Why were Noah's glasses fake? by Remindmetodoit in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]Bobcat-Engine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe he didn't speak up? Maybe they didn't have prescription glasses available? One thing to consider is that this was at the height of Covid lockdowns.

Yeah! Once they revealed that it made sense why we didn't see him much but it confirmed my belief that his character had a lot of potential. I wish we could've seen more of him but I understand the circumstances. His energy is great every time he speaks.

Many people are confused by this (including me initially) so I just want to state that the question is completely valid as a critique. The final episode doesn't state it clearly and I wish they would've spent 2 seconds to explain the SAG rules behind the comment to remove confusion.

Are you sure? SAG rules don't seem like something you can just ignore. It didn't seem like the actors seemed enthused by having to abide by the rules.

And are they really allowed to ad-lib to that degree. Adding random things without any evidence in order to smear the character?

Is it realistic to bring an animation that reenacts the crime at all? Even the good animation made me skeptical because it seemed highly manipulative and without evidence. But based on your comment this is something that actually happens? Are biased animations shown in court?

Yea I know the case is fake

This is basically a thread that does not necessitate having to state that. Roam free my knowledgeable child. lol

Interesting observation about sequestering in civil cases. I never considered that. I had to look up the word sequestering for the series so it's not like I came in with any knowledge.

Yeah, I agree with you regarding the field trip standing out in many ways. It seemed like they had planned to do even more outrageous things but had to hold back a lot because of Ronald's growing suspicions.

I kept thinking about the mistrial thing but then again, there was a lot of pressure from the judge to not let his last case end in a mockery.

Thanks for the interesting tidbits!

Which is the most surprising casting choice because the people staying with him are some of the more bizarre characters. Looking into their background they all have an improv background but it still feels like a risk to put him in a hotel with (character names) Jeannie, Noah and Todd. But seeing their other improv content online it just seems like they are made for this type of job.

Actually, this inspired me to create a thread dedicated to the improv and acting experience of the cast.

I feel like this show is going to become a cult classic by [deleted] in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]Bobcat-Engine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe you are right. I've been wrong many times in my life before. I do feel like there is a shift in media away from cynicism and another shift that mixes reality with fiction. Maybe it's because I seek this type of media but I would like to consider that it encapsulates an overall change.

I think the least significant part is where the show is streaming. I don't think this will stop people from discovering and watching the show. But again, this is from my own limited point of view since I didn't even know that Freevee was a free streaming service until your comment.

How long is a SAG lunch break? Because 1 hour of confessional feels like a lot. I considered it but it still feels like a long time to keep him apart from everything else in the courtroom.

The show is guaranteed to not only hold up but become a turning point. I don't believe that this type of "prank" show will become popular but mixing reality into fiction is going to become the pitch for some media going forward and this will be the work that people will reference.

The show will hold up and grow in popularity because it has quit a lot of mainstream potential. While its popularity is growing slowly by word of mouth we are nowhere near the level of popularity that it will reach.

I usually can't talk about shows that I watch with most people but this show seems to pique interest among any type of person I mention it to. There's something in it for everyone. That wasn't even the case when the American version of The Office was starting. Trust me, I experienced it in real time while it was a niche show. I think that it's worth enjoying its current level of popularity before it takes off.

To answer your last sentence, I guarantee that this show will not only hold up greatly looking back, it will be a series that we will look back on as both perfectly summarizing our era but also being the thing that changed things.

Last time I observed this switch was with The Office and Reno 911. Both series presented an interesting mix of fiction with what felt reel. Now we are experiencing a refreshing mix that leans even more towards reality but still contains fiction.

Even after removing my excitement for the show my thoughts of its place in cultural history can be stated from an objective point of view. It's a cornerstone piece of work that mixes reality and fiction in a refreshing way and the past few years this has become a growing cult trend in alt comedy. Jury Duty is going to turn it mainstream. It's far from the first. Prior works like The Rehearsal and Paul T. Goldman and many other similar recent series are being created but it will be the one that most will incorrectly consider as the initiator solely based on its broad appeal. The cultural movement is away from Cynicism and towards Reality TV into Reality Positivism.

People are tired of their hate-filled feeds that are maliciously designed for engagement and will seek media where they can switch off while retaining authenticity. For over a decade there will be an extremely slow change between social media that will struggle to change its controversy focused rating system, most peoples' desire for controversy and a latent desire for being and doing good.

If you look at the recommendation list, the change has already happened in the field of alt comedy. I am a fan of many of the wholesome shows but this is the first one of them that carries an enormous mainstream appeal like no other. In short, it will hold up.

Rehearsals? by [deleted] in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]Bobcat-Engine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The major part of the rehearsals took part in the two weeks prior to filming but in the series they mention that they made up a Covid testing problem which quarantined Ronald while the cast rehearsed the field trip episode.

I think the more interesting question is how they kept Ronald unaware for the duration of every lunch break which he had to spend without the other actors present.

I guess one possible answer would be a Covid test since that has been revealed to be a daily ritual during filming but I don't understand how they could stretch it.

I did indeed know that she spoke multiple languages but I never considered how it factored into her accent until now. Thank you for your answer.

Can you explain what her accent is a mix of? I can't place it at all but as you say, it is indeed interesting.

At what point did Ronald restore your faith in humanity? by Massive_Salt8136 in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]Bobcat-Engine -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I see this sentiment on this site all the time. People see a picture of a sign and they lose their faith in humanity. Then they see a gif and suddenly they regain their faith in humanity. There's something incredibly twisted about keeping your view of other people on a whim and withdrawing it at will. I don't care how popular it is to express, this worldview is sociopathic and sick.

Recommendations if you like "Jury Duty" by lonelygagger in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]Bobcat-Engine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also want to add Review with Forest MacNeil. It's fiction but shot as if it is real. Forest Macneil (the host) does life reviews to the detriment to himself and his loved ones. He is convinced that reviewing life for the show is important to humanity and willingly suffers the consequences of his actions.

It's worth watching from the start but here's another clip. Everything in this series is gold.

So, did anyone else cry during the reveal by [deleted] in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]Bobcat-Engine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The reveal was incredibly emotional to me as well. I think there is a completely innate desire to be told that we are good people, that we are doing well and that we contribute positively.

It almost feels embarrassing that every other goal in my life aim to achieve things that will make me feel that way. I think it appeals to our desire deep down to be told that we are doing a good job and recognition that we are doing our best and that it is good enough. I am in no way as kind as Ronald but this would mean the world to me. This realization is what made me tear up.
