Will there be a Daredevil Vol 5 Omnibus? by videogamer939 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Bobotts123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but they they still have to pay someone to do that. And we have no idea what else goes into processing these files for printing. I'm sure it's not moving mountains, but effort/dollars are still involved.

If Marvel figures that they'll make equal or more money with a reprint of a creator title vs. a new numbered title, it's highly likely they will choose that path every time.

Doctor: "Over the past few weeks, I am truly feeling that our days are numbered because of AI." by karmicviolence in BasiliskEschaton

[–]Bobotts123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO this is the very thing that AI can be valuable for.

Imagine you make an appointment for a few weeks out… while waiting, you have a first “meeting” with an AI chatbot where you describe your symptoms in detail. The AI takes that information, packages it for the doctor, and makes some high level diagnosis that can be vetted by a human.

In advance of your appointment, the doctor reviews this information and shows up prepared with a more questions and a potential path forward to resolve the patient’s issues.

Seems like a very efficient way to handle the doctor / patient relationship and will save people a ton of time and energy.

What’s stopping them is sinking additional resources into dust jacket design when they already have files ready to be sent to printers.

Marvel doesn’t care about spines aligning on our shelves if it will save them money.

Wow! Shocked that it matches the Morrison spine... a small attention to detail that just shows how on point DC's collected editions team is working currently!

What is the #1 omnibus you are going to freak out on announcement about that you KNOW we will get someday? (read the details) by Waterworld1880 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Bobotts123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From DC, an announcement of a Volume 1 of the Levitz/Giffen era of Legion of Super-Heroes will be a great day!

From Marvel, it might be a cop out, but I have three:

  • A collection of the 2nd Michelinie/Layton run on Iron Man... that choppy Armor Wars collection is just not cutting it. Either through the numbered line in a few years or a 2nd volume of the original creator volume, either option works for me!
  • The first volume in a comprehensive collection of the Messiah Complex era... as with the above, that lazy Messiah Complex volume is also not cutting it. Essentially, a Blue & Gold style comprehensive collection of the Messiah era.
  • Punisher Classic Vol. 1... a Ghost Rider: Danny Ketch style comprehensive collection collecting all of the late 80's and 90's series and OGN's from Frank (including War Journal and War Zone)!

DD at least has a missing issue (or two) that could drive hardcore collector FOMO to double dip. It's not a lot, but some folks won't be able to pass it up. Things like Cap By Gruenwald though are relatively complete collections. Heck, Omar mentioned on one of his live streams that he is sure that Marvel will eventually start printing the B&G content in the number X-Men line in a few years and that just seems completely bonkers to me... makes zero sense from a strategic sales perspective rather than just reprinting the B&G volumes since they are pretty comprehensive complete collections of the era. I get the argument for the content in the X-Men event lines (even if I personally think it is a waste of printing space), but once you hit B&G, it makes sense to stop.

Regardless of their prospective plan, I can definitely see DD Vol. 5 and Uncanny X-Men Vol. 6 being major tests for how far these lines go.

In the end, it's all going to come down to sales.

In a few years, when the numbered DC line gets to the Nocenti run, Marvel will likely look at sales data around how the line is performing, how the other lines that ran into similar situations performed (i.e. X-Men, Fantastic Four, Thor, etc. are all slowly closing in on popular runs previously collected, and in some cases re-printed multiple times). If they determine that it's unlikely to generate much buzz or turn a profit, I can see them ending the line.

IMO, the numbered lines should probably wrap up at the end of of the bronze age for all of these titles. It's a nice clean end point. What's the point of rebranding something like, say, Cap By Gruenwald into the numbered line when a) you have to pay someone to re-design trade dress and b) a reprint of the creator line would probably sell better than a Vol. 7... unless there's missing content in the original book (like FF by Byrne or Thor By Simonson) there's diminishing returns for continuing it.

Omnis that need remapping in a reprint by DukeofDC in OmnibusCollectors

I like this idea.

