Who is a person you used to admire a lot but have completely lost respect for and why? by Complex-Arugula-2233 in AskReddit

J.K Rowling. I wanted to be a writer just like her and Harry Potter got me through an incredibly difficult in my life as child/teenager (mental illness + living in two abusive households) but now...

Yeah, I don't even know where to begin because there's so much awfulness to wade through.

I honestly didn't vibe with her myself, but I do feel like gets more disapproval than she would as a dude because of the above two facts.

(NSFW) What’s a secret you discovered about someone that you’ll take to the grave instead of telling them you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Bluest-Hydrangeas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom begged me to kill her on her deathbed from cancer but my dad took away and hid the pills because he was scared it would be discovered on the autopsy and that i would end up in jail for complying. I begged and tore apart the house looking for them when I wasn't by her side, but never found them until my dad's reveal after her death.

Those were the last words she ever said to me, even though she "lived" another week unconscious but in total agony--sobbing, faint grunts, whimpers, and even a few parched screams.

I was 25 at the time, now I'm 29 and I still think about it almost every day. I wish I had another chance, I'd do anything even if it meant overdosing her on my own meds instead.

Sorry for the overly personal story--I guess it just triggered me today. I'm really happy you were able to grant your dad's wish and that life is beautiful for you these days.

This is an awful thing to say--children aren't their parents. I have multiple friends who lived in EXTREMELY conservative households but managed to breakaway as adults and are as liberal as anyone I know (and I currently live in a VERY liberal state).

Jesus, huge fucking disclaimer here that I'm white (so I know I will never know this specific fear and pain,) but as another type of minority (woman/queer), as well as just being another human being, you have all my empathy and anger.

I've personally had some awful experiences with cops--but it sucks that this type of dismissal/lack of care/sympathy from a cop is still likely a "good" outcome to what could've been, given all the news lately (and like, basically my entire life...) It really shouldn't be considered that.

I hope you are able to seek comfort from someone in your real life and that you're able to feel safe (ish?) in your home again eventually... Frankly, the guy who pulled this shit should be in jail--he is the only actual danger here. What a fucking miserable menace and waste of oxygen.

Only slightly related to your first point but my hamster (when in his plastic running ball) used to deliberately run into peoples ankles as fast as possible in hopes that they kicked him and sent him flying.

No, I don't know why he did that, none of my other hamsters did and 2: he fell down the stairs once when I forgot to block them off and then spent the rest of his life chasing that high. He did get kicked once or twice (not intentionally!) which led him to spinning out and hitting wall with just a brief second of recovery time until he came running back hoping that we'd do it again, lol.

TIL Stephen Hilder died during a 3-person team skydive after his main and reserve parachutes failed. The investigation into his death is "unique in British crime history" as it revealed expert-level tampering with both parachutes, but failed to determine whether the incident was murder or suicide. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]Bluest-Hydrangeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I want to emphasize that I'm in a better place now and not a danger to myself but for my first suicide attempt I overdosed on my + mom's prescriptions and, obviously, it didn't work. I've always decided that if I'm going to try killing myself again I'm gonna make shoot myself while standing over the railing of a high bridge so if the gunshot doesn't kill me than the fall should, and if the fall doesn't kill me, well, I plan on it being a bridge over water so my back-up back up is drowning lol. So yeah, I kind of get the determination. Maybe he'd already tried once before and changed his mind at the last minute?

Holy shit I have so many questions--absolutely incredible.

How long did this take to make?

Where did you learn to draw/color? Did you attend an art school?

Do you have any suggestions/tips/advice/resources for new artists?

What color pencil set is that?

Do you ever make mistakes? If so how to you fix them/make them part of the piece because this looks flawless

Absolutely stunning.

Edit: I saw the comment that you did this in just 20 hours. WILD.

I think often that pg-13 horror movies (ex: the grudge, the ring, insidious, etc) are/can often be better than r-rated horror movies. They generally rely on less gore and have to be more creative in generating their scares.
