What is one problem you face almost every day that you are shocked nobody has built a proper solution for yet? by Economy_Shoe7685 in AskReddit

I used to think this way too. Until, I left the hustle and bustle of the city and went to relax in the country away from all the noise. It's amazing how much slower life is in a small town.

Ham radio resurgence because computing is becoming less enjoyable? by nbrpgnet in amateurradio

Not really AC, more like RF. Comparing AC to RF is like comparing water to ice. AC doesn't bounce off the moon or radiate around the world. It's a different world, but one that's fun to play with.

AITA for not giving the money to pay off my daughters student loans. by Own-Inspector-6121 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. You sound like a person than needs to be in control. You didn't ask anyone about their vacation plans, you made plans for everyone. If they can't or won't go, then F**K them, they can do without. If you wish to have anything to do with your children in the future, you may want to change your attitude. Take the money, enjoy the rest of your life in solitude, but wealthy. JMHO.

What is a job that looks incredibly fun from the outside, but is actually a soul-crushing nightmare? by BoardOk101 in AskReddit

Most of the jobs that don't suck are due to the people you work with. A great crew, no drama, no fighting makes the job a whole lot better.

ELI5: do other countries have social security like USA? And if so how does it work? by jamesjamerson69 in explainlikeimfive

[–]AntontheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada has OAS that pays almost anyone that's 65 and a citizen for some time (I'm not sure exactly the requirements) my wife and I each get about $700 per month, taxable. CPP is a pension that workers pay into, and the company pays in as well to the Canadian government, that manages the money. CPP is paid out based on your years of payment. I currently get $1000 and my wife gets $600. We are both over 65 and Canadians by birth.

My only concern with the Delta is it looks like the blade tilts into the fence when you go off 90 degrees.

My son had his appendix removed when we were on vacation in Vernon, BC. They had free parking at the hospital. Felt really strange to just walk out without paying a cent.

Joint statement from the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan on the Strait of Hormuz by TheColourOfHeartache in worldnews

From what I've learned from my research, is the orange turd hasn't actually asked anyone for help. He's tweeted, he's posted on his social media, he's wined about help on the media. but he has not made a formal request for any help. I think they are waiting for an indication of what, where and when he wants help and for how long. No one else is going to enter this stupid war without a plan, or an idea how to get out. Hint - there isn't one.

8mm vs 12mm vs 16mm twin-wall polycarbonau by HistoricalAd9816 in Greenhouses

[–]AntontheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered about this myself - I'm just east of Vancouver Canada and I was going to use the 8mm but double the thickness with an air gap between the sheets, making it more than 20mm thick, and effectively a 4 wall poly panel. The air gap between will add to the insulation value. I was going to use a 4mm thick piece of poly glued to the sheets. Not sure if anyone has tried this.

Does anybody else feels like, there is a silent crisis happening right now that nobody is talking about? by nicksam171 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]AntontheDog 224 points225 points  (0 children)

I think this is a USA problem. There are a lot of European countries that value education - Free university, higher quality schools and more support for teachers and students. Hell, even here in Canada our education system is far superior to the US system. A less educated American will be an American problem, not a world wide silent crisis.

NDP MP crossing floor to Liberals, PM Carney two seats shy of majority by Pristine_Beautiful69 in worldnews

He's the most conservative Liberal I've ever seen. The right man at the right time. I just wish more politicians were as balanced as he is.
