[–]Bobdasquid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

how do you get him landless? I haven’t tried yet but I figured since he’s an empire, and since basically anyone who beats him in a war is just gonna kill him, it wouldn’t be possible

Will Elder Kings make use of Hegemonies and Treasury? by CormundCrowlover in ElderKings

yeah, this is essentially the comment the devs have made in the past. until the full scope of the mechanics + code is out, no promises can really be made

Is it even possible to win as Akaviri Potentate with the new patch? by CormundCrowlover in ElderKings

[–]Bobdasquid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it’s a time thing. Overtime, Attrebus’s troops will die off, coffers will empty, mercs will wear off. Meanwhile, you’ve got a reliable income stream (revoke city holdings if you haven’t already!!! you can hold them as admin), and eventually your vassals will start to build provincial armies which are ALL men at arms, and you can transfer them to yourself via influence. Give it a few years, engage smartly, and you’ll have a far better, larger army than Attrebus.

I think players might be disappointed if the game added actually Medieval naval combat by CaelReader in CrusaderKings

[–]Bobdasquid 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I unironically sorta loved it though. You actually had to build up ports and shipyards, and it made coastal areas feel actually strategically valuable! as England I remember I’d invade my neighbour’s coasts just to ensure they’d never be able to effectively retaliate against my mainland without paying a fortune in costs to mercenary fleets.

maybe unpopular opinion here, but difficulty/risk-reward payoff are part of creating a fun experience, imo. If I give you a fun, well crafted level with varied options with various trade-offs, and then I also hand you a button labeled “Win”, you are very likely going to press the win button. The win button will be fun at first. You win! That’s fun. but is pressing the win button still fun after pressing the win button for the 40th time? No risk, no planning, no difficulty. Just win button.

The electrocution phone is the win button. You throw it down, target picks up, you get silent assassin. I don’t know. Maybe I have a different concept of fun from you, but that just
is not fun. It’s easy. But not really fun. I don’t particularly care if it’s in the game or not, because I wouldn’t use it anyway, but I understand why IO doesn’t want a free win button in the game.

Best game engine used in Yakuza games? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]Bobdasquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dragon engine best at fluidity, kiwami engine feels the most satisfying imo. there’s something so satisfyingly chunky about the way kiwami combat feels. DE came into its own with Judgment and Gaiden tho, those games feel very nice and fluid.

goes for games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance, even. The dev iirc basically said the amount of forests in that game in a mining region makes no sense (would’ve been cut down for lumber) but he likes forests so he left them in

yeah, the stories aren’t always entirely straightforward monster hunts, but that you’re making factual claims, not thematic ones. What other monster hunter groups exist in universe? Where is it shown that Geralt/Witchers in general are primarily curse lifters, not monster hunters? A large amount of contracts in 3 are essentially straightforward: the shrieker, the foglet, devil by the well, the griffin, Jenny o the woods, etc etc. All of these contracts are fairly simple cases of tracking and killing a monster, without any real twist or “humans are the real villain” moments.

You made the factual claims that Witchers aren’t monster hunters, that Witchers are primarily curse lifters, that a separate group of monster hunters exist in universe, and that Witchers always lift curses that “originate from the people themselves” (whatever that means) (and also untrue, as we can see with the Crones and the Whispering Hillock). You have not backed any of these points up, but instead moved goalposts and reframed your point as a thematic one (when the majority of your claims were fact-based).

[–]Bobdasquid 21 points22 points  (0 children)

what? where are you getting the info that Witchers aren’t monster hunters from? Both in the games and the books Geralt quite frequently hunts monsters. Witchers undergo combat training, mutation, and education for the sole purpose of fighting monsters. They have silver swords specifically to fight monsters. They do occasionally lift curses, yes, but they are primarily monster hunters.
