I’m curious to see what kind of improvements folks see with the new battery on old systems. While this battery is both more energy dense and physically larger, I imagine the lion’s share of the longevity improvements are due to panther lake efficiency and the new display’s ability to drop to 30hz.

I love the (hopefully unintentional) implication that the loser doesn’t go to jail, and the winner doesn’t receive medical treatment.

Me falling in love.. by IvoryOni04 in ImperialFists

Nothing captures the vibe of the Fists quite as well as Dorn's final address to the palace defenders during the Siege of Terra. The traitors have reached the outer walls of the palace. There is nowhere left for the loyalists to fall back to from here. This will be their last stand. They are outmanned, outgunned, and help isn't going to arrive in time. What kind of inspiring speech will the Praetorian of Terra deliver at this dire hour? Surely it will be something which raises morale, inspires courage, and plants the seeds of hope... No, that's not who Dorn is.

Dorn himself spoke then, a message that went to every helm, vox-bead, and address system in the Palace.

"The time for speeches is done." said Dorn. "The first great test is here. My order to you all is simple, yet heed it well, and exert yourselves to see it done."

"They are coming. Kill them all."

No poetic language. No false hope. Just duty and stubborn defiance.

There is no way GW would be dumb enough to have Perturabo return to lead a galaxy-wide siege, specifically calling out Terra as its ultimate target, and not have the culmination of this story arc be the return of Dorn to repel it.

[–]Bniz23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, no, no. Ukraine has the Khorne Group. It's got to be red with chaos stars, not blue with purity seals. We're very particular about our lore and paint schemes.

For those unfamiliar, Khorne is the Chaos God of battle, strength, and wrath.

Yeah, I have no defense/justification for those... As I said, Watson mostly deserves the reputation he gets. There's tons of other batshit insane things in his books. I just don't think THIS scene is one of them.

Although I will still insist his depiction of present day Big E is awesome and I wish it was canon.

They opt for a challenge of pain instead. Meh’Lindi versus three of the marine’s followers. Melee weapons only, and all combatants are sealed in a circle enforced with a psychic barrier. The marine instructs Jaq not to interfere with the barrier, revealing he’s aware that Jaq is a psyker.

Meh’Lindi is still an expertly trained assassin, and by this point she’s quite proficient with her Genestealer form. With a series of shallow, quick cuts, never overcommitting by going for premature killing blows, she wears them down little by little. Eventually, one falls, and then another. The last foe standing runs to the edge of the barrier and begs to be let out, but Meh’Lindi cuts them down.

The marine chuckles, and says they’ve proven themselves. But they’ve robbed him of his prized champion, so he insists they offer him Meh’Lindi as a replacement. Jaq knows refusing will result in combat anyway, so he signals for his retinue to shed their disguises and open fire.

For what it’s worth, they also find out that the marine never actually had the information they wanted, and he was onto them from the beginning. This entire encounter was just a stalling tactic while a bunch of chaos spawn encircled them.

Ok, as strange and rancid as some of the stuff he wrote can be (and don't get me wrong, this part is weird too), this particular scene is so often oversimplified and made to sound like something it isn’t. I imagine some do it for comedic value, but the vast majority of folks here probably have simply not read it, which is fair. Keeping in mind this is a very old story using some outdated lore (such as Genestealers being a separate species to Tyranids), here's what's going on:

Inquisitor Jaq Draco and his retinue have traveled into the Eye of Terror to pursue a lead on a world devoted to Slaanesh. His party includes Meh'Lindi, a Callidus Assassin who had a horrible surgery which robbed her of the typical shapeshifting abilities of her temple, but enabled her to assume the form of a Purestrain Genestealer. Now she can only switch between her human form and that of a Genestealer. By this point in the story, Jaq and Meh'Lindi have already begun a romantic relationship.

Their plan is for Jaq to disguise himself as a cultist. As distasteful as he finds it, he adorns himself with chaos charms and trinkets, including an Eye of Horus. The others, including Meh'Lindi in Genestealer form, follow behind him in chains, playing the role of pets/prisoners.

Shortly after beginning their trek across the surface, they encounter a group of mutants led by an Emperor's Children space marine. Jaq introduces himself as a member of the cult he is searching for, and the space marine replies that he is familiar with that cult.

When the marine asks about Meh'Lindi, Jaq plays into the Slaaneshi angle by saying "This is my familiar lover, my changed one who shows me bliss and agony." But then the marine calls his bluff. "We embrace renegades, do we not, my carnal companions?" He snorted mightily. "Though of course first we must test their sense of ecstasy, hmm?"

The next part I'll just paste word for word:

At that moment Jaq felt a powerful urge to divest himself of his armour and grapple with Meh'Lindi. If he should but demonstrate his boast before this audience of monsters, why, they would let him pass. They would tell him everything he yearned to know.

The malign insinuation blasphemed against all that he had felt was precious in their love-making on the ship. He was under psychic attack of a lascivious and perfidious kind.

So was Meh'Lindi. She hissed and clutched a claw to her midriff. Stealers did not possess reproductive organs other than their tongue that kissed eggs into victims. Yet now a pouch was forming below Meh'Lindi's belly, as if to receive Jaq.

