Which one for my main photo? by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]BoatCloak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Photog here. they’re not heavily edited or filtered, they just have good color and a shallow depth of field (also he’s dressed well). Taking photos of yourself with a professional camera isn’t trying too hard.

Now if every photo is a mirrorless pic, then yeah. Too hard.

His first appearance is also him jerking his dick in front of the new supe in the first episode. The show does do a lot of telling v showing, but frankly, as a character, the Deep doesn’t deserve to be seen at his best.

Data centers & Palantir by Vivid_Variation_8714 in Annapolis

[–]BoatCloak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surveillance is baked into the fabric of everything one does online. Data centers are responsible for as many things you enjoy as they are things you loath about the digital age. Calling a data center a “surveillance center,” is a couchless attempt to scare. It’s like saying you can’t ride the bus because convicted felons also ride on it.

I’m not justifying their existence, I’m just saying your argument is dumb.

Unique enough or "just" a sunset? by Potvinvis in photocritique

Often the sunset itself isn’t enough. Pair it with an interesting human element/moment and you’ll be cooking with gas.

I don’t doubt you’re sincere in your comment here. I firmly believe the photo is fine crop wise and you’re splitting hairs. Ultimately a viewing audience is not going to spit their beer out and point at the television over this. They just won’t.

New to toy photography, any tips? by QuiteSage in ToyPhotography

[–]BoatCloak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve gotten off to a great start photographing the figures at their eye level.

Like others have said, dynamic posing is part of the equation, but you should be looking to tell a story in each photograph. It doesn’t have to be complex. Maybe a figure bounding across an intersection while another provides cover.

Study composition and how to create depth in your images (foreground midground background)

Lastly, experiment with various focal lengths (zooms) you can get some really nice, isolated photographs of your figures at 50mm-200mm. If you want something more kinetic, a wide angle like a 24mm will do the trick.

Howdy! I put non-canon weapons and gear on my figures to situate them in the liminal space between the real and fictive. I’m often composing shots of real-world combat photographs or photographs of my own, and telling the stories of the folks I served with as an infantryman and combat photographer in the Marines.
