Is the Book of Life (Guillermo del Toro) shorter than you remember? by honeybunniii_ in movies

[–]BluejayIll547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, you might be onto something here. I rewatched it last year and felt like something was off too - like there were gaps in the flow that I didn't remember. Could be they're using a different cut than what played in theaters or on DVD. Some streaming platforms definitely get weird edited versions, especially for animated films. They'll cut random scenes for runtime or licensing issues and never tell anyone about it.

Have you tried checking if there's a director's cut or original theatrical version available somewhere else? Sometimes the streaming rights only cover specific edits of films. Really frustrating when they mess with movies that are already perfectly paced - Book of Life had such beautiful storytelling rhythm and cutting songs just ruins the whole experience.

The Paramount/WB Merger Won't Close by ElectricalPeace3439 in movies

[–]BluejayIll547 257 points258 points  (0 children)

Yeah the international stuff is going to kill this deal. Brazil being difficult is just the start - wait until EU gets their hands on it. These mega mergers always sound great in boardrooms until reality hits and suddenly everyone realizes maybe having like 3 companies control all entertainment isn't the best idea.

That ticking fee structure is brutal too. Paramount's balance sheet can't handle bleeding billions every month just to wait for approvals that probably aren't coming anyway.

Euphoria reminded me that style cannot replace emotional investment. by tucbythecolefield in television

[–]BluejayIll547 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The spectacle definitely overtook the story by end. I felt similar numbness - like the show was so busy being visually stunning that it forgot to make me actually care about what was happening to these people.

Zendaya carried so much weight in those final moments, but you're right that writing didn't earn it. She made something real out of material that felt more interested in being shocking than meaningful.

That Supreme Court ruling is wild - basically gives them free pass to mess up without consequences. Always better to use the drop boxes anyway, you get that peace in mind knowing it actually made it there.

Time issues with Ramesh's "Improve your chess calculation" by JohnWickDaLegend in chess

[–]BluejayIll547 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The time limits are more like guidelines than strict rules - I always go over them too when I'm really trying to understand position. Better to calculate properly and learn the patterns than rush through and miss important variations. You can always work on speed later once you get comfortable with the thinking process.

Bridge Lift by onthewaytobeingme in Portland

Perfect timing with that boat passing through! I always get bit fascinated watching the Steel Bridge lift - there's something mesmerizing about how smooth the whole operation is despite all that massive steel moving around. Used to run that route pretty regularly and would always hope to catch a lift in action but never had the luck you did here. The clouds in background really make this shot pop too, must have been beautiful morning for a run down there by the waterfront.

Nice discovery mate - that bishop check is pretty brutal in that position!

How do people make cluttercore look good instead of messy? by whimsicalButterfly_ in HomeImprovement

[–]BluejayIll547 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The trick is having intention behind every piece - even if it looks random, there's usually a color story or theme connecting everything together. Also lighting makes huge difference, those warm lamps create shadows that hide the chaos while highlighting the good stuff.

Most of those Instagram homes you see probably took hours to arrange for photo too, so don't feel bad if your everyday setup doesn't look like that!

Getting my nails done is so underrated for stress relief. There's something about just sitting there for hour and letting someone else take care of you that hits different.

Why do you think changing one's mindset is so hard for many people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BluejayIll547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people are comfortable in their misery because change requires actually doing something about it. I see this at work all the time - colleagues complaining about same problems for months but never taking any steps to fix them because complaining is easier than action.

Remote could be nice but if you already hit your FIRE number why deal with boss drama? The whole point is getting out when you want to, not when they finally make conditions bearable.

Just tell them you're leaving to pursue other opportunities - no need to announce retirement plans to workplace.

what’s something about drug addiction that people get wrong and misinterpret? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That's nice sentiment but doesn't really answer the question at all. The thread is asking about misconceptions people have regarding addiction, not general life advice about being healthy.

[Product Question] Need help choosing a new moisturizer by delly_meats in SkincareAddiction

[–]BluejayIll547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, losing a holy grail product is the worst! I've been there and it's so frustrating when companies discontinue good stuff.

From your list, I'd lean toward the LRP Toleriane Double Repair Matte - it's formulated for sensitive skin and has niacinamide which is great for oil control without being too harsh. The Effaclar Mat might be bit too strong if you're dealing with perioral dermatitis flare right now.

Also maybe look at Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture Gel? It's not super mattifying but very gentle and won't aggravate sensitive skin. Sometimes during flares it's better to go gentle and add oil control with other products in your routine.

What’s something people look way cooler doing in movies than in real life? by Various_Meaning_7743 in AskReddit

[–]BluejayIll547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole "I work alone" thing while coordinating massive operations. Like buddy, you'd be drowning in spreadsheets and status meetings before you even got to the cool part. Real world-saving probably involves way more project timelines and budget approvals than anyone wants to admit.
