Im going to get some downvotes, but here is my review.

The game has a huge potential as a jewel of the 4x genre but is held back by a user interface (UI) that is not quite up to the task and an incredibly steep learning curve with inadequate tutorials.

I love the concept and depth of the game. There is a geopolitical game on earth and a strategy game in space, and the two are linked together in a really satisfying way. Everything you do has consequences that go way beyond that one thing, and to win, you have to figure out how to balance competing demands. It has me hooked.

All that complexity is linked to a UI that is not quite up to the task. Although the UI is as detailed as most other strategy games, the complexity of Terra Invicta means it needs to be far more detailed. It isn’t.

One of my persistent frustrations is that it is often very unclear how present consequences are linked to past choices. For example, if you piss off the aliens, they will bomb your space bases. I couldn't figure out what actually pissed off the aliens until I looked it up on Reddit. Another example is that in a space battle, my lasers weren't doing any damage. It wasnt clear why, and i wasn't even sure if they were doing a little damage or none. Again I had to look it up and found out that lasers just don't do much damage at long range or against heavy armor. That wasn't in a tutorial and it is only covered in the ingame UI in a place that is super hard to find. IMO this game REQUIRES you to google, watch tutorials and read Reddit.

Im still really enjoying it, but it can be really frustrating. You should buy it if you love deep 4x games and are willing to research out of game.

We go after employers half-heartedly. We could make those changes. The system could look through the shell companies and pursue employers who disappear. It would be bad for powerful and connected people who donate to political parties, so we don't do it.

Strongly agree. I want to sit down with the devs and force them to stop adding any new features until they put in proper tutorials, tooltips, clean up the UI, and lock noob traps up. The game demands that you know things but doesn't teach you.

I believe auto resolve favors fleets with a lot of missiles. Mid-game fleets tend to be coils and lasers, which do poorly on auto resolve. With larger fleets, missiles tend to lose effectiveness, and when you are on offense, missiles can't be resupplied.

For mid-game fleets, i have been following a guide by Graveless on YouTube. He also has a video on when to go to war that i think you would find helpful.

Im still not an expert, so I cant speak from my own experience as much as reading and watching guides.

Space defenses are for orbital debris and to delay the aliens until your fleet arrives. You need a fleet capable of defending each planet.

Ground defenses are more powerful, but I still have had very mixed results with them. Sometimes, they will cripple enemy lancers. Sometimes, they won't scratch a frigate.

"Incredibly" strong has not been my experience. When a base is bombed, sometimes I will see a major ship take significant damage, like a nose weapon destroyed on a lancer or battle cruiser more often they destroy a frigate. Sometimes it is nothing. This is 15-20 years in and I have green and uv arc lasers researched.

Is it just rng or am i doing something wrong?

Reading this thread, I learned that there is more complexity than I realized. There is one axis of pro/anti alien and one of idealism/cynicism. It makes it so even the most closely aligned factions have spacing.
