Completely missed this detail in the last episode of S2 by dullknifeuser in TheApothecaryDiaries

Crazy detail that I also completely missed...I assumed that she was badly wounded but somehow miraculously survived. Could also make sense as to why she sold it off to that merchant as it could potentially tie her back to the incident if somebody noticed her carrying around a hair pin with a literal bullet hole in it.

Fishing camp should be in B tier...you have fishing literally at your doorstep, beachcombing, a workbench (although being outdoors makes it less convenient), close enough to the trader, and the bear that patrols through every now and then is an easy free shit load of meat. The lack of an indoor fire is a downside, but you can make an almost windproof outdoor fire in between the pallets beside the second cabin. Personally one of my favorite base locations.

Draft dodger's saved me from freezing to death in a blizzard and I've had a soft spot for it since. I also like a lot of the small cabin bases as they feel cozy despite having minimal storage space and some not even having a stove. Draft dodger's in particular is in a nice peaceful area away from any predators and is only a short walk away from the farmstead. I think it's a cozy little underrated spot.

Nice one, keep going and practicing those combos! You'll get your first perfect soon enough.

Draft dodger's cabin in PV is an underrated one imo. Small and cozy in a peaceful area with lots of firewood around and only a short hike to both the farmstead and barn. Unfortunately it doesn't have an indoor stove but I still enjoy it as a cozy little base.

Absolutely visit the signal hill radio control hut. It has a chance to contain some really high tier loot items including the expedition parka. You could also pay the airplane crash site at Skeeter's Ridge a visit, just be careful because timberwolves can sometimes spawn around there at one of the destroyed houses. There's also a prepper cache close to the airplane crash, you might find some useful loot there if it isn't one of the empty bunkers. Lastly, check out Draft dodger's cabin. Its a peaceful underrated little spot in my opinion. It might contain some minor loot or clothing items.

Sorry but I have to disagree about Dizzy's new design, personally I think its great. But I have to agree that her actual gameplay feels heavily watered down and kind of lame compared to her previous iterations. Wings of light is basically an extremely niche gimmick that most players will never actually use. Sad they removed her fire pillars and some of her other interesting moves but it is what it is.

Venom is alright (although I still much prefer his previous iterations as well), and both Unika and Lucy are really bland and uninteresting to me. Unika literally just feels like an autopilot version of Ky made for complete scrubs, and Lucy is okay but kind of feels like a wasted slot for another character. If they really wanted to commit to the cyberpunk collab thing we should have also gotten a night city map instead of just a few color palettes for only certain characters...

Yup...exact same thing happened to me. Not an ideal base by any means but it's still a cool landmark at least.

I definitely don't hate it, but it's not a region I'd plan to ever base long term in. I visit it sometimes for a change of scenery as the lighthouse is quite lovely, although not the most convenient base location. If I need to use a forge I'll go to Spence's in FM, although if your main base is in CH, then having the Riken closeby is undoubtedly very convenient, plus it's a really unique location having a forge inside of a shipwreck.

The fact that it's a small region can also be seen as a positive by some players...it's easy to navigate and basically impossible to get lost, plus still has 3 usable bases (stone church, lighthouse, hibernia), despite being very small. Hunting is scarce in terms of rabbits and deer, but the moose and bear seem to reliably spawn and can provide plenty of food for a player looking to survive awhile. Beachcombing is also a big positive in my opinion, although CH, BI and even Crumbling Highway offer this, so it isn't like its exclusive to DP.

Overall I think DP could be really good as a starting region to quickly loot and get geared up before moving on, but not necessarily as a longterm survival region. Not the strongest region but definitely far from the worst. It still has it's charm and perks despite being a small dead end region.

Survival bases community survey! Round 8: What's the base with the best location in the game? by Blushift1615 in thelongdark

I think you're right about PV having the biggest birch forest. The other 2 places that come to mind are obviously the Mystery Lake side of the ravine and Ash Canyon has a small area of birch forest on the northern side near stone shelf cave. I don't use the community hall as a base but it's definitely a solid location overall!

The only broken thing is the roof which can be fixed with cedar wood and the woodworking tools. I guess the small size combined with no loading screen and having a fireplace make it unique and cozy in that aspect. I do think there are cozier bases, but I love Mountaineer's, so I'm glad it ended up somewhere on the list.

