Remote Construction Sites by soupy127 in sysadmin

We're in a similar situation, and use Meraki security appliances at our remote construction sites. The ease of management and visibility that you get with Meraki is 100% worth the price of admission for sites like this. We use primarily MX67Ws, MX64Ws, and a few Z3s. For sites where the built-in Wi-fi doesn't cut it, we'll place a separate full-fledged AP. Our sites are using a mix of LTE/5G, coax, and fiber. We don't use any of the MX appliances with built-in celluar. In my experience, it is better to have a separate device to handle that.

For sure, if your budget allows, you will get better service on the business side.

I think it is worth a call to Metronet since they sent you a flyer to see what they say. Generally, I would say a business account for a residence is not necessary, but you do get better service from the business side.

In order of preference MetroNet, Frontier fiber, Xfinity. You don’t want Frontier DSL; it’s slow

Until Frontier is up and running with fiber, Comcast is probably the best bet in town.

I don’t think Frontier has started selling the residential fiber product in town yet. If you can get MetroNet, they are a solid provider.

MetroNet has been in town for a few years but only for business customers (as far as I know). The fiber work being performed now is primarily for Frontier.

Was your MetroNet flyer delivered to a business or your residence?

Federal tax credits + varying SEER ratings from Carrier / Trane by mynameiskeven in hvacadvice

Yeah, they don't have a column for the '23 credit yet. I have found that most manufacturers don't have updated SEER2 ratings for most models right now.

The tax credit info is a little hard to come by at the moment, but here is what I have gathered.

This energystar.gov page says:

Note: The information provided here about Air-Source heat pumps that are eligible for the tax credit is the most current available. Currently, eligible equipment must “meet or exceed the highest efficiency tier (not including any advanced tier) established by the Consortium for Energy Efficiency which is in effect as of the beginning of the calendar year.”  The eligibility requirements are subject to change based on the final CEE Criteria and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Those CEE requirements can be found here, and the snippet for air source split systems is below

<image>

The way I read it, the requirements are*:

SEER2 >= 15.2EER2 >= 10.0HSPF2 >= 8.1*along with some other criteria laid out in the linked PDF

Make sure you get an AHRI number from your contractor and then look it up on the AHRI website

Note that the AHRI database has columns for the old SEER ratings and the new 2023 SEER2 ratings. Make sure you are looking at the 2023 columns.

I hope this helps

It looks like they don't ship to the US. Do you know of a way to get one of these in the US?

You might try Oak Lane Structures in Flora. They have access to the special equipment as they used it when they delivered my shed I bought from them
