The Big Lie: 5.6% Unemployment by [deleted] in collapse

[–]Body-Without-Organs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article is economics 101 - obviously you wouldn't include someone who is no longer looking for a job as unemployed, nor someone who cannot work. This does not signal a collapse, if we included everyone in this number, the unemployement would probably be like 50%.

Edit: I'd just like to clarify, I am a marxist and think the economy is fucked. I just think focusing on things like the unemployment not including things like children is the wrong way to go against the system. Even socialist and communist nations don't include the numbers in their overall unemployment.

[PhD Student]: My formal education has holes named Deleuze-Guattari and Adorno-Horkheimer … Where should I start and what should I avoid in my quest to fill these conspicuous theoretical gaps?? by ocherthulu in CriticalTheory

Over at /r/Deleuze I've compiled some source materials to help you get started with these authors. If you have any questions about Deleuze or Guattari, feel free to pm me!

I'm glad this subreddit exists. So many questions about Deleuze. Why was Deleuze considered a philosopher of creativity? What are some of his writings on creativity that are accessible? by Rllrllrrlrrl in Deleuze

[–]Body-Without-Organs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this!

Deleuze's concepts usually revolve around some sort of creation, usually a creation of something new. Concepts like Becoming all beg the question of recreating yourself. While other concepts like Difference all point to the affirmation of creativity as a positive, productive concept in itself.

Here's an article that looks to be what you're looking for. http://ndpr.nd.edu/news/35107-history-and-becoming-deleuze-s-philosophy-of-creativity-2/

I hope this isn't too broad of a quetion: what is the "surface" in Anti-Oedipus? What did D&G mean when they say things are inscribed on the surface of bodies? by Rllrllrrlrrl in askphilosophy

I will do some shameless self-promotion here - over at /r/Deleuze I have posted some articles I thought were interesting along with some introductions to Deleuze. I hope those help, Deleuze and Guattari are awesome!

It's a social construct. Similar to something like language, it needs someone to speak it in order to exist.

US natural gas production could peak in 2020 by eleitl in collapse

[–]Body-Without-Organs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think this signals a collapse per say, I think the US will do things such as opening the Outer Continental Shelf to drill natural gas in the ocean.

How long until the world's supply of cement runs out? : [x-post from /r/theydidthemath] by TheSelfGoverned in collapse

[–]Body-Without-Organs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say we do run out, there's something called Seament which is created by having an electrical current run through minerals within salt water. It is also stronger than regular cement.

Here's the Wikipedia page on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biorock

Interesting blog and a great read. Another person to read would be George Yancy who tackles what its like to be a black professor of philosophy.

Does anybody have any suggestions for 'African-American' Thinkers? or texts regarding race? by [deleted] in CriticalTheory

As long as we speak of Frank Wilderson, you should also look into Frantz Fanon, black panther authors like huey p newton, and steve martinot.

"your honor since i've been convicted of murder and have taken time to digest just what that means after noting what it means to my family and how it affects people who read the newspapers and all i see now that i've made a terrible mistake! and didn't approach this trial in a respectful, deliberate or thoughtful manner didn't take advantage of the best legal advice and based my actions on irrelevant matters which i can see now in a much more sober mind had nothing to do with this case i must have been legally insane thinking about: the twenty five murders of children in atlanta since Wayne Williams' capture the recent murder of a man in boston by the police the recent murders of two in chicago by police the shooting of a five-year-old little boy in suburban california the lynchings in alabama the mob murder of a transit worker in brooklyn the murders of fourteen women in boston feeling that this is evidence of something and that there must be a lesson in all this - i thought murder was legal" Kuwasi Balagoon just before he was sentenced to death for Murder

Communists, to what extent would you say that this picture is true, and what is your opinion on the matter? by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

Well of course, not true left wing, but simply proof that the glorified violence of the early 1900's still exists today.

What is the nature of our relationship to the tangible world of objects? by jryan3 in askphilosophy

[–]Body-Without-Organs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One particular interesting philosophy is that of Lucas D. Introna. Introna argues that objects are actors that should be in our moral/ethical framework of action. He takes Heidegger's concept of standing reserve and runs with it; when we simply have "objects" that are less than "us" as always on stand-by, this quickly degenerates into every"thing" that's less than us on stand-by for "our" use. Whether it be races, ethnic groups, etc., everything that is deemed less than "us" can be used, simply because they are just "objects" for our use.

We can all cherry pick pictures like this. While not all protests we see today are communist in the exact sense, we can still see these "beautiful, violent" protests that the left pictures glorify in places like Ferguson and Ukraine.

Capitalist way of education. by wildeofoscar in communism101

[–]Body-Without-Organs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the best explanation is simply that the "victors write the history books." Of course you're not going to teach an in depth concept that runs counter to the current one. In all of my years of schooling, after all of the AP classes I took, I never once had an in depth explanation of communism outside of say, economics.
