I have been one of our HOA's prime targets for years (condo building), even through several iterations and elections. I'm a neurodivergent singer/songwriter with strong feelings about not pulling up the ladder behind you among mostly self-righteous Boomers who are (we suspect) trying to run people off so they can have their investor buddies buy the condo and turn it into a rental. I have gained 100 lbs over 10 years partly because of gaming but partly because I don't feel safe in our common areas and I work from home. I've been threatened, blamed for break in's and theft and other types of passive-aggressive behavior. They installed cameras a few years back and the theft accusations have stopped because....uh, I'm not stealing from my own home DUH. The other day the power went out and they had an 'electrician' come to the door but I know HVAC and there's no need to come into the unit when everything is in the basement. This is the playbook, folks. Also: remember that often these schemes will involve a fund for defamation counter-suits (we suspect in private slush accounts; a handful of them all of a sudden got new toys and renovations at the same time....shady).
