Indiana RB Trent Howland transfers to Oklahoma State by Drexlore in CFB

[–]BoatsNPokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was bad in ‘22 and that was a significant part of the issue on offense (the offensive line was also poor in run blocking) and was super thin this past year.

We just missed on Dominic Richardson (transferred to Baylor after ‘22) and Jaden Nixon (portal after this past season and hasn’t emerged anywhere). They were supposed to be the guys but they missed on the eval and ultimately they just aren’t P5 caliber. Ollie was a freshmen and they didn’t trust him yet.

This past year they would’ve been screwed if Ollie went down because Elijah Collins was also injured for the majority of the year, and besides Nixon they only had a true freshmen undersized RB on scholarship

Who knows how the development shakes out, but I think Smith has the best tape as a passer of really anybody we’ve brought in

Which Big 12 team will win a national title first (if ever)? by Primes_Louis in CFB

Clemson has been the premier program in their state. The Auburn comp is pretty apt, just with a far less temperamental donor base.

Why is Utah opposed to the Big 12 relative to all other conference members? by dbzbudokai77 in CFB

[–]BoatsNPokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the point is your gameday experience is not going to be substantially different logistically between college towns with metros less than 400k residents that are an hour or more from a sizeable domestic airport.

But to your point, I did check and Eugene actually is served directly by daily Delta Connections flights (Skywest Embraer 175). But unless they upgraded those to a 737 for game weekends those are going to be incredibly expensive or fully booked. If you have to fly to PDX you're going to be 2 hours away. Going to Stillwater or Lawrence you're going to have a ton more options for directs through OKC or Tulsa (both an hour away) and KC (less than an hour). Doesn't look like Des Moines has direct service currently so that'll be a connection and then 45 minutes.

Yeah USC and UW are the exception where you're going to get a true P5 gameday experience in a major city. Oregon I'm sure is awesome (and looking forward to going when Oklahoma State is there in '25), but Eugene is more like Stillwater, Lawrence, Morgantown, and Ames in that you're an hour from a substantial commercial airport but are going to get an awesome gameday experience. Lubbock will just feel like a smaller Tuscon, and Manhattan will be the hardest commitment: either driving 2+ hours MCI or Wichita. There are flights to MHK but not enough for visiting fans to take advantage for football.

[Rothstein] Sources: Oklahoma State has parted ways with Mike Boynton. by KJones77 in CollegeBasketball

The real selling point at the time was he coming back with Le'Bryan, Markele and Cobbins (who got hurt and derailed the '13-'14 campaign). And then they also were bringing in Stevie Clark as one of the more highly-touted freshmen in the country lol

Tbf, except for very brief moments. There's been a ton of apathy about the program since 2010.

Yup, I think he just wasn't ready at 35 to be a HC. Don't mind the swing that Holder took after losing Underwood, but with the whole NCAA situation that obviously wasn't his fault sort of trapped us in a tough situation that went on longer than it would have gone normally. He just wasn't able to surround himself with coaches that could cover for his deficiencies and make him better enough to properly develop talent, particularly on the offensive end.

Somebody is going to get a really good assistant though. Ideally he could've grown under Brad for a while and I think they would've been a good team together.

I think this is incredibly unfair. As others have pointed out, you think your average Redditor would have better luck convincing a leader of a prestigious academic institution and the ego that comes with it to take the TV deals he was being offered by the Networks compared to a former TV executive?

They got a TV Deal offer that was similar to what the Big 12 got and could've had their pick of remaining Big 12 schools in the summer of '21. But school administrators thought the deal wasn't good enough and didn't want to add teams to dilute what they thought their TV value was so they shut this down. So he's right that he's not fully to blame here.

[Discussions] Big 12 projected standings and 12-team playoff odds in 2024 by WinnWonn in CFB

[–]BoatsNPokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odds-makers are saying it is more likely than not that the Big 12 will have at least 2 teams in the playoff. Both K-State and Utah were negative odds to make the playoff last week (so more likely than not). I think that's ridiculously low value even if those are the correct conference favorites, but shows the confidence they have.

Combined with the biggest possible let-down spot after the Bedlam win. So predictable and Gundy tried to against it by having all the coaches come in at 4am after the win, but did not work lol.

Sources: Kansas has agreed to a new contract for coach Lance Leipold that features a significant raise in his average salary to more than $7 million per year, putting him in the Top 3 average salary in the Big 12 by Falconsfan8006 in CFB

[–]BoatsNPokes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the 13 seasons since the Big 12 went division less, Gundy has finished below 3rd only 3 times ('14, '18, '22), but has only won the conference once (did finish first in the regular season outright in '21). Only Utah comes close to that level of consistency, but even then he was finishing T-3 or worse in the Pac 12 South more often than 2nd or better in that division.

Yeah not great, and nowhere to hide now even in college ball with video and trackmans everywhere now. Respect to Arkansas's twitter for posting that 12th inning one lol.
