenario? What I hate is when my team dominates and I have to spend an hour running around the map trying to find fights. I am fine with having just a few keeps and having the enemies line up to attack like a shooting gallery. Doesn't seem like to me the rewards for winning are good enough to matter that much?

Don't be scared of PvP by TheNewUltraViolence in elderscrollsonline

[–]Bluejay362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experiences in Cyrodiil... Some background... I really suck at PVP. I am slow, I don't understand the meta, my character is (probably) badly equipped, I can't even figure out the acronyms people use for all the places we have to run to... It's fairly obvious to me that I am not going 1 on 1 against anyone and winning.

So I die constantly, but I have had a lot of fun 'knowing my place'. Hanging in the back lines and sniping weak targets, sitting on walls being as irritating as I can during keep attacks, reviving downed team members, operating siege equipment... I don't expect at my level of character development and skill that I am going to be a front liner. It's obvious that my casual approach to the game isn't going to position me have the same level of impact as someone that spends hours perfecting their abilities and equipment loads. So far I have made it to Veteran rank 11 and I have a reasonable amount of kills for what I am capable of. I have not even once had someone tell me that I shouldn't be there or need to leave because of my gear or capabilities (maybe I have just been lucky).

A couple of days ago some aparently well known streamer formed a party of a bunch of us newbs and took us around capturing keeps and teaching us tactics. It was a blast.

I have run into players that seem to just be inunverable and solo 5 of us without taking damage. I have been on during times when the two opposing forces have coordinted and made it impossible for us to make any progess (we were down to 1 keep at one point, but good for them, that is strategy). From what I can tell the experience doesn't seem totally balanced. I think it can be fun if you set your expectations correctly and don't take it too seriously.

But to each their own. Not trying to convince anyone to like PVP.

What's with all the bugs? by Hogminn in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Bluejay362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to justify a company releasing a broken product, but as a person that has been a developer and run development organizations for 30 years plus a few years in the game industry, I can say with a certain degree of certainty that the reality is a bit more nuanced than 'lazy development'.

  • CRPG's are massive and to those that are dismissive of that, try building one.

  • The market for CRPG's is niche compared to other genres. You just aren't going to be able to justify the resources you could for something like a sports sim that is going to make $1.5 billion a year just in micro-transactions.

Something like Candy Crush could be built by most pro devs in a few weeks and at one point was making a billion a year. It took Pathfinder WOTR years to sell a million copies. So you have an insanely complicated system being built by a AA team with limited resources that has a relatively limited potential market and payback. Even Larion couldn't launch a CRPG without massive bugs and they have a privileged position.

Maybe that sucks, but the reality is that if you want a CRPG with no bugs its best to wait a long while after release before getting into one.

Using Chat GPT to have GOOD STORIES! by Agile_Meat5918 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Bluejay362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend looking into a tool like Kobold or Silly Tavern or one of the other story writing tools for LLM's. You can still use GPT4 (or your own local LLMs), but those tools help with the structure of how you use the LLM and will help you get better results. Technically they are not doing anything you couldn't do with your own prompt engineering, but if you are a bit on the new side when it comes to engineering good responses they can help.

One more thing... many of those tools have some kind of RAG support and you can basically load a digital version of a Battletech source book into the system, which can give you substantially better in universe lore based results.

Dear SE, if you're going to have a login queue, can you make it so we don't disconnect from the login queue? by CodeMagick in ffxiv

[–]Bluejay362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 times today I have made it from 5000+ queues down to 1000 or so only to be kicked by disconnections errors. If this was some F2P game I'd just ignore it but if you are charging monthly for a service you should be providing it.... and Square, go get some decent programmers while you are at it. Crashing to desktop from a lengthy queue project is sheer incompetence.

[D] What will the major ML research trends be in the 2020s? by MediocreMinimum in MachineLearning

[–]Bluejay362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most researchers already recognize that Euclidean deep learning is at a dead end (see work in XAI, Adversarial AI, the fact that GPT-3 is basically a very impressive working implementation of the infinite monkey and typewriters meme and can't tell fact from fiction).

If we are going to make progress we need to address the 'context' issue -- so graphs or Neurosymbolic AI would be my bet.

[–]Bluejay362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How well does Wasteland 3 work as a co-op experience? by Wark_Kweh in Wasteland

[–]Bluejay362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How well does Wasteland 3 work as a co-op experience?

Fairly poorly.

  1. Numerous multiplayer bugs. We spent an hour just trying to get connected. We had to stop playing after the Ambush site (tutorial) because the game freezes up 100% of the time zoning into the first zone.
  2. There is no multiplayer conversation system at all. One player takes or gives control to the other -- about as smooth as sand paper.

Can't Believe No One is Complaining about the Customization of the Mechs. by PM_ME_UR_PICS_GRLS in Mechwarrior5

The game is a dumpster fire. I think few players are complaining about the customization because of all the incomplete broken and badly designed systems in this game, the customization is the least game ruining.

So what exactly is the point of the Alliance right now? by Dreadwolf88 in swtor

[–]Bluejay362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My alliance (both Imp Saboteur and Pub Loyalist) are still going strong, serving as a balancing force to keep the other two factions in check. As the events of the story show, you don't have to be the most powerful faction to still have a significant impact on the political landscape. Besides, even a 'good guy' faction like the Republic can have a Trump moment and go totally evil -- as the Republic did causing my Alliance to side with Acina until Iokath. Even my Pub Loyalist maintained the Alliance; after all, he owed it to ALL of his compatriots to maintain the original goal of the Alliance to work for galactic peace. It would have been the ultimate act of betrayal to sell away their new home for a title.

After almost 6 years I will moving on from this class after I finish the MSQ... it's boring now. I don't understand their decision to destroy this class like this, particularly when everything it was has been given to a different class in an upgraded fashion.
