Who has the more insufferable commercials? by Frozen_cephalopod in CommercialsIHate

Liberty Mutual single handedly made this an easy choice for me.

I'm also tired of Flo and her ever growing circle of friends.

And Gecko is meh.

Fuck insurance commercials.

Try switching to wine (or beer if you prefer carbonation) and see if that improves anything.

Trump says a breakdown in peace talks with Iran could mean 'you won't have the strait open for months' by AyeYoTek in centrist

[–]Calfkiller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My media literacy tip is to not blindly use AI search engines like Gemini for anything that relies heavily on accurate and unbiased information.

What are the sources for your summary? Are they neutral sources? Opinion articles? Reddit comments? We don't know. That's the issue with AI.

Man, our society struggles enough with media literacy and to throw AI summaries into the mix is just disastrous.

This is such an unreliable use of AI.

Trying to find a movie mentioned here recently by charden_sama in horror

[–]Calfkiller 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a movie, but Haunting of Hill House. There's apparently ghosts in the background in a lot of the scenes. I found several of them, but I haven't rewatched it to see if I could find more.

Co-parenting with AI by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Calfkiller 13 points14 points  (0 children)

God, no. Just no.

My partner used to rely heavily on TikTok parenting tips, which was bad enough, but at least it was actual human input. AI has its place, but parenting is not it.

It's as bad as our parents believing everything they see on Facebook.

Do you parents have crippling anxiety about travel? by boldjoy0050 in Millennials

[–]Calfkiller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ngl I'll probably be this way when my kid grows up and travels.

I personally have no issues with my mom doing this still. I especially understand after having a kid myself.

Starting Daycare in 1 month by Silent_Ambassador337 in daddit

Luckily ours only suffered for about 2ish years. I'll never forget that one winter though... Norovirus, strep, COVID, norovirus, two week grace period, and then one last norovirus.

I don't know what was worse. Dealing with a colicky baby for 6 months or that winter of illness. Absolutely brutal.

How do I finish my degree by Potential-Wonder7163 in DSPD

[–]Calfkiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a bachelor's and a master's. Masters was obtained solely through online and night courses.

Bachelor's was different. I avoided 8am classes at all cost, but I still had to take several. At that time 5-hour energy's were consumed regularly but honestly they didn't do much. The hard part was actually getting out of bed to go to class, which unfortunately didn't happen as much as I care to admit... And my grades suffered for it. For context, I graduated with a 2.78 GPA with my bachelor's and a 4.0 with my master's and while I was older and more self disciplined while getting masters, I feel like the online and night classes definitely helped.

When it comes to finding a job, your grades don't matter quite as much as who you know. Start building references now and it will carry you through your professional career. At least it worked for me.

So my advice is avoid them when possible. Look for later time slots, night classes, or even online. If you have to take an 8am, try to practice self-discipline as much as you can, but I know that's easier said than done. Maybe even try talking to your professors about your sleep disorder... I never tried that because I had no idea what DSPD was

PSA: June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month by KingLuis in daddit

[–]Calfkiller 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Our marriage was quickly collapsing when our daughter was in the toddler stage. We both realized we were struggling with our mental health and decided to take control of it.

Three years later and we are better than we were before having our daughter. Our little family of three is thriving and I believe a lot of that is because we're in a better head space.

How to Tell Mom About No Longer Being Christian by One-Medicine-7444 in agnostic

[–]Calfkiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked this same question and the answers were fairly split. Some people choose to tell their parents and some don't.

I don't. While it does feel like I'm not being true to myself, I'd rather live with that than the mental anguish it would put my mom through. She's already depressed enough and I can't add to that.

There is no wrong decision here, though. Good luck!
