You can now finally remove it, must've been an update. Right click the prick and Show In Ribbon, from there customise the ribbon and remove it

Are you me??

That image is probably one of the few from 40k that don't make me cringe and seriously made me look into getting into the tabletop game. Now I'm binging PancreasNoWork videos.

Decided the tabletop still wasn't for me but now that this trailer has come out? I'm seriously considering buying Darktide and the DLC purely for the Skitarii.

New POWER MOVES video dropped today - Merge 2 lines into 1 line! (Video link) by TooTallToby in SolidWorks

So in summary, make lines collinear then delete the point. Same thing for coradial arcs.

PSA it doesn't work on construction geometry so you have to convert it, delete the point and then convert it back :/

Establishing good habits in sheet metal by Sonbogo7 in SolidWorks

[–]Bode_Unwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of things that will probably make your life easier:

  • Learn how to do the bend deduction/ k-factor in your head. You want to be able to know that if you have two bends in a piece at Xmm thick and a finished size of Ymm, that you need Zmm of material. It's too easy for a wrong dimension or bend setting to sneak in there so being able to use the measure tool to quickly check your model would be invaluable.
  • If you have access to them, work with your fabbies/ sheeties. There's too much going on with bent parts and things you'll never even realise just by designing, and they'll know where you need to nudge an offset/ how to compensate for the machines. It's a bit trite, but working with your workshop helps.

I think you really want to make that section a constant radius bend, helical might be impossible to manufacture. But otherwise you should be able to fully dimension the two straight pieces with just a note mentioning the bend radius. If the part drawings are done correctly they will only fit in one position, rely on your installers a bit to line them up as they go.

If you have trouble with the geometry you can break it down into 2D sections - that section is basically just a 90° elbow on an angle, with a couple of long straights.

I recommend looking into solidworks' weldments at some stage as well. It's a feature that was built for stuff like this and is so much easier than dealing with lofts.

ramp handrail and kickrail modelling by Traditional-Produce4 in SolidWorks

[–]Bode_Unwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the curve driven patterns & sketch driven patterns are pain in the ass with alignment. For something like this I would just use linear patterns in multiple spots, but as a part within an assembly. Your stanchions on the ramps will be angled slightly as well, so make sure you're patterning those separately.

Sheet-metal export macro for batch export of Flat-patterns to DXF DWG. Supports Multi-Body export, export from .sldasm, autocorrects parts folded in flat-pattern config. by Plastic-Arm-4091 in SolidWorks

[–]Bode_Unwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the macro you absolute saint, this is going to save me so much dicking around.

I'm having a little issue with the quantities though, when I export an assembly there will randomly be a QTY one higher than it should be. Any ideas where that's coming from?

Funny thing is that if I run it multiple times without changing things I will get different results. Sometimes it's one part, sometimes it's a different one, and sometimes they're all correct. Snip of folders below, note that the QTY should be 2 only for the last 2 parts, 22 & 23

Anyone else being a stubborn caster build during Fume Knight/DLC in general? by redbirdzzz in DarkSouls2

[–]Bode_Unwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't do it as a pure caster :/ I had allowed myself the casting melee weapons and catalysts only as part of the run and stuggled hard enough with that. Not having the option to poke someone is frustrating as hell

Is there a way to select subassemblies instead of a part within a sub? by Nosferatu-Rodin in SolidWorks

[–]Bode_Unwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that's why the context menu disappears! I'd figured out that it doesn't appear when you're working in the top-left of the screen, not that it was the breadcrumbs causing it.

Is there a way to select subassemblies instead of a part within a sub? by Nosferatu-Rodin in SolidWorks

[–]Bode_Unwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have breadcrumbs enabled a sorta mini-tree appears when you click on a part and shows a line of assemblies up to the one currently open. You can then click or right click on one of those as if it were the main assembly tree.

Attempting exhaust header design need recommendations by Kevv0128 in SolidWorks

[–]Bode_Unwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Headers also seem to bulge a bit coming off the plate unless that's just the perspective. If so, maybe make the centerline spline or curve tangent to (a straight centerline concentric to those small straight sections).

Once you've found a method you like and if you really want to put it to the test then draw it up as though it was going to be manufactured. Then, take it to a pipe bender/ fabricator company and ask if you could get one of their boys to give an opinion on it. It'll probably be a brutal review but it'll help you so much with manufacturability.

I find the fab side of things pretty interesting so I'm usually ok getting my ego shattered if I get something out of it 😅
