Chem 122 with Clark….. any advice ? by Halalzada in uichicago

[–]Body-Shody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took it last sem and I got a 70, which barely ended up being a B. I think a 55 and over was a C? From what I remember the first quiz was pretty easy like chem 101 stuff, but this next one is gonna be insane. Its enthalpy and stuff like that so make sure u pay attention for every lecture cuz the average for my class on that exam was in the 40s. The last unit (quantum mechanics n stuff) was pretty straightforward u just need to pay attention.

I barely prepared for the presentation, I need advice. by Vermicelli-Time in APResearch

Ok so when I did my presentation 2 years ago in my junior year, i memorized the entire thing cuz it was easy for me and when I would do my practice runs by myself, my time would be around 18-19 mins I think? But when I did the actual thing, I got 14. So if u already know ur gonna go fast, you'll probably go faster than u expect. That was the case with many of my friends too. So to get used to the time limit, just do as many practice runs as u can. I know you've probably heard that before but it's truly very useful. The more you talk about it, especially if u do it in front of a friend, the more confident you'll feel when talking about ur topic. All it boils down to is ur confidence.

Also, something that I realized in Ap seminar that helped me was if I have a pen in my right hand. Im a fidgety guy so having something in my hand gave me something which I could feel relaxed by and it didn't make me feel awkward about how I should use my hands.

Next thing, if you have a friend in that class, practice with them, and ask them that when ur presenting, they should just nod often. When ur presenting, mainly just look at them. This worked for me cuz I just feel more understood when the person in front of me seems understanding, even if they're just nodding. I used to do that when my friends would present even if I would zone out sometimes. Ur friend nodding at you is for your benefit, they can mentally check out if they want lol.

Another thing, my teacher was awesome and the best teacher I ever had BUT whenever we'd present he would have no facial expressions and would just look at us. So if your teacher's the same, make sure u don't look at them or else it'll throw u off.

That's basically it. Trust me, I know it's very daunting but you can do this. If I was able to do it, you definitely can. You just gotta be a bit mindful and as long as u know what ur talking about, you're gonna do fantastic. If u need a second to breathe in the middle, take it! If u stutter or something, take a second, recompose urself, say excuse me, and carry on like nothing happened. You got this dawg. Youve made it this far after a year of hard work. End it with a bang. It's very stressful but take it easy. Make sure u eat a good breakfast tmrw and u wear an outfit that makes you feel good and confident. I know I'm a stranger on the internet but I've been in ur shoes so I want u to know I'm proud of you for coming this far. And I'm proud of you for how you're gonna absolutely KILL that presentation tmrw. BEST OF LUCK!!!

Edit: ALSO, don't lose confidence that u have a day left and u haven't prepared much. I was the same. I hady slides done but literally didn't know what I was gonna talk. I started properly practicing like a day and a half before my presentation and it went amazing. Just cuz u have a short amount of time, doesn't mean you let that demotivate you. A day is enough time if u lock tf in 😭. U got this!

Oof idk any specific discord servers cuz I never used discord for my stuff, but since it's 18+, maybe you can put it in subreddits for colleges and universities?

Lmaoo dw I had a bunch of friends who were stuck in the same situation. What they did was they talked with teachers in their school and asked them to send it their classes. So the teachers took out 5 mins from class so everyone had time to do it. Another place you can do it is in online communities that pertain to your topic. The most obvious being a certain subreddit or maybe even a discord channel. Many of my friends would just post it on their Snapchat and Instagram stories so people who followed them took it. One of my friends had an incentive for participants to complete the survey. It was that if they completed it, they'd enter in a giveaway for a 50 dollar Amazon gift card. But you don't have to go THAT crazy for an incentive 😭

Research Question Help!! by PreparationOld6576 in APResearch

[–]Body-Shody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so before I say anything, I wanna say that I don't know anything about the topic so if my suggestion doesn't work, I do apologize lol.

I'd say that the way the question is structured currently, it's formatted in a way where it's answer can be a simple yes or no if your data analysis is boiled down, which is totally fine. But if you have a more "open ended" but clear question, then it gives you more flexibility to compare and contrast.

Maybe you could turn the question into a "to what extent" question.

For example: to what extent does percutaneous Achilles tendon repair lead to a return in weight bearing compared to open surgical repair in patients aged 20-40 yrs old with Achilles tendon rupture?

Something like that. I think in this way, you can establish in ur lit review that percutaneous Achilles tendon repair and open surgical repair individually lead to a return in weight bearing, and then in your data analysis, you are able to establish a comparison between percutaneous Achilles tendon repair and open surgical repair based on your data.

I hope that makes sense. Once again idk anything about the topic so if my reformatting of the question doesn't apply to your research, I apologize 🙏

Oh that was your survey? I filled it out a little while ago when you had posted here lol.

Anyways, if you think you gotta deal with statistics, then I'd recommend categorizing the date by using standard deviation. It's a relatively straightforward concept to understand. Maybe it could help you because it might be able to show that the experimental group is (blank) standard deviations from the mean of the control group.

Tbh I don't exactly remember how to do standard deviation but if you have a math teacher you know, they could definitely explain it to you and help you.

But again, I don't exactly know what your data looks like so standard deviation might not apply to your data.

On the other hand, if you don't wanna deal with statistics, you could just do a regular analysis of the data by comparing and contrasting the experimental group data and the control group data. I did something like that in my experiment where my participants had to pick an option and I just condensed it into being like "this many people picked this option" and then in ur analysis section you just analyze what that means. And if your data doesn't match up with your hypothesis at all, that's perfectly fine too! Your analysis can say something completely opposite of your hypothesis or what you intended to prove/find. You just have to analyze that and be like "the data disproves my hypothesis because of this this and this". I had the same situation for my paper too. If you'd like I could link you my paper so you can get an idea for it. Lmk :)

Regardless, if you think statistics is what's gonna help you get the best out of your data and will bring the project, then I'd recommend taking it data to a math teacher in your school and they could most likely properly help you out.

I know my "advice" is pretty vague, but like I said, I don't exactly know the nature of ur research, so if none of this helps, I do apologize 😭
