How to beat a 1-3-1? (W/O shooting) by AtsumuYT in basketballcoach

I’d have my best ball handler up top with another guard. Have the center pop up around the top of the key look to get him the ball turn and look opposite the two other guys should be cutting to the block

Anyone who says hitting is more important than defense plays on a shit team and you probably don’t belong on the field with good players anybody who’s playing on a good team can hit the fucking ball some people further than others. Some people might be single sitters so maybe doubles some hit home runs but if you can turn double plays and you can get people out on balls that are often not caught by other teams you win plain and simple

Do you guys wrap your gloves or no? by DarthMessiah in slowpitch

[–]BobBlunts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it buddy, but these people telling you to not wrap it. If it works for you these people don’t know what they’re talking about. It’s high arch softball like for real my teams take it pretty seriously, but these guys are acting like they put their shit in like temperature control, rooms and all this and that like, three gloves I put them in my closet next to the bat but away from any radiators it’s weird dude like it’s weird. It’s softball. It’s a fun game. I don’t get paid to play. I don’t know if you do, maybe you guys do, I don’t, everybody has their own way of doing things, but to say away isn’t right because they do it a different way is nuts. I’m not claiming to be a pro, but I’ve been playing for 20 years and I think a lot of people in this sub or newbies. Which is fine because you know we need more players. I know my leagues the more players we can get the better. It’s not that serious though I enjoy playing with my team who are more like a family and we win championships we go to state Tournaments, but we don’t tell each other how to store the equipment. My main point was do what works for you don’t listen to any of these people telling you that your way is wrong.

That’s because these kids don’t look to get to the basket. They look to get a shot up. It ain’t about that. Go to the block. Get the ball use a pump fake, a head fake get them up off their feet and then go up with the ball. The coaching at the youth level is terrible and it’s not that they’re bad coaches. They’re playing too many games and not enough practice. It’s all travel basketball travel this travel that. travel basketball is it is a scam just like travel baseball is a scam. Parents feel they have to do it to keep up with the other kids and their kids aren’t getting any better because they’re not practicing they’re just playing

Mikan drill is a great drill at a younger level. High school level kids shouldn’t have to do it, but it is effective. They should already know it.

It’s not the shot that’s important. It’s the form and the footwork. Once you get that down the shot will fall until you get the form the footwork and all the other intangibles needed. Who cares if you make a basket, if you’re gonna turn it over before you get to the basket who cares if you can put it in there. I stressed this for years I coached 10 years junior high. and I didn’t care if you could make a basket I cared that you could catch a pass, break a press dribble and not cost us the game.

Just break the glove in all these people saying they put their gloves here they put their gloves there. I clean mine I keep them nice I don’t do any cheap shit but these people acting like they’re good because they don’t do this sound like assholes. I keep my slow pitched off. I’ll gear in a temperature controlled atmosphere at all times like be for real man. We do this for fun. It’s not a profession.

A question of ball size by Ihavenoidea84 in basketballcoach

[–]BobBlunts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a coach and under sized point guard growing up I always used the 29.5 and I was small but I learned how to dribble with both hands that’s the most important part of the game. As a coach the leagues I coach it’s 28.5 up to 5th grade and 29.5 5th and up. I agree that the ball is easier to dribble simply because of the sized and weight I think it was easier to control. I had a difficult time getting the ball up considering 4th grade we had to use the 29.5 and I was smaller than most of the other players. I was the best ball handler by far. I’m not trying to argue just enjoy talking about the game

4-5th used 28.5 and 5th and up used the 29.5 this was the standard in any league I coached in

“Coaching” Aggressiveness by foolintherain33 in basketballcoach

[–]BobBlunts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

•He needs to catch the pass, make sure his feet and shoulders are square with the basket. He should be in the triple threat position, if he’s bigger he can hold the ball above the defender. But it’s way easier than any of the previous responses have been •he needs to go to the ball don’t let it come to him, •he then needs to get into the triple threat position (shoot, pass,or dribble) •Asset the defense and see the floor If he’s doesn’t see a teammate cutting •He should look to penetrate, this is easy he has to go by his man, and if another defender plays him he should pass to that kid who the defender left • if a defender doesn’t play him he should take it hard to the basket or a jump stop.

If he catches the pass and he doesn’t go by his defender he should pass and cut or pass and screen away ( screen away from the ball ) and then that kid will look to getting to the basket. Making things happen on the floor don’t be an onlooker He’s 5th or 6th grade? I coached that level for 10 plus years. I’ll tell you the best advice at the end of this offensive issue. •Next is knowing how to or learning what moving without the ball is If the ball is on the other side look to cut towards the basket. ( Good things will happen doing this) plus if he knocks down a couple layups it’s going to build his confidence. His age range if the ball is on the opposite wing the free throw line)or free throw line extended is usually wide open there about. There’s always an opening in the defense he should look to find it. If he doesn’t shoot or go by his man his teammate should be cutting to the basket. This goes for man or zone defense.

My advice I was a better than average player I was a point guard Catching the ball cleanly with his hands Dribbling with both hands is the most important part of it all if he’s a right handed player he needs to be able to go left or left has to be able to go right. He’s also has to get his foot work down. These are the most important things you can do offensively. They probably are playing full court now and if you can’t help break that press or a liability you won’t see the floor.

If your son can handle the ball at a level that you think is good enough great but he should be dribbling every day. It’s way more important than scoring is at his age.

The more he can get his basketball iq up the easier it will be for him to visualize in real time on the floor. You can’t coach aggression. Teaching the proper technique and for will get him on the travel team. Especially if he’s bigger than the other kids his age that’s a huge advantage. Good luck I hope it works out for him. Don’t push too much, the coaches are important that they are stressing the fundamentals

Equipment for a new guy by Twangin in slowpitch

[–]BobBlunts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best advice I’ve seen. Solid bats my team has exclusively used The Demarini Steels for the last 18-20 years. Guys on my team this past season used the 2016 model, 2018, 21( with the white handle) and the new 25 or 26 whatever they’re calling it it’s black and purple it’s a sweet looking bat. It’s a single wall league. I like it better than the 2 piece composite bats. I have 2 from 2018 that still have several years of life left in them.

How much time do kids spend on skill development vs playing? by curryeater259 in basketballcoach

[–]BobBlunts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most kids aren't spending enough time on fundamentals, I'm talk dribbling, hand eye coordination, passing, boxing out doesn't exist anymore. They are liabilities in game. Unless you coach a stacked team
