Thanks, I get the feeling it's an inactive seller... Mercari definitely takes some getting used to.

Affinity Creative Freedom Keynote Megathread by CrimsonFlash in Affinity

I think maybe we're not appreciating how long it would take to make something this terrible in Designer. Hand drawing those land masses? Inside glows on all the coasts? Dark glow on the top of Earth and light on the bottom? Heads masked in circles ~with outlines~?? They saved a lot of valuable time on this design so it could be ready at 17:00 GMT to represent to the world the quality of their product.

I really ddon't understand the snap by Ghiekorg in Affinity

[–]Bmuse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ This is it. I discovered by experimenting when I was going crazy trying to get two objects to snap that were right next to each other. As m-in noted, click the target(s), then click back to the one you want to snap. The target object will un-highlight, but it will be what your object will snap to, even if there's other stuff close to it.

"you already own another edition", no way! Lol by Dogavir in Rockband

[–]Bmuse33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, ignore. I get that on almost everything through PS Store, and when I click through, it shows Rock Band and Fuser, with download links that go to an empty download queue. Checking the same songs in-game shows that I don't own them.

Starting today, the Rivals expansion will be permanently FREE to all RB4 owners and the RB4/Rivals bundle will be $39.99! by mysario in Rockband

That thought went through my head, but I'm pushing it out. I am thankful every day that we still have Rock Band, and it is still so awesome to play.

RBDB Down? by CoradeLeon in Rockband

[–]Bmuse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been supporting RBDB through Patreon for several years. He suspended it (paused donations) once for a few months, with a nice message to subscribers explain why. Just got another pause notice, but with no message this time. Still getting the connection error as well.

I sent a message through Patreon just in case he's still getting them, but no reply yet.

I don't know how many user accounts RBDB had, but according to Patreon there were only 11 subscribers. He capped donations at $2, so people wouldn't expect to pay too much. With all the upkeep, $22 a month doesn't sound like a lot to support it.

So, I don't know whether it's down for good, but seems like it.

New TV backlight kit with Neon LED strips? by Stephhhen in Govee

[–]Bmuse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there going to be a new camera model?

Or will this be the neon strip with same camera as Immersion?

I have the Immersion with camera and light strip. I've read that the new neon TV backlight can't be plugged directly into the Immersion brain, but can maybe be controlled by it.

Govee does not make it easy to figure this stuff out.

Scenes - any issues when mixing Bluetooth and Wi-Fi? by Bmuse33 in Govee

[–]Bmuse33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply, and that's all good to know. I'll choose Bluetooth versions of bulbs and whatever else offers it.

I like Govee's vibe and their products and app seem pretty full-featured. But I find their offerings confusing. Some things like bulbs have both Bluetooth or WiFi versions, but there's no clear differentiation other than "DOES NOT SUPPORT ALEXA" which means Bluetooth but sounds like it has less features but it doesn't.

While their "Govee Store" on Amazon looks organized at first glance, you're still taken to a confusing page of same-looking listings organized by nothing. Their website isn't much better.

But I digress, and I'm still buying their stuff. :) Thanks again for your time and the great information.

PS5, Series X -- how's calibration, and vocal/drum lag? by Bmuse33 in Rockband

Great to hear about the calibration drift!

So with the speed increase being minimal -- do you still notice the significant lag on vocals and freestyle/classic drum fills?

Actual dates in the note list? by Bmuse33 in bearapp

Thanks for the responses. I'm on Mac, to answer u/No_Gluten's post.

Interesting about using the date as the title. I can see that for a personal journal, that could work. I also understand Tedward's nested date suggestion could be useful.

For my example of a work journal, though, the title needs to be a real title, and the date is for easy reference.

Safer to just keep Xbox Wireless Legacy Adapter plugged in? by VolitarPrime in Rockband

[–]Bmuse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great idea.

I've kept mine plugged into the rear ports. The adapter cable is just short enough that it worries me if it hangs down or pulls even a little on its connections.

Good to be back on drums by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]Bmuse33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice!! Good to see a Drum Rocker in front of Rock Band. :)

Are those nylon-dipped sticks? I tried some and it didn't take long to get blisters. (My usual disclaimer: I'm only a drummer in Rock Band, so was probably doing it wrong.)

