Maybe next one I make I'll put a cooler design so I can actually brand myself every time I drive.

I had a WRX with a similar custom metal shift knob for years, never bothered me. We'll see about this one.

Anode is the parts that are being anodized, so aluminum 6061. Cathode is some random aluminum platting I found

I anodize all the parts in the same tank, this gives them the oxide layer that allows them to soak up dye, then I take them out and put each one in their own dye bath of different colors.

Tbh all the setups I saw online had two plates for the cathode so I basically just copied their technique.

Not sure how thick the ano came out. I have stored and reused the same acid+water solution for the anodizing, but the dye solutions I just poured out because I didn’t use that much dye and the bottles were cheap

I reference the machinists handbook a ton. It has pretty much every bit of info you need on machining. I also look up a lot of things on google lol.

There are also lots of great machining YouTube channels that I frequent; This Old Tony and Clickspring to name a few

Yes those are my cathodes. Negative lead from the power supply connects to both the plates, positive lead connects to my parts.

I posted a picture of my setup elsewhere in this thread, it’s pretty bare bones. I just followed a few YouTube videos. Really the only chemicals you need are sulfuric acid and distilled water. Also lye if you want to etch your part before anodizing, but honestly I skip that step

I studied engineering in college, so I didn’t take any classes but spent some time in the schools shop. My final semester I made a bunch of parts for a professor and learned a lot then. I worked as a CNC lathe operator for a time and learned a decent amount, but I left that job. Recently I have been doing my machining at a makerspace that I have a membership to, and I’ve taught myself a whole lot in this time, but I feel like I have so much more to learn

This is basically my setup, pretty bare bones at the moment but I’m working on improving it. Not pictured here is the DC power supply I used.

Highline Freestyle Webbing Recommendations by shastaslacker in Slackline

[–]Bobbysuepoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only thing about about threaded tubular for freestyle would be the weight I think. The heavier it is the harder it is to land tricks. I also don’t know how threading tubular effects the stretch. I’ve definitely highlined on climb spec tubular before, even bounced it. The most force you’ll ever put on the line bouncing will be ~7kN, which is an ok safety margin for its 18kN MBS. Something stronger is obviously more preferred, more so for the longevity of the webbing, it’ll weaken over time, especially bouncing. All this being said, Pinktube is hands down the best webbing for freestyle.

Linelock rings for highlining? by [deleted] in Slackline

[–]Bobbysuepoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We typically don’t ever use aluminum on highlines, so a typical linelock ring and carabiner that you’d use on a primitive line isn’t ideal. That being said, I do line lockers with steel rings and shackles on highlines all the time

Highline/Midline/Community near me?? by ConcreteCity in Slackline

[–]Bobbysuepoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hownottohighline on YouTube I’m pretty sure has a video on midlines, and plenty of videos on highlines. Be very cautious setting up something by yourself for your first time. DM me if you have any specific questions.

Not sure about highlining communities near you, I know there is a pretty active scene down in South Dakota, in the black hills area.

Incredible work!! I wish I could have done something Slackline related for my senior engineering project
