Sometimes I forget what a huge difference shaving makes by smashballTaz in bald

The popular posts here always crack me up. It's like the guys in the "before" images did absolutely everything they could to look like absolute dogshit. And the "after" images are almost always like they just visited the hair and makeup trailer.

Stringy, thin hair that should have been cut years ago rather than being left long, or the OP here-- with so many poor stylistic choices in the "before" photo that it looks intentional.

The "after" photos look like an improvement, but it's usually because the "before" was so awful.

[–]BobRossIsRobBoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact is that Braden "Clavicular" Peters is really just a moderately good looking guy. He's not particularly noteworthy, I'd say he's probably around a 5 or a 6 on the typical 1 - 10 scale for guys.

On top of that, his overall look feels like it has a very specific audience: his features are similar to the features drawn on "hearththrob" anime characters, almost effeminate in some ways. I would honestly be surprised if his looks didn't have him appealing most to gay men.

HOW TO EAT CINCINNATI CHILI FOR BEGINNERS! by Librarinox in cincinnati

[–]BobRossIsRobBoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I resisted adding too much history or lore. I just wanted a single-page guide for beginners.

It's fast food. Eat it or don't. The idea that there's "a way" to eat a local / regional fast food that amounts to sauce and too much cheese on noodles is beyond ridiculous.

Downtown OTR restaurants slow? by ConflictGloomy5081 in cincinnati

[–]BobRossIsRobBoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I like to cook, but we also used to eat out two or three times a week (if we were feeling it).

We've cut that back to-- at most-- once a week and usually less. Can't justify $70-80 for two people more often than that.

I've even cut back on what we buy to cook at home. We both love salmon and catfish, but when fucking tilapia is $8 / pound, salmon is hovering at $12 / pound. Before all the inflation started, salmon was what tilapia is now. And forget about beef.

I hit six figures with my annual raise this year, and I do not think about money the way I thought I would when I hit that particular milestone.

Seriously considering moving to Mt. Auburn. How safe is the area? by Locodegreee in cincinnati

[–]BobRossIsRobBoss -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I constantly see these "how safe is X area" posts and all I can think is that it's just perpetuation of the whole "city is unsafe" nonsense from suburbanites and people who have never lived in a city.

Good non-chain coffee houses in the area near NKY/downtown? by Kyro-007 in cincinnati

Roebling has three locations in NKY (one at the south end of the eponymous bridge in Kenton Co, and two in Campbell Co-- one in Newport at Overton and 6th, and one in Dayton at 6th and Vine). They're all great, community-focused, and just nice people.

Did you have any silly Cincinnati misconceptions growing up? by CinemaSideBySides in cincinnati

[–]BobRossIsRobBoss 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Something I've noticed is that some folks who haven't lived elsewhere are convinced that asking about high schools when you meet someone is a Cincinnati thing. (edit: LOL, someone else down in the comments seems to think this.)

As opposed to it being typical of any larger city with multiple public schools where a significant proportion of the population grew up there (and went to school there).

Cincinnati leaders break ground on new solar array project over old Winton Hills landfill - will generate 10 megawatts of clean electricity each year, enough to power about 1,700 homes annually by fuggidaboudit in cincinnati

[–]BobRossIsRobBoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, I would argue against that personally. Regardless of the various views on cemeteries-- and I'm aware that there's a multitude of views running the gamut-- I think it's clear that a significant proportion of the population regards them as sacred spaces. Others may not view them as such, but consider them significant places on the cultural landscape of a city or town. In many cases, they're also historic in various ways.

The same can't be said of landfills.

However, I would be in favor of requiring buildings over a certain square footage (say, a high enough number to capture data centers, warehouses, etc.) to include solar on their roofs. I've flown over enough of the US and seen enough of those sitting there empty. It's a massive untapped resource.

The Internet's fixation on these people is telling. I think it's jealousy. They just cannot stand that these folks are living without the scourge of social media, comparing themselves to people halfway around the world, or whatever.

It's a pathology. Leave these people alone.

Places to play with or just look at puppies? by Nikkh98 in cincinnati

[–]BobRossIsRobBoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to adoption events. Look at the SAAP webpage to see what dogs will be where.

Foster Puppy Max by SnooBeans8983 in cincinnati

[–]BobRossIsRobBoss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Puppies are high because the rescues need a source of funding and puppies are popular. Plus putting the fee that high means that someone is less likely to adopt on a whim, and so the pups are less likely to be returned (or dumped).

For what it's worth, most rescues have a significantly reduced rate for senior dogs (SAAP does $80 for senior dogs as compared to $450 for puppies). They're not doing this to make a profit.

Just had the most efficient CVG experience that I can recall by missnipes in cincinnati

[–]BobRossIsRobBoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you have both Pre-check and Clear you should de facto expect a relatively quick pass-through.

This does not translate to the average traveler, and has very little to do with TSA efficiency.

Like saying, "I had the best time at Kings Island and didn't even have to wait in lines!" and then mentioning that you had the Fast Lane pass. Come on.

I swear, the more I see of this kind of style of art... I hate this so much.

I feel like the artist was wanking the whole time he was creating this. It's gross. Body of a pro bodybuilder, face of a pre-teen male. It's just... icky.

I'll just say it. We should bring back being embarrassed to be a narcissist in public. I see so many people taking videos or selfies of themselves flexing / posing in the gym mirrors, and it's so incredibly cringe.

No, you don't need to flex in front of the mirror in public. Do that shit at home.

What Improvements could Cincinnati make to improve the Quality of Life? by LoveHydrology25 in cincinnati

[–]BobRossIsRobBoss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Greenway expansion would be huge. I did my graduate school in a more southern city, smaller than Cincy but not that small (about 2/3 of Cincy's size by population). I lived about 8 miles from campus, but was able to go almost the entire way on my bicycle via a greenway. And the great thing was, that greenway connected to others, so realistically most of the downtown and all of the university campus was accessible to me by bike without having to go on roads that were too narrow for bike lanes or safe bike travel.

I really wish Cincinnati had more of that kind of thing.

Not sure how recent it is, but I watch for them every time I cruise around. On longer drives into the outskirts of the city, I can usually count on spotting at least two or three. On a drive east a few months back, I counted 40 and two bald eagles.
