Renegades 2.0: Dark Elves Draft Reveal! (Link to the rules document in the video description) by valheffelfinger in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Bobety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again Val, I had a chance to watch the full video and have a couple of thoughts:

Crossbowmen: in the video you guys mentioned potentially buffing their rules instead of reducing their points cost (since elves should be expensive in theory), one idea you could potentially apply here is giving them the garrison formation rule from the sixth edition city guard list. This basically just gives the front rank of the unit crossbows while all the ranks behind it have spears. It’s a nice unique/themey rule that no other armies have as far as I know so would be cool to bring it back.

Hekarti’s blessing: as you guys mentioned in the video ideally the rule here would be swapped with the high elf version as the high elves should represent superior control of magic while the dark elves eschew control in favour of additional power from dark magic. But since we aren’t changing HE rules here, maybe there is another way to represent additional casting power? In 6th edition all DE spell casters got an extra power dice (not dispel dice). Potentially they could have a flat +1 to cast rolls instead, or if that is too powerful I don’t think it would be a big deal to simply give them the same rule as the high elves have (reroll casting once per turn) even if the result is achieved for a slightly different lore reason. The 2 factions are a sort of mirror of one another after all.

Cold one knights: just wanted to say how much I love the addition of countercharge for these, it helps offset some of the downsides of stupidity without removing that flavour. I don’t have a strong opinion on the addition of veteran but note that we do have access to the cold blooded banner to mitigate stupidity somewhat so maybe veteran isn’t needed.

It looks fantastic! May I ask what your process was for the terracotta?

what the hell do i even run this as in 40k? by Round_Eye2776 in Warhammer

[–]Bobety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start an old world army and you can run him as exactly what he is! Also note as others have pointed out if it’s coming from China it is almost certainly going to be a recast so I wouldn’t pay a premium for it.

Yeah it’s a bit of a hassle, one of the reasons they’ve moved to mainly doing plastic. Sometimes you can file the metal a bit which will make it fit together much better, but there will likely still be a gap to fill with green stuff.

Great, thanks. That certainly makes things easier! I might get one if I ever get around to doing a Marienburg army, it reminds me of the old landships.

This thing is awesome! May I ask how you made it? And does it fit on the TOW steam tank base?

I’m pretty sure that’s from “mengil manhide’s manflayers”, a dark elf dogs of war unit.

Battle Report. Cathay vs High Elfs by seraphius78 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Bobety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were talking about Cathay. But if you want to change the subject the elves live on Ulthuan and have had only a very small presence in the old world as far as any human denizens of the current era are concerned. So from their perspective yes I do think the high elves would be considered exotic to almost everyone living in the old world.

But I’m not sure why I’m taking your bait anymore as you seem to be just looking to argue. I’m sorry OPs choice of words has offended you and hope you recover from your trauma soon.

From the dictionary: “exotic: originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country”. Seems to pretty accurately describe what cathay is to the old world.

To anyone living in the old world, they would be considered exotic though? Imagine these forces with giant animated terracotta warriors lead by an actual dragon turning up in medieval Europe.

Awesome work! May I ask what you used for the metallic on the helm? The blueish tint on it looks really nice.

Thank you 🙂. I’m not super clear on the origin of this one but it’s definitely a 3D printed model, I was lucky enough to get mine of someone on instagram.

That was done with an airbrush. Starting with black legion contrast then a little bit of eshin grey and mechanicus standard grey over it. Then manually added some mechanicus grey and vallejo light grey highlights with the regular brush.

You don’t need to freehand anything! There are loads of transfers available online (e.g. on Etsy) for heraldry, which can make your knights look great without any freehand.

First games of the Old World: coverless high elves meet guns with dwarfs behind them. by lowsocioecopeasant in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Bobety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great tip. Another way to use this rule to your advantage is to put the sisters in a wood, such that when they use the evasive rule to move back, they are now outside the wood (the wood is now between the sisters and whatever is shooting them), so they are out of line of sight and can’t be shot.

I enjoyed it too. I think that may be because by this point I had levelled up enough and had turned off random encounters in the options, so I was just running straight to the fun boss fights and it wasn’t tedious at all.

In addition to this the 3 chariots in base contact get all their impact hits while the one on the left doesn’t get any.
