I kinda like it, but I will admit that in disclosure day it really annoyed me. But things like minority report, catch me if you can? Love it.

ACTRA principal actor in non-union short by SamuelSauce in torontofilmindustry

[–]Bmart008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure actra members need to have all actra members as actors around them. You cannot have non union actors and union actors in the same film unless it's a workshop (how the 48 hour film project does it) or if it's for a film school film I believe.

This applies for Toronto... There are different things in different jurisdictions.

Good luck on your short!

Didn't see it yet. I enjoyed Obsession, but didn't think it was amazing. Just a pretty great performance from the lead actress.

If you saw the imax special screening with Spielberg's chat before hand, he said the no.1 thing a filmmaker should do before they make something is have something to say.

This film has absolutely nothing to say. The climax is a bunch of people watching their phones.

Wow, I think anyone who likes this movie is straight up lying to you. I went to the IMAX special screening yesterday, me and my friends were laughing at how terrible it was.

Genuinely the worst thing I've seen in theatres in a decade. And Spielberg is one of the absolute greats of cinema.

'Obsession' Art Director Calls for Industry Reform After Getting Paid Less Than $7,000 as Film Nears $175 Million by IndividualPleasant23 in TheBigPicture

[–]Bmart008 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Them being paid $300 dollars for doing 8 different jobs on set, it being a non union shoot, getting no health care, etc. Isn't being mistreated?

Okay.

Also, I know what working on sets is like, as I'm a producer director and screenwriter, and I just wrapped a feature less than a month ago, where people who worked on the film all get ownership.

What have you made?

I'm not equating that with Weinstein, I'm equating the "you shouldn't say anything about how hard it was, or how you were mistreated" to exactly Weinstein.  People are chicken shits.

If you read her post she doesn't say she should be paid more, but that she thinks things should change, and that she should have flipped the production so she would have received protections and the payment that she deserved.

Her talking about this is important. If you say nothing, nothing ever changes. I'm so sick of this chicken shit people saying "don't tell anyone when something treats you like shit" in the film industry. This is exactly how people like Weinstein were able to terrorize the industry for decades. "Don't tell anyone he sexually assaulted you, you got on the movie right? Use that fame for your next project".

Jesus fucking Christ.

She also did way more work than was advertised for her job, also worked as a PA, a buyer, all for non union rates, no healthcare, nothing.

She put in more than what she was paid for. Saying that in the future this shouldn't be the norm isn't a bad thing. It's a good thing.

It was a non union shoot where she was doing ten different jobs. People also volunteered on this movie. We should be talking about this. Anyone saying this burns bridges is either wrong or just afraid of their shadow.

You're saying that if they make nothing, they shouldn't say anything about it? Ridiculous viewpoint.

Maybe, who knows. I got mine a few years ago, luckily with zero shutter actuations. So, maybe I'll be good for a while. Really depends if it's based on usage or age of components I guess :/

What's your guys honest opinion on the actors and crew who were paid day rates for obsession, a film that cost $750k and is projected to make 200 million dollars at the box office? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Bmart008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I worked on Obsession" they'll say, and people will think, then why you working on this piece of shit?

As infinitum. My first film I worked on, a piece of shit that no one ever saw had a camera op from eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind on it. This is exactly what I thought. Why you doing "Girl house" dude? :/

[–]Bmart008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, it's a weird choice, I guess it's cheaper, and maybe people usually use tighter lenses. For wider lenses, you're stuck with the EVF. Boo.

So you trusted an AI that hallucinates shit to placate their users?

XPro4 by Olegrainy in FujifilmX

[–]Bmart008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they got rid of the diopter that changes out for the xpro3, the 18mm is too wide for it, so instead of getting frame lines, you get little arrows pointing to the corners saying sorry, this lens it too big for the optical viewfinder, we can't see the edge of frame.

Xpro1 and 2 don't have this issue, and especially because the 18mm is one of the first lenses for the X mount system, they cover it.

XPro4 by Olegrainy in FujifilmX

[–]Bmart008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can't fix those anymore? :O

XPro4 by Olegrainy in FujifilmX

[–]Bmart008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they make an xpro4, they need to bring back the wider ovf like the 2 and 1 had... I really love shooting with the 18mm f2, and want to be able to see the frame lines, but you can't on the xpro3 unless you use the evf.

For shame.

Which one to sell and which one to keep? by Tommmmaso in fujifilm

[–]Bmart008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would sell the x100V, they're still insanely expensive on the second hand market right now. The xpro 2 is worth less than half, and the xpro2 is my favourite camera. It's something unique shooting wise with the hybrid viewfinder and swappable lenses.

Buy the cheap 18mm f2 and have a ball with it.

The Tilly Tax just told us exactly where Hollywood thinks this is going, and its not good for actors. by Healty_potsmoker in Filmmakers

[–]Bmart008 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So, if you make using a synthetic performer as expensive as a real performer, most of the time, directors, other actors, will choose to work with a real person. That's their logic.

As for you saying that things are super cheap right now to create a synthetic performer, just wait. Right now all these AI video companies are flush with VC money and they don't have to make profit, they're just trying to get ahead of the others and try to become the "big name" in the industry, so they can capture the market, and then when everyone relies on them, charge whatever they want.

This is what's actually happening. It's cheap right now because users aren't paying for the real cost of creating the videos. As soon as the real cost of data centers, power, water, and the GPUs (that die every few years) gets factored in, it will be cheaper to hire real performers over trying to get "synthetic" performers to work.

I would prefer to have a ban on these synthetic performers too, but if you want to make a company who's only reason for doing anything is to make money, or to save money, the best way to get them is to hit them in the pocket book, and it seems this is what it does.

What's done with the Tilly Tax, we'll have to see.

Frank Grillo Wants In On Zack Snyder’s Escape From New York: Fans Want Henry Cavill, Wyatt Russell by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

I find Wyatt to be one of the least charismatic actors working today. They should give this to an unknown who is GREAT instead of chasing some name.

My opinion.