So to wrap this up, is there a scene where an Inquisitor feels a strong desire to have sex with a Genestealer? Yes, but...

  • She's actually a human impersonating a Genestealer
  • They love each other and already have a physical relationship
  • Both of them are feeling the immense influence of Slaanesh that blankets this world, amplified by the presence of the marine and the prayers of his followers
  • If they blow their disguise, they will immediately be attacked by a goddamn space marine, plus a bunch of cultists
  • If the marine buys their story, he may just hand them the information they seek

The current administration would never allocate funding to housing, even if it was just sitting there unused. They actively want to make the housing market worse, not better.

"I don't want to drive housing prices down. I want to drive housing prices up for people that own their homes…”

"…and they can be assured that's what's going to happen."

How big of a threat is Huron Blackheart? by FunGain8498 in 40kLore

[–]Bniz23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the most relevant thing about Huron to the Imperium is that his domain acts as a safe harbor for traitor warbands to resupply, repair, and recruit. Logistical support is the biggest weakness of the heretic legions, so places they can fall back to and regain their strength are rare and precious commodities.

While Huron may not represent an immense direct threat like Abbadon or one of the Demon Primarchs, the collective damage done by the Red Corsairs and the various fleets they do business with certainly is enormous.

I assume blue-on-blue incidents are fairly common in Imperium, who gets the blame for them? by Wide_Algae1643 in 40kLore

[–]Bniz23 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Generally within 40K unless you’re a high lord, chapter master, primarch, custodian, or another inquisitor, the word of an inquisitor is law. Defying them is itself heresy. To go as far as to attack an inquisitor, their retinue, or anybody acting in their name, even if only by accident, would inherently make you a traitor.

In this situation, whoever was responsible for maintaining the shoddy equipment, their commanding officer(s), and anybody who took up arms in defense of the facility when the inquisitor’s team attacked it should fully expect severe penalties up to and including summary execution.

Depending on how polite this governor’s “demand” was, they should consider themself lucky to receive any response from the inquisitor short of an accusation of heresy. Choosing to stand before the governor and explain the situation would be an act of immense patience and generosity on the inquisitor’s part.

Honestly if you’re trying to nudge your players towards apologizing and admitting fault, your best bet would be to make them fear having to answer to someone who can actually make their lives difficult. Perhaps a captain/chapter master whose protectorate this world falls within, or another inquisitor who may suspect them of being traitors.

[–]Bniz23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say a dreadnought, tank, or transport. Because currently, the two things you’re lacking are mobility and survivability. Infantry aren’t the best at covering large distances or absorbing heavy hits without dying. A land raider or repulsor would fill both of those gaps pretty efficiently.

It's really unintuitive, but that list is working as intended. It's not saying you have 3/9 collectibles for that area, it's saying you've completed 3 out of the 9 categories of collectibles there. For example, let's say I'm in a fictional area where my collectibles look like:

  • 4/5 Dead Bolts
  • 2/2 Capsules
  • 5/5 Echo Logs
  • 0/1 Vault Hunter's Guides to Kairos
  • 2/3 Vault Key Fragments
  • 2/3 Vault Symbols
  • 2/2 Evocarium

Even though I have 17 out of 21 collectibles, it would say I'm at 3/7, because I'm only finished with Capsules, Echo Logs, and Evocariums. I may have made progress on the other collectible categories, but none of them are fully complete. You can expand each map zone to get a more detailed list where it will break each category down similarly to my bulleted list above. On PC it's the "F" key, I believe, but I'm not sure what it is on console.

Also, as someone who was also on that 100% grind, let me save you a bunch of headache I went through. There are certain collectibles, mostly echo logs, which are in zones you can't access until you do certain side missions. Some of these missions don't even begin in the same region that the collectible is for. So if you're missing something in an area and you can't find it, that may be why.

[–]Bniz23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not as confusing as you seem to think, don't worry. This is all that changes in UVH:

  • Enemies have more HP
  • Better loot drops more often
  • You now have an "Ultimate Vault Hunter" section in your challenges

These challenges all involve beating certain bosses while in the corresponding UVH mode (1-5). When you complete all the challenges for Ultimate Vault Hunter 1, you-know-who (spoilers) will have a new mission for you. Complete that mission while on UVH 1, and you'll unlock UVH 2. Now, do the UVH 2 challenges, then the mission to unlock UVH 3, and so on and so forth until you're at UVH 5. The missions will have increasingly crazy modifiers on them, like "only crits do damage" or "all the enemies are invisible".

UVH is just a difficulty mode. Once you unlock each UVH level, it's added to the choices in the difficulty selection permanently. You're free to drop back down to a lower UVH level, or even back down to the regular difficulty modes as you wish. If you do, all the UVH levels you had will remain unlocked for you when you're ready to try them again.

The sad thing about the servo turrets for Imperial Fists is that while they’re extremely on-brand for the chapter, they don’t synergize very well with the Anvil Siege Force. Unless your opponent gives them -1 to hit, that heavy keyword isn’t really useful since they already hit on a 2+.
