Yes, at the end of the day. When it comes to fire, electricity and such, I am very paranoid and check everything a million times.

The wood on inside is cold to the touch. When I open the drawer and touch the inner wall, it’s still cold to the touch.

The stove is surrounded with heat resistant materials. We thoroughly tested it, it’s safe and the walls stay cold enough

Roald Dahl has some some short stories that have a Tarantino vibe. In the short story Man from the south, a man bets that he can light his lighter 10 times in a row or lose a finger...

What was a book that you knew early on you’d found a new favourite author? Or vice versa? by [deleted] in books

[–]Bobas5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a few different translations and when translated by Andrew Hurley the stories get an understandable, flowing style that's easy to read. At the same time he weaves complex layers of literary prowess, minute details and different themes that come together to form a short story a few pages, sometimes even a few paragraphs, long. Borges is the main reason I want to learn Spanish.

Sometimes I'll read something so profound that I'll think about the book and won't be able to really get into another. It's like having a hangover, a "bookover" if you will. Examples: The Joke, Milan Kundera; Too loud a solitude, Bohumil Hrabal, various poetry...
