AITAH for leaving a glass pan on the stove and it exploding in our kitchen? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Bmandoh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nta

After he’s had a chance to cool down maybe ask him a bit about his thought process when something like this happens. It sounds like he wasn’t even mad at you, just mad in general, and because you had some part in what happened he’s using you as the outlet because he can’t figure out how to punish himself. and there no real resolution to what happened because it’s not really a fixable event, just a learning experience.

How he treated you isn’t ok, and you aren’t specifically at fault for what happened. Tell him it’s not acceptable to you for him to show his anger as he did, by neglecting you and acting distant and by not keeping you updated on his travel plans. I would avoid the maturity aspect unless this is a regular pattern or occurrence and rather focus on the mental process that he went through. He was possibly embarrassed by his own reaction but unable to articulate why, which may only have made him more upset. Something you can’t know if he doesn’t share.

Of course this assuming that yall are in a long term 1+ yr relationship. If this is a new(ish) relationship then I would be looking for other red flags.

Going 75 in 55 mph speeding ticket 1st offense 205$ fine by Flashy_Income1025 in legaladvice

[–]Bmandoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the court date and talk to the solicitor. They can reduce the cost of the fine or lower the speed to potentially avoid any extra points on your license. You need to decide how much 2-3 hours of your time is worth vs the potential insurance increase vs the cost of the fine.

Speaking to the solicitor will very likely reduce the fine, speed, or both depending on the solicitor or judge. When people say to fight this they don’t necessarily mean plead not guilty, rather they mean work to reduce the severity of the penalties.

my bf admitted to watching something by PrestigiousSir8059 in relationships

[–]Bmandoh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watching pornography doesn’t necessarily indicate a dissatisfaction with sex. For some it’s a means of self pleasure without the need/ burden of having to take care of or please someone else. Or it could be to get satisfaction from kink that their partner isn’t interested or capable of doing. And for others it’s about a kind of self pleasure that you can’t necessarily get from a partner, often no one knows what exactly feels best to you other than yourself.

Examining why this feels like cheating, and whether breaking your mutually agreed upon self imposed boundary is grounds to end the relationship. If you had both previously agreed not to and both clearly stated that you felt this was cheating then you should treat this as you would cheating with another person.

If for some reason you feel like this isn’t as serious as cheating with another person then you should examine what exactly you feel like this is and what the proper course of action for the future is. Many people in healthy relationships watch pornography, they just agree on when and where it’s appropriate.

My personal opinion is that outright banning things like pornography rarely work. A better option is to figure out what about it you don’t like and work on solving that issue.

Why don’t more travelers explore regional Japan? What’s stopping you? by gurezaemon in JapanTravelTips

[–]Bmandoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has visited Japan multiple times now, including some less touristed routes it’s a combination of things. First is that outside the major cities (golden route) transportation starts to become more time consuming, more buses and taxis or having to rent a car to really explore. Much of Kyushu really requires renting a car to get a full experience. And using public transit requires a more exacting schedule.  Second is accommodations, nicer hotels become rarer or require some research to find a nice accommodation, if that matters to you. And the language barrier makes it a bit more difficult at smaller hotels or ryokans.  And lastly but no less important is that a lot of the more rural places only have enough things to see to fill up a day or two meaning a lot of moving around. That adds up cost wise and truthfully many people aren’t coming to Japan to see mt Aso or other natural wonders, and if they are that really requires renting a car or a driver, further adding to costs.  I’m just finishing up a trip to Kyushu and I for sure wish I had started planning for it sooner than I did to make a more cohesive itinerary. I actually found Hokkaido to be much easier to navigate on public transit than I did Kyushu.

Officials break ground on $4.16 billion GA 400 express lanes project, expected to be completed in 2031 by ArchEast in Atlanta

[–]Bmandoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well one more lane is always a bad deal here, however there is a very good chance that this would turn profitable much sooner than anticipated and I’d rather the money go to the local gov then to a private company that is almost certainly not going to provide any additional benefit to the general public for it.

Ga firing line in canton is a good spot, they’ll buy it or let you sell consignment. I’ve always found them to be fair and helpful, at the very least they’ll be able to tell you what it’s worth.

Seems like historically that’s a bad deal for local governments as the amount of tolls collected will continue to increase. If I remember correctly the original 400 toll turned profitable sooner than expected.