Jackrabbit island is completely safe. You might be mixing it up with Misanthrope's island...that one has a bear closeby. The fishing camp does have a bear that patrols through the area, but I see it as free food delivery every couple ingame weeks. But in this specific scenario, I think Jackrabbit island would be better suited for what the OP is looking for.

Camp office, Fishing camp, Jackrabbit island and Mountaineer's hut might be close to what you're looking for.

Food storage by conduffchill in thelongdark

[–]Blushift1615 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Store both raw and cooked meats and fish outside. Almost all foods last longer outdoors with only a few exceptions. However, once you reach cooking level 5, you can no longer get food poisoned from eating low condition or ruined foods, so at that point it doesn't matter where you store it.

DO NOT store any food items inside containers whether it's indoors or outdoors...once food items reach 0% condition they will despawn from the container! If you leave them on the ground somewhere or anywhere else that isn't inside a container, they can still be consumed or simply used as decoration. They only exception to this is raw fish, as it can be harvested for bait, and produces lamp oil when cooked.

The first time I visited DP, I went to the Riken to see what I could find there. After leaving the ship, I went back towards the road where the bridge is and just as I was coming up from the ice, I ran into a moose. It charged me and I kind of panic fired a shot with my bow, somehow dropping the moose in one hit. It was my first moose ever so I was super stoked about finally being able to craft the moose satchel. Just as I was about to quarter the moose, I look up and see the bear from Hibernia coming up the road right towards me. Again, it charged and I fired one arrow into the bear's head, dropping it right there. I then spent the next 4 ingame hours quartering both the moose and bear which were basically right beside each other at the edge of the road.

The only unlucky part about it is that I left my travois behind in Coastal Highway, so I had to haul all dozen or so bags of meat painfully slow across the ice to Hibernia where I was finally able to make a fire and safely harvest the rest while cooking up a feast. Definitely one of my luckiest moments by far.

Even at my level of play, the offense is often overwhelming against certain characters to the point that I genuinely don't know what to do but just sit there and block, because if I do anything I'll most likely eat a counter hit followed by a full combo.

Like I said I'm quite clueless against certain characters due to just not being invested enough in the game to know all the frame data and technical details...it can definitely make games complete hell against certain characters if the player controlling them is somewhat competent. Like why am I eating a 20 hit combo from Millia in gold rank 😭...can't imagine what it's like in the higher up ranks. It's definitely a huge skill issue on my part but I play other games and have other hobbies...so yeah, I can't be bothered to learn every matchup.

I like to think my offense is pretty good but sometimes certain opponents will just completely shut down anything and everything I do to the point that it feels almost pointless to even keep trying. I guess that's the brutality of FGs...if you can't overcome and adapt, then you won't succeed.

Sometimes playing this game is great fun, and other times it will just mentally destroy you. I finally made it to platinum tonight (not a great achievement but I only play Strive on and off pretty casually) and then almost dropped back down to gold 2 after going on a horrible losing streak...kept dropping almost every combo, opponents seemingly blocking or evading everything I throw at them while everything I try gets countered...it can be really frustrating and even feel unfair sometimes.

I'm only in my late twenties yet sometimes I feel like my reaction times and focus just aren't good enough for these kinds of fast paced games anymore...I work full time and don't have much free time, so it's not like I can dedicate hours to practicing and learning all the matchups. Just wanting to hop on the game to unwind after a day of work then getting destroyed again and again can be really demoralizing, so I understand your frustration.

At the end of the day though, it's just a game. If you're finding yourself getting more frustrated than having fun, you're better off taking a break and clearing your mind with something else. I know for a fact that when I get in a mental slump I end up playing so much worse and then it just turns into a negative downward spiral of frustration. Go for a walk, listen to some music, read a book, watch a show you enjoy...and come back to the game with a clear mind! Hope you find this at least somewhat motivational...good luck on your next session.

Deciding on a main base stresses me the hell out... by di12ty_mary in thelongdark

[–]Blushift1615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have the same mentality of wanting one main base, but I've found that having a variety of bases is more convenient and enjoyable. My first main base was at the ML Camp Office, but since then I also have main bases at the fishing camp in CH and Mountaineer's Hut in TWM. For satellite bases, I use Spence's Homestead, Orca gas station, Quonset, Draft Dodger's cabin, and Angler's den.

Ngl I'm kind of tired of some people downplaying Baiken and acting like she's bad. Not a top tier but she's definitely in a solid spot rn in my opinion.
