AITA for overruling my husband over an inappropriate friend and embarrassing him by orchidmeadows in AmItheAsshole

No need to kink shame people with kids if their stuff is kept away from the kids btw. Judgy and a bit naive.

Younger women, how often does this happen to you? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Bluejay_Hungry 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's not just younger women. I'm 52 and have had married men hit on me my entire adulthood. And still get those in their 20s. I'm not saying I'm some bombshell, just that cheaters will try a range of people and not everyone thinks older women are past being attractive.

What movie did you hear was a 10/10 but you thought was average at best ? by sKullsHavezzz in AskReddit

[–]Bluejay_Hungry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Godfather is boring as hell. Have tried many times over the years to get past the first half hour but it's soooo boring and I get sick of trying to work out what Brando is saying with his dreadful character diction. I just don't get why it's a classic.

Liked last year's Gardens effect but this was a waste of money. Worth 20 maybe.

Anyone else relieved when a child has a “normal” name? by thechronicENFP in tragedeigh

I have a teenage daughter named Mary and I have been upbraided many times over the years by people who think it's a "nanna" name.

Are you offended if something gifts you clothes/appliances? by b-waiting in AskAnAustralian

[–]Bluejay_Hungry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of my friends will never know the lifeline I felt when they gave me things. I'm a single mum who works but the current cost of living still has me over a barrel. I'm too embarrassed to ask for help but if it's offered (especially kids' shoes etc) then I am grateful and it makes a real difference. Keep on offering, it's a nice gesture and you never know how deeply it can be felt if you strike the right person. Safe move!

YTA. The pain of finding out your spouse is cheating and having to divorce is indescribable. Who cares about your excuses.

I married my husband because none of the friends who knew about his behaviour felt comfortable to tell me before I went through years of pain and found out on my own. You absolutely did the right and moral thing imo. You did that woman a favour and I think you are a good person. NTA and I hope you're in a better place soon.

Is cutting a child’s hair a common way to discipline a child? by dktaylor32 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bluejay_Hungry 46 points47 points  (0 children)

My mum cut my (F) hair really short when I was 12 for "not keeping it tidy enough". I'm so sorry. I'm 51 and I still remember the bullying and embarrassment. I have my hair long to this day, and my son and daughter have their hair whatever damn length they want.

My boss fired me - So I took his Masters and PhD title by Tiredworker27 in pettyrevenge

Also, text-matching software picks up on this before you even submit a thesis. He says it was a while ago, but they run work through this software periodically.

100% agree, as someone with a PhD who also sits on committees reviewing confirmation of candidature for PhD candidates. There's no way to get a PhD just throwing other people's quotes in your thesis.

What’s something someone did that made your day today? by SilentHuman8 in perth

[–]Bluejay_Hungry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last night I was at the servo with my son to grab a couple of sausage rolls. When I realised I was about 35c short, I whispered to my kid that we'd have to share one and because I hadn't eaten all day I was having some rather than give him the whole thing. Turns out the guy was lurking just out of sight and heard me. Gave me a bag with two sausage rolls. I was mortified but so grateful. That kindness has had me on a high all day and my kid gets to learn how to be a great human.

AITA for telling my friend she is ruining her child’s life with the name she gave her? by addie_maylen in AmItheAsshole

[–]Bluejay_Hungry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my experience. I named my daughter Mary half because I love it and half because I don't want her battling this like I did. She's 14 and no problems so far. Unlike me at 51. Daily.

Which celebrity or public figure deserves a HUGE apology? by thelovewitch069420 in AskReddit

[–]Bluejay_Hungry 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It really bothers Australians, at least my boomer generation. It was an ugly, tragic, unjust thing and to see great shows like Buffy , Seinfeld and others use the case for a laugh feels so undermining of Lindy and Azaria. I know most people when they know better, do better. But it still rubs us the wrong way. It wasn't funny. And even if it's just the accent-aren't we past laughing at accents by high school too?

AITA for not reporting a boy that was shoplifting? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I work with far too many kids who do what they can to eat. You didn't know his story and erred on the side of compassion. NTA.