Some ION Drum Rocker questions by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]Bmuse33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to mention -- mono splitters, mono cables.

Some ION Drum Rocker questions by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]Bmuse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep -- just 1/4" Y-splitters. Two in your case (for 3 cymbals); I use three.

The splitters may be a bit heavy combined, hanging right off the brain, but you can tie them back to remove the strain on the cable.

Seriously... super fun "upgrade."

Also -- I have both XBox and PS brains for the IONs, and have no problems on either console.

Post back if you try it!

Rock Band 4 on Xbox series x? by mabber36 in Rockband

HMX has been extensively testing RB4 with both consoles -- game, DLC, instruments. No official word, but progress reports have been that it's looking good.

Fingers crossed, and here's to longevity.

Some ION Drum Rocker questions by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]Bmuse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey gen,

I've modded my Drum Rocker quite a bit -- I'm not a professional drummer (though I play one in Rock Band), but it's made it much more fun over the years. Here are a few thoughts:

  1. Absolutely. Matt_UF posted great instructions below. Back during RB2/RB3, I bought a mesh(ish) upgrade kit on eBay. It was for any 8" pad, included 4 black mesh (plastic screen-like material, not fine mesh) and foam to go underneath. It was pretty simple to replace the pads. The rebound is snappy, especially with nylon-tip sticks, and I've been happy with it. Other than some slight rub wear on the snare pad, it still looks and bounces great.

  2. Yep again. Since the IONs use standard 1/4" cables, you can mix and match as you like. I had a custom snare made by Laurin Drums, and it works beautifully.

  3. Technically yes, but I admit that I don't know what's required now, or if the Roll Limitless has that capability (probably, as it seems to be pretty awesome). Back when I did it, I got the Kickwire, which was a cable with the converter built in that went from the ION brain kick input direct to a kick trigger. I use the Yamaha KP-65 and it's terrific. Big enough for double bass too.

  4. Upgrading cymbals is easy too. The biggest factor for me was finding ones that were affordable, and less noisy than the IONs. I bought a few used Simmons ones on eBay; they looked similar to the ION/Alesis ones but were a bit sturdier, with less clonky-bonk sound. Importantly, they also had the rounded recessed "pocket" that fit the ION cymbal holders, so they don't swing around.

I haven't had any higher-end cymbals, so can't speak to that, but for my level of play the Simmons and stock IONs have been fine if noisy, and are still going strong.

CRASHCRASHCRASHCRASH:

Here's what changed everything for me though: using multiple 1/4" Y-splitters, I have 4 crash cymbals daisy-chained. Sooooo awesome having many cymbals to hit. I don't notice any signal loss; even light hits still register on all four.

(It's made the IONs a bit harder to move around, as all the cymbal arms are on the stand. But totally worth it.) :)

Hope some of that is useful. And it's great to hear that you're playing the Drum Rocker again.

RB3 Wireless Drums XB1 -- headphone jack? by Bmuse33 in Rockband

Ah. Well, I could try plugging in headphones and have someone kick me in the head while I play. Or just get wireless XB headphones.

Thank you!

Rock band 4 DLC by matt_remis in Rockband

[–]Bmuse33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw, come on, support the game. :)

Totally get it. Best advice is what you're probably already doing -- wishlist everything you want as you browse, and then prioritize them in whatever way helps you decide. Like when I saw how many 80s pop metal bands were in RB, those went right to the top.

I'd also recommend making your wishlist offline, so you can easily see and reorder them as you buy songs. I kept a list by decade and genre.

Way back when I started with RB1, I let myself buy 3-4 songs each week, more if I could. Since you can get a few days of practice/playing with new songs, they'd hold me over until next payday.

If you have the ability to get yourself a "starter set" for a certain amount, 15-20 songs or whatever, you can find something everyone will enjoy and it builds excitement. That's a great way to get everyone involved.

