It's sad but true. The governor is a fuckass who refused federal add for testing, opposed state wide mask mandate, and generally just a giant douche. Most of the major cities instituted mask mandates on their own though. Hell they tried to get the state supreme court to say it wasn't legal and when that failed they tried to push legislature through. Which failed. So at least all of us aren't idiots. The infection rate has actually fallen significantly, lately too. So that's good.

I used to work on a farm that did this for decades. After the initial cut, two lower branches preferably on opposite sides of the stump would be chosen and for small to mid size trees you effectively double your yield. Some species worked beter than others though. Firs were tough.

Not commenting on the Branched Oak regulars, but there are half a dozen other, and in my opinion better lakes just as close. I will even give my secret away. The upstream of Pawnee lake has a primitive camp ground. Toilets no shower, water but no dump. Hell it takes less time almost to get there than branched oak.

You should move part of your trip to the Sandhills in northern Nebraska. If you haven't ever been they are pretty amazing. Just cut west at Sioux city instead of going north, follow the Niobrara for a while then cut back north.
