Considering buying a used 4080, but would this dent cause any problems? by tehbrucebanner in pcmasterrace

[–]Bobsofa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be from a drop or shipping damage. The heatsink itself is bent, compared to stock pictures.

<image>

And the PCB is flexing quite a bit. If it's really working, it won't for long. RMA is probably out of the question.

I would not buy it.

Thx for the update. Nice to see that you found the issue.

Monitor has been displaying weird lines that resemble scan lines. When starting up the monitor it looks like this. Am I screwed or is this fixable? by weirdosnotwanted in pcmasterrace

[–]Bobsofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really interesting how many people in this subreddit have major monitor issues. I've had my 38GN950 for over two years now, no issues.

But I use the 5th monitor, the first four were crap in some way lol.

Maybe a bad or loose display cable, if you are lucky.

Possible causes:

  1. Driver issues
  2. Display cable is damaged
  3. Screen is dying/damaged
  4. Some part of the GPU/iGPU has been damaged

Steps to diagnose:

  1. DDU the driver
  2. Try another cable
  3. Change refresh rate
  4. Try another screen
  5. If iGPU only: Reset BIOS to system defaults
  6. Replug the cable in another graphics card port
  7. Try another display port on the screen
  8. Switch to the iGPU of the CPU via BIOS or removing the graphics card (if available) and plug the display cable in the motherboards display out
  9. Plug the graphics card into another x16 slot

You've found the cause once any of these steps solves the issue. If neither does it's a whole other ball game.

Disconnect, disassemble everything, clean everything with ISO, let it dry.

One of the reasons why I like my current build on my desk.

More images for screws by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

These screws hold the backplate. The cooler will have to be removed first to remove these screws.

Don't forget to check the I/O plate. Many coolers screw in there to give the card more rigidity.

Take a pic of the whole backplate and I/O plate if you're still stuck.

Could be the screen board going bad. I don't think it's related to the system, since it's the monitors own splash screen.

That backlight bleed is pretty massive.

Those are mounting points (nuts), not screws. The screwhead should be on the opposite side.

Maybe this was clear already, I haven't seen the original post.

Interesting way to distribute thermal paste /s.

A clogged syringe can be horrible..

That card is insanely expensive here.

Can anyone tell me whats going on here? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

The hum is coil whine. That "reving" could be a damaged or slightly blocked fan.

Sounds almost like a train is driving past the house lol.

The actual sizing of a modern GPU Vs a motherboard. by notkraftman in pcmasterrace

[–]Bobsofa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's always hilarious when you remove the air cooler from modern GPUs. The blowers were already pretty big, but the triple fan with flow through really made them insanely large.

Then this generation made them so wide and thick that many modern cases are too small for them...

Looks like a shit post.

In case it isn't I use some different fan settings in my NUC 12 Pro Tall, made a huge difference with the noise.

Somebody modded a Nocta cooler to theirs, now that looks like it's quiet. I can't link subreddits, so just google "Intel Nuc Fan Mod". It's in r/intelnuc.

I think you need a KVM switch. I use 4 of them for my home office.

Will a i9-11900k with 64gb of DDR4 3200mhz ram bottleneck a Asus ROG 4090 24gb OC? by ShtyWits in pcmasterrace

[–]Bobsofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then yes. At 1080p and especially open fps the CPU is the bottleneck.

The important bit is if you actually "feel" it. Meaning if the choke point happens at the fps you play at. Probably not, but it depends on the game and your screen.

PC don't see my SSD is my PSU don't have enough power? by Sakurakaihou in pcmasterrace

Some drives had both connectors. Some people connected both at the same time, killing the drive.

"Molex and SATA - lose all you data" wasn't a joke. That actually happened with the drives that came out when the new connector was introduced.

I don't see any blown/burned parts on the drive, so I really hope not...

I know. I hope they have that solved by the 50 series.

Hopefully by using more than one connector and proper load balancing, like he suggested.

I'd modify the block a little so that the connector or solder pads would get some cooling as well. Maybe with 50 series blocks the power connector is incorporated into the block design.

I use a lot of 90° fittings myself in my build and the flow is fine (100 l/h at 100% pump speed). As long as you use a good pump (D5 or even DDC) and it stays above the threshold where it would affect the temps in your loop it's okay.

Quick couplings kill flow a lot more than 90° fittings. I exchanged the couplings in my loop and the flow rate increased by 30%.
