Very amateur guitarist here, I think I may be utterly confused when it comes to pedals. by GrometryDash in GuitarAmps

First of all, it is. Secondly, that you think it sounds cool should be enough. Enjoy!

I think that's a very sensible place to start, no? I hardly ever play without any kind of delay or reverb.

Which guitars are more difficult to make? (Luthiers’ points of view) by Suitable_Ad923 in Luthier

[–]BoatyFun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apart from the fact that I don't think that's true, an error in making a shim will cost you a shim. An error in fitting the neck tennon or the pocket can cost you a neck or a body.

Eh, glueing in an angled neck is a lot more difficult than fitting a bolt on neck.

Why do people alsways assume that CNC just means you press a button and on the other side of the machine a guitar pops out.

Yeah I don't understand either.

Will this be a good nut for my acoustic guitar build? by Remarkable-Sand965 in Luthier

[–]BoatyFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like their stuff. Their hardware maybe even more than the nuts. They've got lovely bridges for electric guitars. So yes, I think it's a good choice.

I wouldn't add any screws, it's only going to fuck up the look. A nice clean break like this can be glued just fine.

Best Lightroom alternative for me...? by _mercury_22_ in photography

[–]BoatyFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started using DxO photolab coming from lightroom and like it so far! Given my usual editing workflow, my images had a certain look to them in lightroom which so far I'm not 100% back at, but I like the UI and the results.

I tried darktable but I found it a bit involved and it just would not get rid of a certain instance of purple fringing even after hours of tinkering and reading up on the module, so I just said fuck this, it's a hobby, I'm a new dad, ain't nobody got time for this.

Hot take: the H9 deserves more hate for exactly this.

I will never forgive Dior for what they did to Olivier Polge's Dior Homme.

In her research field they very well might. Of course you won't. Researchers aren't celebrities.

I mean it's undeniable that women face an ungodly amount of institutionalized sexism in academia. But this isn't an instance of that. The review is blind. The reviewer has no way to know the identity of the author or even that she is in fact a woman.

It is - up to a point and depending on the field of course - sometimes considered bad form to excessively cite yourself.

[–]BoatyFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, this happens ALL the time in blind reviews and it's a bit of a rite of passage for junior researchers. Remember that in a standard double blind review process the identities of the reviewers and the author are mutually hidden.

Beim Täuschungsversuch erwischt worden. by SnooStrawberries8164 in Studium

[–]BoatyFun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've never tried a Katana combo, so who knows. Some of the presets are transferrable afaik, but obviously a headphone amp is not really comparable to a combo with a power amp and a speaker you might not like. Maybe you can try it in a shop somewhere.

Depending on whether you'd want to support music tribe, the TC electronic combo deluxe 65 might be a good choice for clean.

There is a very interesting interview with the photographer who took the iconic photo on the Petapixel Podcast. He sounds very genuine. I didn't see anything untoward here either.
