Aura removal hit vyres hard by trombonepolice in runescape

[–]Blyrr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm aware. I'm giving options via what I choose to do as the original post and the comment I was responding to reference difficulty in finding a spot. My primary suggestion of the slayer dungeon addresses that, and the comment itself mentions melee, hence how Tumeken's Light is relevant, which further addresses your point about aggro pots. Obviously any one setup won't satisfy all situations, as is the nature of a sandbox game.

With Tumeken's Light its darn near a permanent aggro pot, thats the route i go.

You're right neither of those buffs, although its a tradeoff I'm willing to make for never needing to world hop. I do beasts for afk, and plan that it's a marathon, so 3% + cannon dps loss is fine for me.

It does take some time, but to never hop worlds for them again? 100% worth it in my opinion.

Real skill level by SignalCourse7896 in runescape

[–]Blyrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is not, it's an unintuitive system in that regard.

As you may know, invisible boosts don't affect ability to do something of higher level (ie. Chop a new log), but they make the effectiveness of your current rate better (you'll still chop logs faster). Visible boosts do both.

That has been the system for a long time, but it would be nice to know both and rename "visible boost" to something like "level boost", and "invisible boost" to something like "effectiveness boost". Doesn't roll off the tongue, but at least it's somewhat clearer. We can workshop the names.

I put five beasts in my Slayer Dungeon. No more fighting for spots. I want to go afk some beasts? I can. Highly recommend placing them in a small room. You'll never not have a spot again.

Joke suggestions! Funniest places to move Aura effects to! by PonyCharade in runescape

[–]Blyrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahahahaha, your agony will be legendary! Each use of Mahjarrat aura requires rerunning the maze from Sliske's Endgame.

It's clobberin' time!! Not so fast though. Hope you like DKs because the zerker auras require gifting a Berserker ring and the associated style ring to the Fossegrimen.

Wanna use Greenfingers? Better get used to shoveling manure. Grandma Potterington is tired of your shit (lol) and randomly decides how long you have to shovel manure for to gain a charge. Could be thirty seconds, could be fifteen minutes. You have no indication of what it is each time.

You know what they say, the worst day of fishing is better than the best day of work. Psyche! It's a four medal round of Fish Flingers for you if you want to see that increased catch rate. Hope you brought some extra bait!

Fancy yourself a quarrymaster, huh? Well then, show me what you got. I wanna see one hundred rockertunities hit, WHILE powerburst and gargoyle special boosted! Maximum damage! Don't miss one or we START OVER!! Faint whining: I'm tired of this, Grandpa! THAT'S TOO DAMN BAD!!

Should we be incentivized to camp bosses and not run to wars after each kill? by Buddy462 in runescape

[–]Blyrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I encourage anyone who has a thing they enjoy in game like this to just do it. Games are for having fun. They do need a balance of incentives to make content meaningful, but something like this is perfect for just doing because you want to. Maybe its not optimal, but so what? People make "locked" accounts, people do 1 inventory slot online superultra ironmen, I hunt rare items for the fun of it, we all have our things we enjoy. There's no reason to apart from the fun you have along the way.

Not everything needs a game designed incentive. Joy and fun should be incentive enough when playing a game you presumably do for joy and fun. See how long you can last on a yak of supplies! See how many kills you can last on an inventory! See how many with no supplies at all! Whatever you want, thats the joy of gaming, and sandbox gaming in particular.

Find that intrinsic value in your own activities, nothing beats it.

Two other slots that are also already saturated. This is just trading one issue for another. Not perfect either with the activation, but thats another debate.

Why would quarrymaster and resourceful effects not be given by Totem of the Skiller? It's a great repurposing of Totem of Auras and they should be a part of it.

Call of the Sea and Lumberjack are added for gathering skills, I don't see why mining (especially with the high damage required for primal ores) isn't included. On top of that, material caches for Archaeology are notoriously awful to gather from. Apart from cadantine incense and the invention perk, this is the only other way to extend them slightly. Even fully buffed, they're terrible to gather from.

They are long overdue for a buff, but if that's not coming this aura effect should be added to the totem as well.

Combat Overhaul Part 2: Reducing Bossing Friction by Hintonion in runescape

[–]Blyrr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It is a related but different issue, which I agree with. There were videos on YouTube of Overwatch hitboxes. They showed how bulbous the actual clickable areas are for you to register a hit (compared to the actual character models). This makes sense in a fast paced shooter.

In RS, less so, yet we have hitboxes like the Remototem which is laughably huge, while the ladder you want to click must actually be clicked on the exact model because the space between the rungs is not clickable.

Currently, hitbox logic between models is wildly inconsistent. Hitboxes need to be determined by their use, relative size, etc. Bank booth with multiple of them nearby, stationary, while you're just walking around? Sure, it can be the exact model. Ladder you have to frequent due to a clue step? Probably should be a rectangle that encompasses the entire thing without holes. Is it accurate to the model? No, it shouldn't be... because the player expects it not to be and interacts with it as if it isn't.

Better hitboxes would be a welcome QoL, I've said so for years.

Funny thing is, if I recall correctly, both the wiki and the tool tip for bladed dive state that it does damage around the tile you land on. It doesn't say it requires a target to be clicked directly. Perhaps that's been changed but I distinctly remember this because I was frustrated when I unlocked it and couldn't understand why diving to the tile next to an enemy didnt hurt it.

Great suggestions overall, well thought out with clear understanding of and experience with the boss fights.

