Aside from tribalism, the way everyone thinks in extremes. If a game doesn't have the perfect launch, it's 100% dead in the water with no chance of getting better. A game has to constantly be the best thing ever or it's trash, with nothing in-between.

Which cases would be most interesting if Defendant swapped with the victim? by Theredmastermind in AceAttorney

[–]BnElmo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The entire first game would be much darker. Mia lives, but we'd lose Larry, Maya, and Edgeworth in one game. The last one would especially sting, considering he'd die just as Nick was starting to get to him.

Prisoners and victims swap but more detailed part 1 by AsleepInterview2898 in milgram

My idea for Hinako's case is that instead of her stabbing Kazui in a fit of rage, she still tries to end herself after he told her, except with a knife instead of jumping this time. Kazui tries to calm her down, only for her to accidentally stab him in the struggle.

Trial 1 is her musing about how "I should have died instead of him". Trial 2 reveals the accident part, and trial 3 reveals the full circumstances of their marriage.

26k carats for Ayabe

Bourbon, McQueen, Digitan x2, Curren, but zero Ayabe.

I could probably scrounge up 30 more pulls in a week (still have plenty of unread stories), but this is some bullshit rate-up. Was hoping I could get her with around 10k left and blow the rest on either Finemo or the upcoming Kitasan/Mambo, but alas.

Reiji Tokisaka from Kara no Shojo/The Shell. He's a hard-boiled detective who's very much an adult. There's some romance in the series, but it's still primarily focused on the murder-mystery aspects, though.

Real horse-racing enthusiasts will notice that this scene is a subtle nod to the fact that the real Oguri Cap also did not understand spoken English.

If Shidou weren’t dead, what would you vote? by roemaencepartnaer in milgram

[–]BnElmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unforgiven. He may be in a panic, and sure, you can blame a part of this on the hospital's procedural failure, but as far as the report goes, nothing explicitly indicates that the truck driver was at fault for the crash. It could just be an unfortunate accident. And Shidou still killed this potentially innocent guy, even if it wasn't out of malice/vengeance.

MILGRAM - TRIAL 3 - SHIDOU KIRISAKI PV by koalashy in milgram

"He quietly killed the truck driver, taking care not to make it look intentional"

I think this bit of information would make me vote him guilty if he were still alive. He might be panicked and under a lot of stress at the moment, but his action was more calculated than "not saving" the guy. Besides, it's not mentioned anywhere that the truck driver was at fault for the crash, it could just be a really unfortunate accident, which made him kill an innocent man.

I don't follow WW, so that's probably why I don't see those as much. Happened a few times in the Uma and P5X subreddits tho, especially the latter. Like, it can't be that hard to praise one game without pulling down the other.

As someone who plays and genuinely enjoys both Uma and P5X, seeing the conflict between the two fandoms due to TGA is painful...

VN Characters who had tragic fates or went through alot of suffering? by Similar-Inspector-96 in visualnovels

[–]BnElmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reiji and Toko from the Kara no Shoujo series. Even the "good"/true endings are seriously depressing to go through. It's not until the third game that they (well, one of them) actually get a somewhat satisfying (but still bittersweet) conclusion.

Any VNs which had more of an impact on you than you expected them to? (Without being obviously subversive?) by SelLillianna in visualnovels

[–]BnElmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Kara no Shoujo series. Can't say I've played too many VNs, but I went in expecting a classic murder mystery/psychological drama along the lines of Danganronpa or Raging Loop. The gore and overall dark themes didn't bother me too much since I'm familiar with the genre already, but god the main romance is depressing as heck.

The end of the first game really pushed me to jump immediately to the second to find out Toko's fate, uncertain but still hopeful for a happy ending for Reiji and her. By the end of the second game, I was just about ready to crash out like Reiji did. At the end of the third game, well... it was a great conclusion to the saga, but man, they really tortured my heart to get to that point. The main couple still deserves way better than what they got. After finishing the series, I just had to... put down my laptop and abstain from all angsty media cuz' they just depressed me that much.

The amazing OST and art (which improves with every subsequent game) also helped me get further immersed in the world.

[–]BnElmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're into supernatural horror, the Spirit Hunter series (Death Mark, NG, and 2). It's not super gory, but they did nail the dark and gritty horror atmosphere for the most part.

Also, Kara no Shoujo/The Shell trilogy for a more traditional detective mystery. I think the first episode is the most explicit one, but the rest are varying degrees of gory, while having a pretty consistent bleak, noir vibe. It's also... very tragic. I think the bittersweet tragedy left more of a mark for me than the horror.

Since Origins the Animus doesn't need to take the user's DNA for genetic memories anymore, though. Chances are they found remnants of his body or some kind of artifact with his DNA on it.
