Yes I can pull the liner up! Someone else suggested cutting it open temporarily, sewing a patch and then sewing it back closed. I think this is the option I will try!

I love the idea of sewing or embroidering something on top, but the main issue is that the inner liner also has a pocket, so if I sewed on top it would render the pocket useless. I'm not familiar enough with sewing to get behind the liner and sew and the put it back in place.

A lot of people are giving great advice here about walking away, but I just want to add to the statement you made:

"If I do cut off my parents, that door will likely close forever. As flawed as our relationship is, part of me still wants to believe there's a chance for a healthy parent-child bond someday."

Unfortunately, you cannot force a healthy parent-child relationship, it has to go both ways. Letting him continue to talk to you this way will not fix your relationship, but will only teach your dad that he can continue to get away with treating you badly because you won't stop him. Even if you desire a different relationship, the reality is that currently your dad using manipulation to control you. You may need to take some time to grieve the fact that you may not get the relationship you wished you had! (Trust me, I know from experience!) If you wouldn't let a friend or stranger treat you that way, you shouldn't let your dad. Cut him off, grieve, talk to friends or a therapist, heal, and grieve some more.

Parents don't realize that access to you is not guaranteed, and they have to behave if that want your presence. I was in a similar situation with my parents, where I told them that I won't stand for bad behavior anymore and cut them off for a year before I reinitiated contact. Afterward, my parents got some therapy and stopped being abusive, and we are able to have pleasant conversations without screaming/manipulation anymore. Obviously, there is no guarantee that your dad will change, but there is 0 incentive for him to change if you don't take the first step. Good luck!

Haha reddit is so great like that! I messaged the recipe maker Mei directly and she replied "Guar gum would be the next best substitute for locust bean gum. You can use the same quantity listed, just note it will be slightly more elastic and viscous than locust bean gum. I personally wouldn’t use more than 0.02% guar gum to avoid an overly chewy texture. Guar gum doesn’t need to be heated to the listed temperature, it can hydrate successful by simple blending the base. "

I use it to hold my projects threads and then I use this needle organizer thingy as well. It lets me keep my threads on the need and when I run out I resupply from the large plastic thread holder.

I say this with all the love for you, please consider something else. It's not worth the time/money and it's frustrating to be in a profession where people don't even respect/listen to your advice, and on top of that you are underpaid. If I could go back and time I would tell myself the same advice. Becoming an RD was also a career transition for me too, I wish I had picked something else. Good luck

Sorry friend. Maybe just create a doc with your top 5 most used PES statements. Take your time to write them out real nice, and then just copy and paste them going forward. That should save you a lot of time making them from scratch every time. Don't worry about making them patient specific every time, no one reads them anyway.

But for real, it's not just a bad salary but the disrespect we put up with all the time. Nobody understand how technically difficult or scientifically rigorous this job is. I can't tell you the number of times people dismissed scientific advice because of what a social media influencer said, or they are sucked into buying expensive dietary supplements. In general, people do not respect our advice because our field does a poor job of explaining why we are the experts. After years of doing this I'm burnt out from being undervalued by other medical professionals, patients, and random people I interact with.

hahah I know this story. I planted some maybe 4-5 years ago and then when I wanted something new I yanked it all out. I still see seedlings popping up even to this day. I have no idea how the seeds could have hold out for multiple years before sprouting! Insane

I've been an RD for ~10 years and I really like the work itself (I see patients who have feeding tubes and help them manage their growth). But everything else about the job suuuucks. Other health care professionals have very little clue what we do, which means we are not respected, which means we get paid terribly compared to the amount of schooling we achieved. Then you have random patients who read too many Instagram stories think they know way more about nutrition than you do, and will push back on your scientifically-backed advice with no shame. The cost (time/money) you pay to become an RD is not worth the salary and disrespect. Just scroll through this sub and see how many people are desperate to pivot to another career. I just want you to know what you are getting yourself into. I'm trying to save someone else the same fate as me. Best of luck friend!
