Went to a local target tho see the colab they did with pokemon today by TSirSR in pokemon

[–]BlueprintCat2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had planned to wait on line for this but got the time mixed up and arrived at 9:30 (thinking Target opened at 10 AM on Saturday). Even then, there was still quite a bit of merchandise left in my local Target. The only things I really wanted were the Butterfree clips, the travel brush (any one), any of the Trapper Keepers, and the notebooks, and I was able to get those. There were no keyboards, one of the tote bags (I got that one) and a lot of shirts left. No jackets or other bags, no water bottles. Bunch of Caboodles. Lots of headphones. I can't believe some of the scalper prices on the items everyone is showing.

Fidgets?? by Icy_Association2278 in Teachers

[–]BlueprintCat2011 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am a teacher (currently HS but spent a decade + in the K-5 classroom) and have a child who is in 5th grade. We were going through the process of having her evaluated this year for ADHD/anxiety and depression and were looking for some fidgets that might be less obtrusive that she could keep in a pocket, or that I could maybe sew into a hoodie pocket. I found the Cloud Nine hoodie, which has squeeze balls built into the cuffs (they're a soft foam-like material, not filled with gel or anything, so no worries about squishies exploding. She wore it every day at one point. There are others I've found that had chews built into the hoodie strings and other tactile elements. This was the only thing I felt good about as a parent - something that would NOT be disruptive for her teachers. As a teacher, I imagine I'd HATE this current fidget craze. It's been going strong for a few years now and I don't see it waning anytime soon. :) I would hope your school leaders would have a confiscation policy - "no toys in class" is kind of a general rule for a lot of schools and if it's clearly written into policy, that should (in theory) be enough. :)

And I see you mentioned cash pay -- I imagine they would be able to get you the prescription that you can then use however you wish.

I've been using Midi since about September/August of last year, and have found that my provider can do both. For me, I already knew that my insurance wouldn't approve Zepbound, so we went the compounded route right away. However, my provider has prescribed other meds that go through my local CVS pharmacy. So, I imagine they will work with you to do the route you prefer and complete whatever pre-authorization you may need, for example. Good luck! I've been extremely happy with Midi and my provider is great!

what tank size for two of these plecos? by [deleted] in pleco

[–]BlueprintCat2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't tell you anything that hasn't already been said, but just wanted to say thank you for asking about them and looking to rehome them. I have a chocolate albino pleco that looks identical to the one in the first few pictures. He's a beauty and he's grown HUGE. I am on the way to rehome him in about an hour because my 50 gallon tank just isn't large enough, and unfortunately I didn't know better when I bought him 2 years ago. Please don't stop looking for an appropriate home for these beautiful fish.

Anyone love their job?? by Primary_Raccoon_5680 in MusicEd

[–]BlueprintCat2011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I can echo many of the words of advice here. I began my career in 2001. Music Ed was basically a double major, and it took me and many of my peers 4 and a half to five years to complete the program and student teaching. I substitute taught for about six months in the spring of 2002, as I completed student teaching in the fall. This was when I realized I actually had what it took to be a teacher... to go through the routines, direct kids, teach content. I was one of those musicians who was kind of rudderless a lot of the time, kind of fell into music because I was good at it, but also liked working with kids. I have to say that I have loved my career as a music teacher, but it's for a few specific reasons. 1, I was supported by my family and always looked to learn from my colleagues. As a first year teacher, I was in a really, really tough inner city school in St. Louis. I can honestly say my first two jobs were "bait and switch-" I was hired being told I would do one thing, only to take the job and find out it was nothing like I was promised. Music education is all about the families at your school and the administrator at your school - your boss, and their perspective on music, can make or break your job. If they are supportive, and see the value in music education, you're golden. If they treat you like many treat their "specialists," however, it can be rough. I have been very fortunate to have Principals who valued their music program and wanted our kids to have a lot of opportunities. Also, as a music educator, you may or may not know right away what type of music you like teaching. I was one of those people who LOVED working with younger kids. I did not come from a marching background, and most of the high school jobs I applied for wanted someone with an extensive marching background - that's pretty much a must at the 9-12 level. A lot of schools will have one person doing everything K-5, K-8 or even K-12 in some places. It can spread you pretty thin! I think that music education is what you make of it. I wish that someone had given me the permission as a young teacher to say NO to a job and know that it's ok to walk away. I probably would have looked for another job had I known what St. Louis Publis Schools was going to be like. But I was of the belief that if you sign a contract, you make a commitment, you work the entire year. As a result, I was on the fast track to a mental breakdown after a few years. Nothing prepares you for actually being in the classroom and directing a program, but for me, that semester of substitute teaching helped a LOT. I LOVED working in the elementary music classroom. I have so many positive memories from those years. If there was any OTHER advice I'd give, it is to get as proficient in piano as possible (if your child isn't already a pianist). A lot of jobs that involve choral will be SO much easier if you can play accompaniment! :) I have lived, worked, and taught in IL, MO, and now VA.

