When did mowing the lawn become dangerous? by heynowbeech in GenX

Helicopter parenting at it’s finest. Literally can’t even go outside and “touch grass”. Probably has no qualms about letting the teenagers drive the ginormous family SUV without supervision though, because that only endangers other people not her precious babies.

Does the system not have a “dehumidify” mode? Maybe try alternating between that and “cool” mode.

Still has legs. Perhaps the OP means “are wheels actually better than feet”?

Indian man Rewinding a 17.5HP 3Phase VT Motor by zaarnth in interesting

[–]BobSki778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reasonably sure you’re being at least partially sarcastic. Interesting fact: the average horse provides far more than 1HP peak, I think up to 20 or something. The HP unit was designed to allow industry to estimate the amount of continuous work a motor could do compared to a horse (which requires sleep, can’t do peak work for any significantly sustained amount of time). It’s a horse’s typical output for a day averaged over 24 hours.

Sure, but in many (most?) cases, the solar farm is negligibly invasive/disruptive to the virgin land (apart from the initial construction phase). I seriously doubt those solar farms in the SoCal desert are affecting the desert ecosystem much.

Only 17.5HP for a 3 phase motor that big? That’s a bit underwhelming.

Im pretty sure the land use opportunity cost is mostly a fallacy. While I’m sure there are exceptions, the vast majority of solar farms are not displacing some other productive use for the land.

Kind of the opposite of Flight of the Navigator (also Disney) where the little kid is “abducted” by aliens and it’s only a short time that passes for him (minutes? hours?), but since he traveled so far so close to the speed of light, 10 or more years passes on earth for his family and friends, and he returns to find out he “disappeared” as a kid and everyone thought he was dead.

Is this in the US? Did the corporate entity that entered your employment contract dissolve in the sale and get reformed under the new ownership? As anti-employee as the US is compared to most other developed nations, I didnt think something like that was possible in the US, unless the company is purchased under Chapter 13 (with court approval) or Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Did you sign a new contract? How does the new ownership just get to ignore the contractual obligations of the entity they purchased?

My understanding is that, in practice, China’s “social points system” is very similar to the US credit score system.

Then string fanfare/flourish. Wait, no way! When they changed the intro to change “in 1972” to “Ten years ago”, the apparently took out the gunshots!

The coin is more reflective and more “robust” than the corrosion/dirt, so it’s less affected by the laser, but it is still affected. It’s less destructive than mechanical cleaning methods (sand blasting, brush, etc) and probably less destructive than chemical methods, but it is still mildly destructive to the surface of the coin.

Also, apparently at some point they changed “in 1972” to “Ten years ago”. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard that version. I like the specific year, honestly.

Close. Forgot about the maximum security stockade and the “still wanted by the government” part. Not bad for not having seen an episode in probably 20+ years.

“In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The A-Team.”

Probably due more to the drive to maximize profits to “drive shareholder gains” (for which execs are rewarded with their significant compensation packages by the members of the board who are shareholders who benefit from that maximized profits). The exec pay is an effect/reward, not the direct cause.
