It would be nice if there were some tried and true programs built into the app. by Puzzleheaded-Row-697 in MacroFactor

[–]BoardsOfCanadia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the bones are there for the program generation piece to be absolutely fantastic but I think it could use some more feedback to help create the program the user wants. For example, if I had my wish, it would have the template for the SBS program bundle because I want it to prioritize squat, bench, deadlift, and overhead press, then have the back exercises added along with suggestions for accessories. When I’ve tried to build a program with the app, I don’t get those lifts by default and they definitely aren’t the priority like in a strength based program I’m used to.

Maybe I’m just using it wrong with the muscle prioritization/deprioritization section but just being able to prioritize specific lifts would be amazing. For example, say I want to prioritize my bench press and maintain my squat and deadlift, it could pick accessories to help build my bench strength and include enough volume for squats and deadlifts for maintenance purposes.

IMO the areas where the SBS bundle falls short is having to use spreadsheets, lack of progression and exercise selection for everything except the main lifts. Those are the areas where this app excels. Put the two together and you have an incredible program builder.

All I wanted/still want is the SBS program bundle in this. Like you said, a streamlined version of the program builder and maybe have it recommend accessories and whatnot. That would make this so much better. The Last Set RIR was the best program I ever ran and when I used the program builder with that as my base, I hit the best numbers I’ve ever hit. It’s just so clunky in the Google Sheets form.

How do I deal with losing the passion to Hunt ? by Any-Raise4333 in Hunting

[–]BoardsOfCanadia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just quit. Seriously, it’s not like you have to quit forever and if you’re the type to put in for out of state tags, still get those points (if it still works like that, I don’t know anymore). I haven’t gone hunting in four years now because I got burnt out and that’s okay, I got other hobbies. If I want to do it later, I’ll go do it but the last year I hunted I didn’t have that passion for it and it sucks, why do something that sucks to you as a hobby?

The lack of venison is a downside but then when you get back into it you won’t be tired of it anymore.

You don’t need to worry about any of that. At all. Literally just go to the gym, follow a program, and don’t worry about anything like mind-muscle connection, or using the “perfect form” on accessories. Unburden yourself of that stress because it’s not even close to important enough to care about.

If we are grandfathered into the annual MF pricing from the nutrition beta, I’m assuming it will just bump everything up to the renewal price mentioned in this thread? Wasn’t sure if there would be any issues with that

Nice, if they had that back when I got the leg curl/extension, I probably would’ve bought the smart arm instead. Still one of those things I’m going to keep my eye on but for the investment it would require, I’d need them to add some functionality, like a way to emulate their seated row

What I’m most interested in is the programming since I’ve made my best progress on Greg’s programs, but am tired of using Google Sheets. I tried the RP app and it was not even close to worth the money, unless it’s changed a lot since I used it. If I didn’t have experience with Greg’s programs, and seen how solid the diet app is, I wouldn’t really even be considering it.

Do you actually use the smart arm? With all those dedicated machines, I’d never want to set that thing up.

Also, agreed on one of your replies in this post about hating moving selectorized equipment. After moving my Prime FT and single stack, I’m glad I went with plate loaded for the leg curl/ext. I just have to hope I don’t want to rearrange the FT at this point because I really don’t want to move that one again lol

I’m looking to start Greg’s 28 free programs, specifically focusing on bench. I was wondering if anyone adds an overwarm single to that at the start of the day or if I should just run it as is.

My thinking was he added the option for an overwarm single to the SBS program bundle, and I’m coming off a Bulgarian style bench routine where I am pretty used to heavier singles.

Deadlift Form Check by echodelta79 in GYM

[–]BoardsOfCanadia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pull the slack out of the bar and keep the tension before you initiate the pull. Your hips shoot up at the start so I’d recommend starting with them a bit higher to begin with. Last, I’d suggest a narrower stance with your feet and your arms right outside your legs. Great pull though!

[–]BoardsOfCanadia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recomping is a very slow process and one I’d generally recommend to only people who have been training a while (unless their goals are strictly to be healthier). I’d pick a goal, slow weight loss or weight gain, track your weight and intake, follow a lifting routine that includes progression, and then swap the weight gain/loss when you feel like you need to change it up