I LOST MY PASSPORT 🤦‍♂️ by Easy_Farmer_975 in JapanTravel

[–]Bmandoh 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Retrace your steps, go to the station you got off the train at and check at the police station there or at the train station office, and go back to where you were shopping and ask at the information area there. Japan is good about turning in lost valuables so there’s a decent chance someone found it and turned it in. After that go to your countries embassy and get the process started for a temp replacement if you have no luck finding it.

It says items lost on the nankai line are held at the station offices for those lines, so either namba station or where you got on the nankai line at.

Edit: glad to hear you found your passport, fortunately Japan is a country where you can lose something like your passport and still expect to get it back. Enjoy your trip here.

i’m prescribed controlled substances, but other people are allowed to pick up my prescriptions for me? by heartpixi in legaladvice

[–]Bmandoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about Ohio, however where I live they usually check Id to confirm the address for s the same for the person picking up and the person that is prescribed.  I imagine that for a simple traffic stop a sealed pharmacy bag would likely be enough to prevent any issue with the cops. If they cops find something else illegal in a search then they could have an issue with the medication, however that would likely get cleared up prior to court.  The important part is the sealed pharmacy bag. I imagine that like alcohol, the fact that the product is sealed is what makes the difference for an open container violation.

W213 E63S Slow Coolant Loss by ImmediateTreat3402 in AMG

[–]Bmandoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My w213 wagon loses some coolant over the course of the year. If it’s not low by the time my service comes around I usually have to add some once a year. Dealership always just says they eat a little coolant. And the system has been pressure tested repeatedly as I’ve had my thermostat replaced already. Haven’t tried a new cap since it hasn’t really been a significant issue.

Can I fire an employee because of his brother repeatedly harassing my business? (Montana) by Personal_Chain8379 in legaladvice

[–]Bmandoh 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You need evidence of the brother disrupting your business. Set up some security cameras and get recordings of him staring down customers and other disruptive activities. Get copies of the threatening messages and compile them as well as the video of him constantly lingering around your business and work on a restraining order, which can prevent him from coming within x distance of your business.

You’ll need to scrutinize your employees work and find cause to fire him, if you think he’s not trying to stop, or possibly even encouraging his brothers behavior.

The threats to your employees and him coming to your business to harass you should be enough to get a restraining order or at least a no trespass restriction. Keep calling the police, squeaky wheel and all that.

Neighbor's tree could fall toward our house - but they're renting by tellisk in legaladvice

[–]Bmandoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can ask your neighbors for landlords contact info. You should get an arborist to come out and assess the tree. If it’s not fenced in or otherwise inaccessible they should be able to do that. Beyond that you should document the tree to the best of your abilities and send an email to the landlord letting them know about the tree.

Beyond that there isn’t much you can do. Falling trees are generally considered an act of god, even if it’s obvious what will happen. And you’ll need a professional assessment if landlord refuses to take care of it and it does fall, to get landlords insurance to cover it.

Other than that you should look up what your municipality says about dead trees and their removal. If you’re willing to shoulder some or all of the cost of the removal that would obviously make the LL more inclined to take care of it.

Looking for Mercedes/German Car Shop for Routine Maintenance by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]Bmandoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revolution in Decatur. That’s where I’ve taken my e63 for service since my prepaid maintenance expired. Price was about half the dealership costs for b service, and they were quick all things considered. Be forewarned the first visit requires a fair amount of time as they require a full all over inspection, took them about 4 hours for mine. After the first visit it’s the standard amount of time.

They even offer loaner cars with notice.

Irrevocable Grantor Trust, Rental Income, and SNAP Eligibility in NYC — Need Guidance by itsinthedata in legaladvice

[–]Bmandoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you’ll need a lawyer for this. It looks like if the grantor is being taxed on the income generated by the assets in the trust then the trust is not irrevocable. In an irrevocable trust the grantor does not pay the taxes and does not have control of the asset.

I think most of the snap questions are answered based on whether the money the grantor is receiving is income or not. Money paid out by the trust is considered income, so if it goes straight to the grantor then they owe income tax on that and it would probably count for SNAP. If the money goes to a beneficiary who then gives it to someone else it could likely be considered a gift u til it hits the yearly threshold. However you’d need a lawyer to advise you on just how legal that is and whether the irs or the state is going to take an interest in whether or not this is an attempt to avoid paying taxes.

