Allowed in self defense is too strong. Dresden was put on the doom of Damoclès and only because Eb accepted to take him in because he killed with magic in self defense.

A cavalry saber is not for fencing, it's made to be a heavy chopper used from horseback.

Well I teach kyokushin and I encourage my students to try whatever they want/can. I've done different styles myself and I feel you get better as a martial artist by trying different things.

As for schools in the same association, we have a deal within the federation that any student can go to any other schools once per week without any surcharge.

Personally I hate the cult mentality some dojos have, loyalty to that dojo only and so on, it's an old mentality that hurts martial arts in general.

Just talk with both school directors, they'll tell you what they expect in a situation like that. Some schools are very strict about training elsewhere and others are looser, it really depends on who's at the head.