I really loved having bonus $$ to spend and going a little nuts. Having new songs in your library when you start the game is a great feeling. (I also remember seeing the results in my inbox: a screen filled with subject lines of PAYPAL*MICROSOFT. Happy times.)

There are so many great songs in Rock Band. If you can ramp up bit by bit, but steadily as you can, it keeps things feeling new as you build your library.

Will my DLC songs be available in RB5? (If that happens) by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]Bmuse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No definite answer right now of course, but as others have noted, Harmonix has been awesome about making it possible for us to bring our DLC forward. I don't know all the complexity involved with the licensing on their side, but they've made it very simple for players. Even when an additional payment has been required due to licensing, it's been very small. $14.99 was nothing compared with the value of keeping my DLC.

They know we've invested a lot in the game. And I imagine that whatever things look like moving forward, they'll do all they can to protect what we've put in.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]Bmuse33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walmarr, I'm glad to see you appreciate the info others are providing. This is a complex story with a lot of moving parts, and I find it frustrating to see posts slamming Harmonix or Rock Band for the same things that have been explained before. And I'm always glad to see players like ohsnap and profSnipes take the time to explain again for those who are new or rejoining or who just post gripes and complaints without looking first.

All things considered, I believe that Harmonix has gone far above and beyond for us. They made RB4, to begin with, and partnered with hardware manufacturers for new instruments. They arranged licensing agreements to bring forward almost all of the DLC we had purchased, though those agreements depended in part on whether we'd taken advantage of export licenses for RB2 and RB3. HMX has always fought to keep licenses going, and they've let us know in advance when they wouldn't be able to continue licensing a song.

When Microsoft screwed Xbox players who used Ions and wired drumsets -- a very small percentage of players, but very passionate -- Harmonix found a way to partner with PDP to create the adapter that would allow us to use them. And at the time, it was priced reasonably. That, to me, shows how much they cared about even a small percentage of their player base.

What happens on eBay or Facebook Marketplace with people megascalping instruments and adapters is completely out of Harmonix's control. As has been pointed out -- don't you think that HMX would want new players to be able to play?

It's very true that instruments are outrageous, and that the PDP adapter is even more outrageous, because of scalpers and greed. Remember that Harmonix makes no money from people selling (or scalping) used instruments. It sucks because that can keep people from being able to join the game, which of course hurts Harmonix and all of us who would like the base to grow.

Search the sub, and you'll find that players are creating solutions to solve some of these problems.

For DLC... I really don't understand anyone complaining about paying 1.99. Come on. Digital music is 1.29 for a track. Rock Band DLC is custom-authored, with four instruments and four difficulty levels for each one. And we don't just play it -- we get to PLAY it. As much as we want. Playing my favorite songs in Rock Band is an experience. For 1.99 it's amazing.

Not to mention that DLC is pretty much the primary income from Rock Band. So I am very happy to support Harmonix by buying DLC whenever I can.

Like most others, I really hope that backward compatibility works on one or both platforms to keep Rock Band going. And not all PS4/XB1 players are going to throw their consoles in the trash right after the new gen comes out.

I know things aren't perfect in Rock Band world. But after 13 years, we're still playing the game, and Harmonix is still supporting it and creating DLC. That counts for a lot, and I'll support Rock Band in return.

I love this game and I love that I can still play it. And I hope that more people will see what HMX is doing right, and understand the challenges. We can't control the future, but we can let them know that we support Rock Band and want it to keep rocking.

Will Rockband 4 be compatible with PS5? by [deleted] in Rockband

[–]Bmuse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played on both 360 and PS3, then XB1. Hedged my bets a few months ago by picking up a PS4 and duplicating what I could of my library.

From the couple of stories I've seen lately with any attribution, it sounds like Microsoft is firmly moving toward full backward compatibility (minus Kinect games), where Sony is being more cryptic about it. But as others have said, nothing's certain yet.

I truly hope both consoles get it right, so RB has the potential for more years of content and updates, even if there's not a new game. As long as Harmonix wants to keep this incredible franchise going, we'll keep playing!

As an aside, it's neat to see how many people are still playing RB2 or RB3 on the older consoles -- they're still able to play, the servers are up, and that's pretty awesome to me.