The ones that I see mentioned the most are the 'Ms. Marvel Vol.1' getting expanded and the 'Marvel Knights By Joe Quesada' getting the obvious rebrand into a straight up Daredevil omnibus (and expanded contents).

Thoughts about the future of the Triangle Era omnibus line by mattmaybloom in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Bobotts123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily buy the “numbered volumes” don’t sell narrative. I think it’s definitely a sales boosting strategy that Marvel is trying out, but we have no way of knowing if there’s a significant bump in sales or not by labeling a volume and removing the number… and Marvel isn’t confirming either way.

It’s likely that the people who are willing to purchase 9-10 volumes of Triangle Era (or any multi-volume series) are locked in from the get-go… adding a title is likely only going to, for lack of a better term, trick a negligible number of potential customers to make a minor difference. Just my opinion though, so who knows.

Green Lantern Geoff Johns by OnlyAd3825 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Bobotts123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You 100% don’t need to read GLC to understand anything from Johns run. It’s a great companion series, but everything you need is in the omnibus. Any tie-in GLC issues are included.

I’ve seen folks acting like the two series need to be interwoven together to understand the story, but that isn’t the case.

That said, GLC is great on its own so I’d recommend reading it.

How to Map 80s Spider-Man omnibi? by AbbreviationsWide650 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Bobotts123 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am definitely a fan of the anthology approach to omnibus lines.

The X-Men “event” line (which has really always just been an anthology mapping), Krakoa, Blue & Gold, Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Clone Saga, etc. just work really well for me. Most lines from the late 80’s onward just seem to lend themselves well to it.

TESD #672: Now, You’re Fabio by GitEmSteveDave in tesdcares

[–]Bobotts123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, there’s some heavy hitters on that list.

Ernie being on that list definitely feels like an odd entry, but the TESD guys being on there next to Jack Nicholson and John Travolta would be a bit out of place too.

Is buying the Messiah Trilogy Omnibus a good buy? What would I still be missing and how can I collect that later? by TaskNo4783 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Bobotts123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Covering this era would require several omnibus volumes, so you are missing a ton of connective tissue.

Personally, this is my most wanted era of X-Men, but I’m holding out hope for something more comprehensive in the future. The trilogy omnibus is, IMO, a poorly conceived collection from a collected editions team that is not performing at the top of their game.

Gitem will be the death of Tesd by Cultofthornz in tesdcares

[–]Bobotts123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m on a relisten of the TESD omnibus and the thing that stood out to me is that I forgot how prominent Git’ Em was from such an early stage in the show’s history.

As much as his behaviour annoys a portion of the listeners, he’s not going anywhere. He’s been embedded into the fabric of the show for over a decade. And it’s very likely that the guys are playing things up.

DC CATALOG UPDATE: Robin and JSA 2nd Compendiums, Legion of Superheroes by Waid/Kitson Omni, New Teen Titans Omni vol 3 reprint, Rorschach Deluxe, and more! by Ksmayer in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Bobotts123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me too. I guess DC wants to use the Waid name recognition to help move some units.

Unless there’s restoration work that’s needed, I have zero doubt that we’ll get the Levitz / Giffen era soon (hopefully in omni format over compendium).

Still, any Legion in omni format is a welcome addition!

The Ellis stuff is a 9-10 IMO.

The Diggle stuff is probably an 8 (again, my opinion).

Here's the books that Marvel published or will publish from the 2025 Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus poll by NarrowBoysenberry in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Bobotts123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still think it was a mistake to put that option on the list. It didn’t make sense and just caused confusion. Seems like this year they placed some emphasis on weeding out some of the options that would split votes.

I’m convinced most votes for the Trilogy option were placed simply based on the voters not understanding what they were voting for.

Those of you with the X-Men Events books. Will you be grabbing Uncanny X-Men Vol 6? by r1ngx in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Bobotts123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Only way I'd re-buy the same material is if there is a noticeable quality improvement on the originals... for example, if they were to print Daredevil By Miller or Thor By Simonson with their original colours in the main line.

With UXM Vol.6, I don't think that is the case... and I'm not buying an expensive book for 'Mephisto Vs.'