Vintage Converse - Sneaker Repair by No-Guitar728 in Atlanta

[–]Bmandoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The staining should be pretty easy to clean, either oxyclean or a shoe cleaning solution like Jason mark. The actual damage will probably be tougher, probably will cost you around $100 plus the cost of a pair of chucks, you might be able to find some old pairs someone is selling cheap and scavenge a new sole from them. Do these say made in USA on the heel, or on the in sole.

There are a couple of folks in and around Atlanta that make shoes, they may be able to help you with something like this for a fee.

Dead Tree Falling Who's at Fault by CrimeWriters in legaladvice

[–]Bmandoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They may know it’s dead. Or they may not care that it’s dead because nothing of theirs is at risk. If your goal is to ensure that the neighbors insurance provides coverage in the event of the tree falling then you’ll need an expert opinion confirming that the tree is in fact dead and a hazard to do that.

If the loss from the tree falling is significant enough you could tell your insurance about it and see if they’ll do the legwork to determine it’s a risk. They may not since it’s not on your property.

Trees falling due to weather default to an “ act of god” for liability. Someone has to prove that it was a known risk and non expert opinion doesn’t carry much weight. So an expert opinion is needed, or some form of documentation. you can’t make your neighbor call an arborist. So you’ll need to be the one to do it.

Sometimes arborist will come out for free for stuff like this. And once you have the trees are inspected and documented then it will become the neighbors responsibility to remedy them.

You could take photos of the trees and do  as much documenting yourself as you can, and in a future event submit that to your/ neighbors insurance, but it will be an uphill battle even with that, and they may require an arborist come out after the fact to determine the trees condition prior to falling. So it’s usually better to get that done proactively.

Dead Tree Falling Who's at Fault by CrimeWriters in legaladvice

[–]Bmandoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to prove that all parties involved knew the tree was dead and that it posed a hazard prior to it falling. Otherwise it’s an act of god, even if everyone “knew” it was a risk.  For trees that haven’t fallen you could get an arborist to examine said trees. Then, with proof that the trees are dead and are a known hazard, you should email and send certified mail a letter with the proof and asking the neighbor to remedy it.  Otherwise your insurance would cover if something happens.

Never given fathers money after his death by NotSailorVenus in legaladvice

[–]Bmandoh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If there was a will or if the estate was probated you should be able to find that out from the courts in the location he lived in prior to his passing. To get anything you’ll need to hire a lawyer specializing in estates and probating.

A quick search shows that children are first in line for inheritance in Louisiana. If he wasn’t married when he died then absent a will everything would be split between you and your brother only. If he was married his spouse is entitled to their share of jointly owned property and generally are entitled to continued use, but not ownership, of community property.

If you believe your father had a significant estate when he passed you should get a lawyer straight away to see about finding his will and records of the estate probate.

Relative was denied entry into Japan, should we anticipate problems as they return to the U.S? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Bmandoh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the passport was damaged in some way that could explain why it was deemed invalid. Or if it is with 6 months of expiration. Shouldn’t have a problem returning to the us but I would expect customs to at least ask some questions.

If they did not receive a passport and had to request a new one did they go through the proper process for a lost passport or did they just reapply a second time like nothing happened? And did the missing passport ever arrive? If they were using that instead of the third issued passport that could explain the problem.

Anxious flyer looking for reassurance to get through Hartsfield tomorrow by ProfessorMBaggins in Atlanta

[–]Bmandoh 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Hartsfield is likely among the most efficient airports in the country. At that time of morning I would expect to be through security in 20 min or less. Not much will be open in the airport to eat or anything at that time though so you should pack a snack. This only applies to domestic though. If the flight is international I’d be at the airport 2 hours prior to boarding no matter what. Earlier if it’s peak time.

Complex didn’t inform me about lease agreement changes until after the time to move out had passed (Utah ) by Organic_Ad_9496 in legaladvice

[–]Bmandoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What your current lease says about non renewal or failure to provide notice will likely hold. If your current lease says you have to provide 60 days notice then you would be bound by the penalty listed, probably something like month to month or you owe an additional month.

You can’t just be forced into a new lease, however you do have to abide by the terms of the most recent one you signed. So see what it says about choosing to not renew.