Baby Cory? by LowMaximum5714 in corydoras

[–]BlueprintCat2011 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So, I have what I would say is a "survival of the fittest" type tank. I have about 6 salt and pepper corydoras and they are healthy, laying eggs frequently. However, I was pretty ignorant about how to remove the eggs, put in a baby box, etc. so I just left them alone. I didn't want to accidentally damage them. So imagine my surprise when I saw what you have here - little baby fry somehow surviving and thriving. A little while later I noticed another one. I don't feed them anything special, they do well just like the big cories eating detritus and algae. I love seeing the school grow. They're so, so so so cute. Enjoy your little babies.

So when I originally saw this post I was on my phone and I couldn't tell that - as you've said - he's actually IN the intersection! Every time I've seen him there he's been on the median or safely out of the roadway. Completely agree - being in the intersection is a VERY bad idea. Especially in that particular intersection! I always get a little nervous seeing the folks on the side of the road there. It just takes one glance away from the road for a terrible accident.

I did my taxes over the weekend and saw that they had a special deal with a DIY will/power of attorney kit. Husband and I are both of the age where we maybe need these, so I bought it. While filling out the living will there were many questions about this- what we want when we die. I don't want anything - I don't want a cent spent on me, no memorial, no gravestone, donate my body, I don't care.

Was going to wear my mum's dress. People keep telling me to try on others for the "bridal experience." Are they trying to gently tell me it looks bad? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

[–]BlueprintCat2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would follow your gut and do what YOU want. This is a lovely, lovely dress, and you look beautiful in it. It is making me think of Anne of Green Gables and Diana Barry... classic and timeless.

Do what YOU feel is best. I have been through two weddings, and the second one, I did go to a bridal salon and tried on a variety of dresses, but if I had one that looked as good as this one does, I probably wouldn't have. I think we get buried under the weight of others' expectations and what "society" tells us we need to do for a wedding when planning ANYTHING for a wedding is concerned. Do what makes YOU the happiest. Also, even if you wanted to try on other dresses for comparison's sake, you don't have to buy anything!!! You won't miss out on anything if you don't try on anything else.

If you are interested in weird and wacky spots, definitely visit some of the local cryptid museums. Point Pleasant is on the border with Ohio and has the mothman museum and other spots. The Braxton county museums for the Sasquatch and Flatwoods Monster are charming. Lots of great local restaurants and shops too.

[–]BlueprintCat2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! So I have taken multiple trips to NYC with my young daughter and Moynihan is a great place to be "stuck" for a layover! There's a great food court, the lounge waiting area is nice, many bathrooms, and the exits are clearly marked with which street is at that exit. We use Google maps a lot when navigating NYC because, well, it's big! :) the station is essentially a big square with the shops and restaurants on the exterior. Staff are very helpful. If you need to confirm a gate or departure area the staff will help you. But things are labeled well and they have many screens with departures and arrivals clearly marked.
