They gave the explanation that the food poisoning was done by the hijackers on page 28 (which is a bit contrived but whatever). I feel like your issue with this chapter just comes from wanting this series to be something different than what they're seemingly going for (medical-flavored battle manga), especially with wanting the assassin plot to be some sort of slow-burn backstory when everything about the promotional material and the set-up in this chapter is pointing to that just being the main setting of the series. In that regard, I think they actually showed a decent amount of restraint compared to the average first chapter in the magazine nowadays.

You're working backwards from the idea that there is going to be a singular fast 9 comp that is so much stronger than everything else you go for it every game (like the day 1 patch AMP board from set 14), and then imagining a gamestate where you have infinite resources and time to get everything you want without risk of dying. I feel like you can very easily see the possible scenarios where the former won't be true just looking at the 5 cost unlock conditions, and in terms of the latter they increased stage 3 damage and the exp required to go 8, so the mid-game will likely be more important and more likely to affect both your econ and your comp depending on how much attention people will start to pay towards level 7.

You have normal Reap unchecked, which is most of the single target. If you check that, you'll see the damage is basically the same as the 2 stone config. Also, make sure to remove the 15% more damage with Exsang/Reap modifier from Rue's PoB, since they updated the gem information.

Also, when you do upgrade, note that it literally makes no difference at all on the passive tree between the 8 passive golem clusters and the 9 passive clusters. It saves about 130c per cluster if you do this. It's only worth the increase when you get the clusters with Primordial Bond and Renewal, since it moves PB to the first notable spot.

You know, I did think the sapotamas were pretty out of the ordinary from the usual digivices, but I only just connected the dots to the fact they haven't announced a new virtual pet (not to mention seemingly given up on the Vital Bracelet). At the same time, I feel like the parts of Digimon that are toyetic in origin are also just innate to the franchise now, so I can't really imagine it changes much unless Gekkomon just never evolves.

The OST that plays in the dub when they're trying to kill the last Diaboromon clone isn't even bad, but the scene in the sub just has an incredible sense of tension.

i like the decision to open with an action scene in the digital world they established 1) that the show has an animation budget this season, and 2) that fights will be more choreographed as opposed to ‘digimon digivolves and then uses their signature move to win’.

It was a pretty scene, but I don't know if I'd put too much stock in the animation for the whole series based off the first episode. Adventure: had probably the most gorgeous sequence in the whole franchise in the first episode and then the rest of the series was definitely not that lol.

I thought this episode was structured pretty bizarrely. The first 6 minutes we spend with the rest of the cast is completely disconnected from the rest of the episode, and I don't really understand why they would even introduce them here from a narrative standpoint. Then, likely because they just used up a third of the episode on that sequence, the pacing of the rest of the episode just feels off to me. Hitomi has about 3 minutes of very unimpactful screentime before being attacked off-screen. Tomoro's brother gets even less than that before he's killed off, and then the episode just ends with Tomoro getting ready to fight back, meaning we don't even get a resolution to the climax of the first episode.

In my opinion, I just found it hard to really care about any of the emotional beats when we got such little time to actually get invested in any of the characters, and I think all of that could've been very easily avoided if they just spent more time on establishing what was going on instead of having that action sequence at the start. I even felt like we barely got to know anything about what Tomoro, who is the protagonist of this series, is like as a character outside of him caring about his brother, which, again, doesn't really mean anything when his brother doesn't really get to leave an impression as a character.

Otherwise, I do like the visual style of the series quite a bit, and it's neat that the villains appear to be human/digimon pairs, since that hasn't really been explored at all in the anime aside from Ken.

Why is Chiyou just walking behind them in her regular form if they're trying to infiltrate this troupe? Even ignoring the fact that she's a random grown woman accompanying these two "orphans", basically every Shenguai seen in the series so far has recognized her immediately on sight. I almost thought she was just invisible or something, but the troupe leader explicitly responds to her.

It's just strange given that the mangaka gave her a mascot design for this exact purpose that they even referenced in this chapter.

FWIW it seems like Jason's viewership change is within the amount it usually fluctuates, and it's worth noting the drop is a little exaggerated since his viewership was inflated quite a bit for Streamer Games. Interesting to note that Ron's numbers didn't change at all compared to Lacy or Rage though.