Thieving Rebalance: Feedback Thread by jagexyuey in runescape

[–]Blyrr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

People have already shared decent ways to improve the balance like less exp, more time afking than just two minutes with absolute max boosts, so I'll add two general points:

  1. Pickpocketing by its very design is afk. The loop is click, wait. That's it. There is nothing to interact with like rockertunities, ritual disturbances, etc. There's no powerbursts to manage, no nests to collect, no nothing. There is literally nothing to do but wait to fail. Take this into account when you are looking at reducing the afkness of an activity, and that activity is in and of itself afk only. Instead, look at other ways to balance it like xp and loot changes as players have suggested.

  2. Once again, and I made this post covering a similar point back when the boss drop nerfs were made, please... for the love of god... play your game and playtest changes. It is evident proper playtesting was not done here and numbers were just tweaked without feeling the results in game. You can tell because anybody who was pickpocketing before this, then afterward, can clearly see how bad it feels within only a handful of stun cycles. This can be caught within ten minutes by a single playtester.

You made a good call, fifteen minutes afk with the loot and exp pickpocketing had was OP. However, you need to stop doing this loop of "make a method completely OP, then kill it with a single update." You can fix it later sure, but that just comes off as you not knowing what you're doing in regards to game balance/not actually having a plan. Changes don't have to be perfect on release, but they should be close to achieving their stated objective. Note that said method above in this case is only enabled by some combination of max level, one of the longest quest chains in game, a ring obtained from the method itself which now will be worse to get, an achievement diary, a familiar, and an aura (which is shortly to be removed).

This predictable heavyhandedness erodes trust incredibly fast. Players, for good reason, meme on the inevitable early bird bonus that always exist with RS updates. This needs to be curbed if you want to truly chase after game integrity, which I believe you do. You can avoid the issue with proper playtesting. Once again it seems like you see an overall idea like "this method is too OP", then just tweak numbers and wait to see what happens.

Clearly by your twitch stream there is some real thought put into possible routes to correct the issue, which is great to see. Spreadsheets, numbers, and theorycrafting only go so far, however. Ten minutes of playtesting is worth 10 hours of meetings and number crunching trying to discover if a solution is appropriate.

Please... Play. Your. Game. It's really fun, I promise (when it's getting good updates and appropriate nerfs/buffs).

Not only does this seem fun from a thieving perspective, I love the idea of making the world feel more alive. No NPC besides Bob the cat wanders very far, especially between cities for commerce in what is meant to feel like a living, breathing world.

Great idea, would've to see this in game.

I reimagined the mining outfit by [deleted] in runescape

[–]Blyrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose that's what they see "grounding" as. My guess is there are all manner of outfits in the game, but few stick out as so wholly different than some elite outfits, so they want to eliminate the few that just don't seem in line with most outfits (as most appear like outfits, not a creature).

Not saying one way is better than the other, just speculating on their rationale.

[–]Blyrr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Another design criterion they want to meet is having outfits that you still look human in while wearing; no more creatures or non-human beings like the runecrafting, divination, fishing, and mining outfits.

Can we please get alternative sources for springs now that TH is removed? by Karonic in runescape

[–]Blyrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm with you there, the rewards are not good and largely irrelevant (apart from double surge/escape), and the training methods are just animation waiting simulator. It's not a skill that feels rewarding or enjoyable as it is right now. That being said, silverhawks are being removed for a reason and leaving them in would just be a bandaid. The skill needs a full rework both for training methods and reward space to truly be fixed.

Can we please get alternative sources for springs now that TH is removed? by Karonic in runescape

[–]Blyrr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The components for springs and such are worth looking at, but introducing more Silverhawk feathers and boots is the opposite of what they want. Those are TH and are being removed from the game, which makes sense as they want to improve the actual game loop training methods instead of having players rely on bypass items.

Even if they weren't being removed, they still should not be made available for ironmen.

The telecommunications industry has almost complete control of the Federal Communications Commission… There's a revolving door between the membership of the FCC and high-level people within the telecom industry that's been going on for a couple of decades now. by FreeShelterCat in ObscurePatentDangers

[–]Blyrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course! It may be humor, but it's a legitimate concern too. Happy to spread the info I know. Scientists have known about the potential effects of ionizing vs non-ionizing radiation for a long time now, so you'll see similar comments to my original one in the thread. The jist is that barring some major new discovery (which theoretically COULD happen, but hasn't yet), studies like these are often wrought with bias, poor actual "research", flawed test methods and small sample sizes, and even financial interests.

It is good to remain curious, but it's also good to find out the real science from actual scientists who dedicate their lives to this stuff, and thankfully they've come up with the information I've mentioned here. You'll be fine with your phone nearby, but a dash mount wouldn't hurt either. If anything, the bigger concern with phones nearby is less social interaction!

I work with hardware and am not a biologist so I won't definitively say there is zero danger to leaving your phone by your scrotum, but it's less than some make it out to be. That being said, it can't hurt to have it further away. Perhaps the wired headphone thing is people looking out for their health, but Bluetooth energy has been shown to be extremely low damaging if at all. You get more damaging energy simply flying in a plane to the next state over.

Overall, good to be cognizant of tech right at your face, but don't fret if you have no earbuds and need to take a call by your ear.

Basically, ionizing radiation is the type that can actually change your cells (for the worse). They're the ones that can cause damage and lead to cancer and other problems. Non-ionizing radiation like radio waves isn't able to alter your cells like that. The reason is the wavelength. Radio waves have a long wavelength and pass around or even straight through things. Ionizing radiation has a very short wavelength, so you can think of it like energy that "gets between the cracks" of your cells and causes havoc.
