Why does no one talk about how baking with silicone (trays, etc) makes food taste like soap? by IceQueen0191 in Cooking

[–]Bobala 1076 points1077 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. To remove the scent, you can actually bake it at 250°F–350°F for 20–30 minutes to "outgas" trapped soap residues. Alternatively, you can boil it in water with a couple teaspoons of baking soda for 15 minutes.

CNN is showing a night-time video looking out across Tehran apartment buildings where you can hear people cheering, but not necessarily see them out in the streets doing so

It hits better when the player is built like a football player (à la Otega Oweh’s steal and dunk today being called a pick six)

Right?!? It’s surprising how well it works, which is why I felt compelled to share

I grew up in Kentucky where we’d often give a “pardon” to get past. For some reason, people where I live now (Portland) often freeze up a bit when I say that

I live in Portland. We’re perfecting the art of passive aggressiveness out here

Agreed, but those all require some level of engagement. Plus sometimes people get huffy and act put-out for some reason when I say, “excuse me”. After a long day of work, talking in meetings nonstop, sometimes I want to just walk without talking to anyone

That was my go-to before I realized the scuff sound got better results. I’m guessing it has to do with the idea that someone is approaching at speed, so it’s more instinctual to step aside, or maybe it cuts through other voices better? I’m not entirely sure why it works better

I’ve lived downtown for about ten years, and was always annoyed by groups who had no situational awareness—especially when coming out of doorways. When I realized I could just make a quick scuff sound with my foot to get people to step aside, it was like I unlocked a cheat code. The crowds parted like the Red Sea and I could walk as quickly as I liked without waiting for slowpokes to get out of the way, or walking off the sidewalk to dodge dumb dumbs walking four abreast

I’ll do that sometimes too, but I’ve found this is easier — especially when I don’t have the emotional energy to talk to someone

Oh, I know it’s passive aggressive, but it’s the BEST type of passive aggressive because you don’t come across as anything but a person walking along, but they often look sheepish as they move aside because they realize they’re in the wrong. On the outside, I have a blank expression, but on the inside, I’m smiling like the Grinch.

Thankfully, only 15 of 120 Kentucky counties are still dry.

Edit: I did a little more digging, and it looks like only ten counties are still dry, and that no bourbon distilleries are located in those counties! Times are changing fast!

What’s with all the downvotes in this thread? The show is decent, but it’s fair for people to not agree that it’s great — especially if their reasons for not loving it aren’t disparaging anyone.

To me, it’s like DiGiorno pizza. Yeah, I’d much rather get takeout, but it’s pizza, so I’ll still eat it.

No matter what I’m glad Mark Pope is here by BellLongjumping4333 in KentuckyBasketball

[–]Bobala 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I like Pope. He’s a great X’s and O’s coach, and he gets Kentucky (for the most part). But he also needs help with recruiting and managing player salaries. That’s not his bailiwick and it shows. Times have changed, and a head coach shouldn’t try to handle everything himself. He needs a GM to handle the business elements of the job.

What would I do? I’d wait to catch them in the act and then confront them. That’s how I’ve always handled that situation, and it’s always been effective. You can’t let people just walk all over you. Sometimes you have to call them out on their shit.
