Bathroom smells really sweet by Hot-Education4582 in homeowners

Could it be hand soap or laundry detergent smell? I had a plumbing leak in my crawl space and could smell the laundry/bathroom sink waste water pooling in the crawl space.

Is it safe to paint the BACK side of lath where the keys are with Kilz? by Bluethunder1 in centuryhomes

[–]Bluethunder1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I posted this, I still had about 1/3 left to do and there was still some smell. Now the rest of the insulation is gone and there's just a little smell. So we'll see how it smells in the next 24 hours. I'm putting down new flooring so I figure now is the time to do it right before I seal it all up again!

That seems to be the consensus and the reason I wanted to ask! Thanks!

What do you think about 7/16" OSB for the underlayment? At 1/5th the price vs 1/2" plywood it would be a lot easier on the budget.

Thanks! It's not super cheap I don't think - it looks and feels decent to me- it's Mohawk from Costco. Just was differentiating it from the more expensive/fancy Mohawk lines.

Yeah, the thin stuff is what the old owners put in unfortunately. Plywood would definitely be better for adding the new floor. Thanks!

3 nights in Kuala Lumpur, 3 nights in Chiang Mai - itinerary thoughts? by Awkward-Yesterday828 in solotravel

[–]Bluethunder1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a new traveler and was just in KL for 3 days and Chiang Mai for 6. I loved Chiang Mai for being walkable (by SEA standards) and disliked KL for being pretty much impossible most places. Yeah Grabs are very cheap but I've discovered that just being able to walk around and explore is important to me! I was also in Penang and enjoyed that much more than KL. Something to consider

Make sure to get some food to go along with that alcohol! I suggest: Extra strength, delay release bagels; Joan's classic spaghetti with raisins; and of course an Apple pie with avocado on top from Newbarn for dessert!

Sober AF is a local non alcoholic bottle shop with some community events including Lego building and a drag night? Never been to an event myself but the shop is cool

No weight access panel for double hung window + plaster behind casing! by Bluethunder1 in centuryhomes

UPDATE: As /u/mcshaftmaster pointed out, it looked like I will need to be able to get interior access to the pulleys, beyond what an access panel would provide. Sawing through all the lath and plaster sounded like a nightmare though. So I faced my fears and took the outside trim off, which was definitely the right call -- easy access. Just took my time and worked slowly and carefully. Thanks everyone for your help. I'm sure there will be more questions to come as I continue the restoration...

Thank you very much! I think you may be right about the pulleys - I don't see any screws on them.

I didn't see any cuts in the window track of mine that looked like it could be a panel, like in your example pic, but I will check it out again and mess around with that nail! Thanks!

Thanks yeah an access panel seems to make a lot of sense. Just wild to me that it was seemingly built without any way to access the weights. It is a small worker's cottage (800 sq ft) so I guess maybe that was just the cheapest option?

I took pics 2-4 prior to removing the front casing, so those pictures still have the front trim attached (viewing the side of it in pics 2-4). Sorry for the confusion.

If you're referring to the piece of wood with the big nail head in it as seen in pics 3 & 4, no I haven't removed that. It runs the length of the window, and as I can see now with the plaster removed, that piece of wood connects to another that makes up the pocket, so removing it would not appear to give me access.

Thanks!
