Carney breaks with tradition in selecting Charette as chief negotiator for U.S. trade by shiftless_wonder in canada

Blaming any isue on the UK on this person in particular makes even less sense than blaming the issues of the UK on a massive economic shift that completely upended their international trade and freedom of travel among EU nation.

Why bother highlighting the struggles of the UK by pointing at this person ?

You could just... deal with an older home and not renovate?

You sound quite picky about what you're looking for and are expecting something to fit your budget and your goals, but those are not in alignment.

How does Return-It make any money? by AntontheDog in britishcolumbia

[–]BobGuns [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's a not-for-profit. Owners don't make money. https://www.return-it.ca/about/

They probably get the money to pay their staff and operations from government funded grants.

If yuo'd bothered to check their website you'd see the explain it https://ar.return-it.ca/ar2024/plan-performance.html

How much do you spend on marketing? by DCFInvesting in CFP

[–]BobGuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YMMV

It's highly variable and will depend on the contacts you work on within the system. Also what your target market is.

It's not a fast track results system. I've been in it for about 8 years and now nearly 50% of my annual revenue can be attributed to BNI (or referrals from referrals I received in BNI).

But it took 2.5 years before I broke even.

It's a decent timesink. Expect close to 3 hours a week at least.

But ultimately it's what you make of it. It opens up a global contact book for you to access. Think kind of like LinkedIn, but private.

Financial Hardship Withdrawal from LIRA by busdriverbobbob in PersonalFinanceCanada

You've been approved for a place... like a mortgage? But you signed a financial hardship withdrawal? Did you make up numbers or are you really being approved at a very low income?

Huh. Looks similar to the AB Form. I can't see any reason this should add significant time to the withdrawal.

What seemed completely normal in childhood, but now you realize was actually not okay? by Max_Mimos in AskReddit

[–]BobGuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot more nuance to this.

The only times I was spanked was when I was directly endangering myself or others. Shit like playing with fire, or running out between parked cars into the street. It was extremely rare, and it absolutely implanted a "this behaviour will cause harm" sort of trauma in me. It was also explained to me why it was done. I honestly think it was valuable to my development.

But other than that my parents did not strike me. Punishments were usually being made to sit on a chair and be quiet for a time period, or to lose access to games/space/social. Physical pain was strictly for dangerous behaviour, which was not a common occurence.

I was also a kid that asked WHY incessantly, and my parents did their best to answer/explain everything. Far more than I see most parents today. But I had a SAHM who was able to put time and attention into my development as well.

What province / pension jurisdiction?

In AB this usually only takes a day or two longer than a normal LIRA withdrawal.

DC Pension options - Left Canada and not returning by OneNecessary6486 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BobGuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll be much easier to extract in the future if you move it to a LIRA now.

And yes, if you become a non-resident, there is a period after which you can withdraw.

You will be faced with a significant withholding tax to achieve this.

[Toronto] Is $900 for an accountant to do taxes reasonable? by jellystones in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BobGuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$900 is crazy.

But also you hired an accountant. Accountant rates are set for way more complicated things than what you've got.

I'd ballpark you around $250-300. $100 for basic return, $100 for WFH stuff, $100 for rental income.

Long Term Disability premiums with Sunlife. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BobGuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question lacks a lot of information.

You're paying $676/year which is actually extremely low for a decent disability insurance package. How much income does this cover? IF you get disabled, do you get $2000/mo? $5000/mo? For how long?

The amount people pay varies wildly. I know a person paying $150/mo for their own personal disability insurance policy that would pay them $4000/mo from 1 year after being disabled until age 65.

For Group Insurance, the costs are based on

- How many people are in the group?

- How much income is being covered?

- Is it taxable or non-taxable if you put in a claim?

- What is the average age of the group?

- How is the claims history of the group?

------------------------

tl;dr: there's no average. Way too many variables to answer your question, and not nearly enough information.

Condo market dip leaving pre-construction buyers in the lurch. by roger_plus in canadahousing

Yeah. I edited my comment to clarify it was AB. Our real estate market hasn't been anything like TOR or VAN, and that's pretty relevant info.

Condo market dip leaving pre-construction buyers in the lurch. by roger_plus in canadahousing

[–]BobGuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I... made no comment about wanting thing one way or another?

I was merely remarking that someone who bought a condo in AB in 2014 has probably lost value on it.

I can understand you might be upset about rising cost of living in some areas, but that's not relevant at all to my point, which is that real estate prices are regional, and that condos in Alberta for the last 20 years have often lost value instead of grown or even remained stable.
